38 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2009 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 11/06/2013

I was driving on the highway and suddenly the vehicle lost all speed control. I could not accelerate and the car began slowing down. I had to quickly change lanes and pull over to the shoulder. I put the car in park and turned off the engine, waited a few minutes, and then was able to start the car again. This same thing happened two days later. I have read other complaints about this same issue happening with Mariners between 2009-2011. This needs to be recalled and fixed. It is incredibly dangerous to lose all acceleration control going 65 mph!!.

39 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2010 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 11/01/2013

My wife was driving in town and the car began to "buck" and slow down. After a few minutes the accelerator had no effect on the engine. It appeared to be idling only. She pulled off the road and stopped the car, waited a10 minutes or so, and started it again. There was no difficulty starting the car, but again the accelerator had no effect on the engine speed. We had the car towed to the local dealership where it was diagnosed with a bad throttle body and throttle motor. The repairs cost approximately $500.

40 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2010 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 10/30/2013

Car stalled while my granddaughter was driving on the highway. It also did not accelerate. She had to step on the brakes to get the car to move. She immediately got a diagnosis from auto zone (throttle body system open- p2111), then took the car to the Ford dealership where the problem was confirmed and repaired. An emergency light came on during this problem.

41 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2009 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 10/29/2013

During normal highway driving conditions, car suddenly stopped accelerating, could push the accelerator all the way to the floor and get no power. Engine did not stall out, but would not provide power. Was able to pull over and turn off car, then turn back on, and problem was gone. After another 15 miles or so it happened again. Took the car to the dealership and they reported that it was a bad throttle body and had to be replaced.

42 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2009 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 10/22/2013

Car lost power and stopped while driving. Engine light came on then went off.

43 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2010 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 10/18/2013

The vehicle started to stall when the accelerator peddle was engaged, after turning vehicle off and restarting it would travel approximately 50 to 100ft. Before again stalling.

44 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2010 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 10/10/2013

I was driving on a very busy avenue at about 5:45pm and my vehicle stopped accelerating. The wrench light appeared on my dashboard and my vehicle was basically putt-putting down the road at a very slow speed. Due to the fact that my vehicle stopped accelerating, I was almost in a very bad accident. I was able to pull over to a parking space about a 1/4 of a mile and shut off my car vehicle. I called my local repair shop and told them to expect me. I had plans of having the car towed. After about 5 minutes of having my vehicle off, I tried to start it and it was running normally. My repair shop test drove the vehicle and the next day and didn't find anything wrong. They also didn't find any codes appearing in the vehicles memory. They did find an article online about the same thing happening to the same type vehicles. I called my Ford dealership and they said there were no recalls and were going to check if there were any bulletins. I am waiting a phone call back.

45 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2009 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 10/07/2013

While driving on the taconic state parkway, traveling at approx. 55 mph, the engine failed to respond to the throttle and while the car was still in gear, the vehicle merely began coasting. I safely steered the car to the shoulder of the road, and turned the vehicle off. After approximately 2 minutes, I was able to re-start the car (with some hesitation). I then turned around to attempt to drive home. The same situation occurred one more time while traveling home (approx. 30 miles). I brought the car to metric motors of lake carmel, NY. Their computer diagnostics identified the problem as the throttle actuator control. They said that they unstuck the part (cost to diagnose & make repairs $422+) and I again began driving the car. Unfortunately, after visiting nyc on Saturday, October 19, 2013, the same problem occurred, again while driving home on the taconic state parkway. I was able to start the car; however, the problem re-occurred approximately 10 more times over the 40 mile return trip to my home. Each time the engine failed to respond to the throttle and while stile in gear, merely began coasting. Each time, I safely steered the car to the shoulder, and eventually re-started the car and managed to make it home.

