1 Brake Light On problem

Failure Date: 01/23/2021

I don't have brakes and the abs and brake light is on.

2 Brake Light On problem

Failure Date: 10/10/2020

The brake light, abs light, and electric stabilizer lights came on, which resulted in the loss of full braking. I took the car to my mechanic; he discovered that the abs pump was leaking. I purchased a used abs pump, and after installing it, the mechanic had no success resetting the codes. He told me it could be that the part is a used one, so I ordered a new abs pump from parts maven Ford. After installing the new part, the mechanic had the same issues with it as well. The mechanic is not able to clear or reset all codes for the electric stabilizer, abs, and brake lights and adequately calibrate the brakes. It left the brake very soft on the pedal, and it required pressing the brake hard to the floor to bring the car to a full stop. What's worst, when moving from the park, the car would roll forward or backward and is not stopping the vehicle as it ought to do. It takes longer to stop, and it requires pressing hard on the brake and longer distance to come to a full stop. Upon further research, the mechanic found out that Ford knew about the problem and had issued a recall for owners who were experiencing the same problem mentioned above to have their vehicles fix for free at a Ford repair shop. I contacted Ford on 10/12/20 only to be told by the Ford repair shop and on an online chat with a Ford rep that my car, while it's one of the vehicles listed in the recall, is not applicable due to my VIN#. It is very troublesome because Ford only limited the recall to some 2010 Mercury Milan hybrid and not to mine. It's a safety issue that they admitted to knowing about and is the only one who can fix it, yet they refuse to include my car. Since I have been without the use of my car for over one month, I have no choice but to take it to a Ford repair shop and get it to fix at my own expense and will follow-up with a lawsuit against Ford to get my money reimbursed.

3 Brake Light On problem

Failure Date: 12/13/2017

I was driving straight at a steady 30 mph and hit the brakes on light ice when approaching a red light. The antilock brakes activated for about one-half second, and then the brake pedal went all the way to the floor, with only the most minimal braking occurring in the very last inch of pedal travel. The car came to a stop in the middle of the intersection. Fortunately, there was no cross traffic entering the intersection at the time and there were no injuries. I took the car to the Lincoln dealer who said the abs module had failed, as had the master cylinder. At no point during the event, or afterward, did any brake light come on and no warning message displayed on the dashboard textual display, despite the car having virtually no brakes. The car was in the dealer repair shop for five days and I was charged $1,686. 66. At no point prior to the failure did the brakes exhibit any issues what-so-ever. It was a sudden and full brake system failure with absolutely no prior warning and no dashboard indicators of brake failure afterward.

4 Brake Light On problem

Failure Date: 04/27/2016

Took car in to Ford dealer for servicing per recall 15s34 on 4/27/16. Dealer notified me that brake lights are; ". . . . Stuck on when parking lights or headlights are on -- they work if headlights are off . . . . ". (see noughton Ford aurora, CO invoice # focs418452). This is a hazard!!!!!.

5 Brake Light On problem

Failure Date: 06/29/2015

June 2015: made a 'hard stop' to get out of path of emergency vehicle. Made 2 turns (slowing car down) and safely made turns without incident. Third turn (right turn), released gas pedal, stepped on brakes, brake pedal went low (towards floor), car eventually stopped, approximately 15ft, further than expected. This happened within 10 minutes from initial 'hard stop'. Checked brake fluid level, noticed fluid level above minimum line, but also noted fluid color had some color (aware that color in brake fluid is not good). Made appointment for service at dealership authorized service center . Service center indicated brake lining problem (not within tolerance), and replaced them. Note: city driving, dry day, light morning traffic. No brake warning light or abs warning light illumination on dash board. July 2015: exiting one highway to get onto another highway, needed to brake to get onto exit ramp. Took foot off gas pedal, signaled to turn right, stepped on brake to slow down and exit. Brake pedal went low (towards floor), car took more time to slow down than anticipated. Made way to destination (at reduced speed) and depressed brake pedal to identify if/how car could stop. Called service center, explained what occurred and brought car back to service center. Service center identified master cylinder needed replacing and it was replaced. Note: highway driving, dry day, midday traffic-light. No brake warning light or abs warning light illumination on dash board. August 2015: local driving, on highway, exiting to the right, took foot off gas pedal, then started to depress brake pedal. Car started to slow down then felt rapid thumping underfoot while depressing brake pedal, brake pedal went low (towards floor). Car eventually stopped. Check brake fluid level (at max line) and fluid color clear. Car towed to dealership service center. It is still there.

6 Brake Light On problem

Failure Date: 05/24/2015

Driver rear brake light stays on when lights are on. People stop me and say the brake light is too bright when they are following me. They tell me this is a safety hazard because they have to look at it and they get annoyed.

7 Brake Light On problem

Failure Date: 10/20/2014

Driver side rear brake light staying illuminated constantly as if the