46 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2010 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 10/07/2013

When driving at a slow speed of 20-25 mph, the vehicle stopped accelerating and bucked a little. The wrench (powertrain) signal light up on the dash, so I proceeded to pull over, put the car in park, and shut it off. After a few minutes I turned it on again and all seemed fine, though the car was now slow moving and less smooth through shifting. The same thing occurred 9 days later, with the vehicle responding even more slowly afterwards.

47 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2010 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 10/01/2013

I have been having a problem with my 2010 Mercury Mariner for over a month. It is stalling out at random times and then the vehicle dies. Took to dealership several times and the computer is not detecting the problem so they cant determine what to fix. The dealership says it may me the throttle body, but this is not covered in my extended warranty and is a very expensive part to replace. I am a single mother with 2 kids and this is very dangerous when we are driving down the highway at 75 mph with traffic.

48 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2010 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 09/25/2013

Driving at 50 miles per hour the SUV lost all power and had to pull to the side of the road. Turned off vehicle and then restarted and ran fine. Three days later it happened again. Took it to the dealer and they told me it was the throttle body on the motor was bad. They said it wasn't covered under my drive train warranty and charged me 300. 00 dollars. The SUV only has 17,000 miles on it. . I read there is 27,000 complaints about this problem. Why is there not a recall on these vehicles? some one is going to get hurt or killed because of this problem.

49 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2005 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 09/24/2013

Car accelerated as I tried to stop. Then when I tried to go, I pressed the gas and it would not go but the rpm's went really high. Then the car died and I had to wait a few minutes to turn it back on. 2nd incident- I was driving on a busy road during rush hour and tried to stop at a stop light but the car accelerated so I had to keep breaking but the car would not stop accelerating so I turned the car off. When I tried to turn the car back on, nothing worked (had no power at all therefor I could not turn on my hazards to signal to people that my car was stalled). I waited then tried to turn it on again and it turned on but was still accelerating only I was in park so it did not go anywhere. I turned the engine off but did not turn the car off so I could turn hazards on. I waited several minutes then tried again and was able to pull off the road.

53 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2010 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 09/03/2013

Driving to work at steady speed when all of a sudden the car lost acceleration. While I was able to steer to the side of the road, had I been in the middle of a turn or an entry on the highway, it could have resulted in an accident. Pulled over to side of the road. Turned off vehicle and restarted. Drove about 1/3 mile and it did it again. This time when I put the car in park and kept it running it felt like it was trying to jump out of gear and accelerate which was very scary. We determined by calling internet it was the throttle body. Called three Ford dealerships where they were all sold out and back-ordered. We found one at the fourth and put it on ourself in 30 minutes. Cost $180 p/n ds7z9e926d. Ford needs to do the right thing and recall the affected vehicles as they know it's a problem. They have multiple cars getting this problem fixed daily!!!!!!!.

54 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2010 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 08/24/2013

I was driving my car merging on to the expressway in a construction zone and as soon as I got on the car completely lost power. I could not push on the gas or anything. Luckily there was an opening in some cones for me to barely have enough power to get out on one lane of traffic in a construction zone in morning rushing hour traffic. I had to turn my car off and luckily it came back on. I have read online that this has been happening to so many people that the part is on national back order. This is crazy! I had my 1 year old daughter in the car and we could have been hit. This is completely unsafe!.

55 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2010 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 08/18/2013

I was leaving a soccer game and the car went to about 40 mps and the wrench light came on and the pedal went limp. I pulled over and stopped the car and the car started shaking like it was out of time. I put it in part and shut off the car when I turned the car back on the light was off. I was able to drive 20 miles back and forth and then it did the same thing again. I have taken it to run the codes and there were none. Today 8/31/13 it did the same thing again and now finally the engine light came on. Codes were ran at autozone and p1212 throttle body sensor finally showed up. I had already checked the web the first time that it did it after talking with a mechanic that works at Ford and he told me what it was and that there was no recall. I am very upset. I just purchased this car less than three months ago!!! single mom someone help!!!.

56 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2010 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 08/14/2013

Suddenly lost all power. Car did not stall but had no throttle. There was no shoulder on busy route 46 in new jersey. I was fortunate to be able to coast into a wendy's parking lot to avoid a collision from the rear. Emergency repair was performed by a local mechanic. Identified fault code as p2112. Car restarted and I was forced by personal circumstance to drive the car home despite the incident. Very scary since I traveled on NJ turnpike by newark airport. . . Elevated highway, 3 lanes, no shoulder, 65mph, 18 wheelers. If car had stalled there, I would have been killed!!!! I want my government to take action to force Ford to do the right thing and force a safety recall for the throttle body assembly. .

57 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2011 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 08/13/2013

While driving down the highway, in my 2011 Mariner it suddenly lost the power to accelerate (engine still running). The wrench light illuminated at this time. Pressing on the accelerator did nothing. Fortunately there was nothing behind me so I coasted about 1/4 mile to the next turn off and coasted off the highway. Then I turned the vehicle off, waited a few minutes and restarted it. I drove about 20 miles home with no other occurrence. The next day (August 14, 2013) I drove about 20 miles to work with no problems. That afternoon I left work and drove about 2 miles at 25 mph and it lost all acceleration power again (motor still running). I turned it off and restarted it. I drove another 2 miles at 25 mph and it lost acceleration power again, but this time both the wrench light and the check engine light came on (engine still running). I then drove directly to my Ford/Mercury dealer (about 1 mile) and told him the situation. It is currently in their shop and I haven't heard back from them yet. They gave me a loaner vehicle to drive while they check out my Mariner. -- extremely scary situation! if this happens to me on an interstate in a center lane with heavy traffic will be life threatening. I don't want to be afraid driving my vehicle and think a recall should be done ASAP!! today I have read other similar situations people have experienced with Mariners and escapes. Please check into this ASAP before there is a tragedy if there hasn't already been one gone unreported!!! thank you!!.

59 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2009 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 08/08/2013

Driving along and unexpectedly engine goes in limp mode with no warning and no acceleration- extremely dangerous as was driving on expressway when this occurred.

60 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2011 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 07/25/2013

As I was driving my 2011 Mercury Mariner it suddenly lost the power to accelerate (engine still running). The wrench light illuminates at this time. I could not do anything to increase speed (pressing on the accelerator did nothing). The only fix is to shut down the engine and re-start. The mileage is 69,xxx. This first occurrence happened on 7/25/2013, however, the same symptoms have occurred randomly several times since that time. I explained the symptoms to my local Ford dealer service department and indications are a defective throttle body.

61 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2006 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 07/21/2013

While building speed via an on-ramp on CA freeway 680, the transmission began to fail. Within roughly 200 yards, the car lost power and, thankfully, I was able to get my car to the side of the freeway. The first time I was able to get the car to work again, I was only able to drive about 50 yards. I then let the car 'rest' for about 20-30 minutes (while I contact my roadside assistance company). After that amount of time, I tried the car again and was able to drive to the next off-ramp (industrial way, benicia, CA). At the stop sign of that off-ramp, the car failed again and I chose to have it towed instead of continue trying to make it work properally. My Mariner is a 2006 with only 77,541 miles! my car eventually got to a transmission shop to be fixed, but it was in my research of the problem that I found failing/faulty transmissions to be a very common and known issue for Mariners with low mileage (model years of 2005-2011, at least). My complaint is that there should be a recall issued because this is a well known problem.

62 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2011 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 07/17/2013

The contact owns a 2011 Mercury Mariner. The contact stated that while exiting the highway ramp at approximately 30 mph, the vehicle lost acceleration then the mil and check engine warning lights illuminated. The contact performed a diagnostic which located the failure at the throttle. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure and current mileage was 41,926.

63 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2010 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 07/11/2013

Car went into 'limp mode" at about 25 mph and the orange wrench warning light came on. Had to stop, turned off the engine and then restarted. Warning light went off but it occurred again in about 5 miles. Went to Ford dealer the next day and they could not find anything wrong nor duplicate the problem. Problem happened again a couple of miles after leaving the dealership. I immediately returned to the dealer and they once again couldn't find anything wrong. Two days later on I-95 the car went into "limp mode" the orange light came on and I drove to the side. The traffic was backed up so I was going about 25 mph when this occurred. When I restarted the engine this time, the "wrench" warning light went off but the "check the engine" light came on and remained on. Next day returned to the dealer and this time they said they found the problem and it was the throttle body. In researching on line I found that this is occurring with some frequency and would certainly like to see Ford take responsibility for issuing a defective part. As of now it looks like I will have to pay the bill and hope that the new part is not defective also. It is a real safety issue and hopefully this will be resolved.

65 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2010 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 06/30/2013

As I was driving about 40 mph my Mariner jerked then lost acceleration. I was able to pull off the roadway safely into a parking lot. After shutting the vehicle off and restarting it I was able to drive a few feet before it happened again. Again shut engine off and restarted. A few days later it happened again and I took it to the dealer who said it was the throttle body and it is on national back order but it is safe to continue driving to vehicle!! as I was driving home a few nights ago this happened again 4 times within 1 mile. Needless to say I will not be driving my vehicle until this is repaired. (and who know how long that will be!). Please recall this part before someone gets seriously hurt or killed!.

66 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2010 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 06/22/2013

I was driving down a busy highway when my car jerked and then stalled. The accelerator would not work. I was able to pull over and turn the car off. The car restarted and accelerated normally. This occurred three more times. I took the car to the dealership and they said the part was on national backorder and sent me home (in the unsafe car). I now am waiting to hear about when they can get the part.

67 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2010 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 06/21/2013

I was driving along at 45 mph and the vehicle lost all engine power, but did not die. I stopped the vehicle and shut off the engine. I resterted the vehicle and it started fine. I drove two miles and engine lost power again. This time the check engine light came on. I shut the vehicle off and resterted. Check engine light was still on, but I was able to drive one mile to a friends house. I let it sit for 4 hours and drove 1/10 of a mile and engine lost power again. My friend gave me a ride home as I was 12 miles from home. I called a towing service and had vehicle towed to local garage. Computer code registered a p2111. I contacted local Ford dealership and they recommended a throttle body cleaning because vehicle was out of warranty by 6,000 miles. Had service performed on 6/24. On 6/29 the engine stalled again.

68 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2010 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 06/21/2013

I was driving at about 25 mph when the car suddenly lurched forward, then began rapidly decelerating. I had to get off the road and coast to a stop. I turned the car off then restarted it and everything seemed fine, but the problem happened again later that day and several more times in the coming weeks. It has happened at various speeds and under diverse conditions. It is intermittent and unpredictable. After nearly causing an accident on the interstate due to this occurrence I am now limited to surface streets and only when I have no other option but to drive my car. After doing some reading it seems that this is a known defect with the throttle body and I worry that even if I pay out of pocket to have it repaired I will only be buying another part with the same defect. My hope is that Ford will issue a recall of the vehicles for which this is a known issue!.

69 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2010 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 06/15/2013

The contact owns a 2010 Mercury Mariner. The contact stated while driving various speeds the accelerator pedal was engaged without any response. The vehicle was maneuvered to the side of the road where the engine was turned off. Upon restarting the vehicle, it resumed normally. The failure recurred at least four to five times a day. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the throttle body was replaced. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 72,000.

70 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2010 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 06/15/2013

Was driving on interstate highway and accelerator speed dropped to a crawl. Pulled over and saw the wrench symbol. Got the manual out and it said throttle body/powertrain issue. Waited and restarted only 2 miles down the road again and that same thing happened. Car was still running but just going abt 2 mph if that. Very dangerous situation!.
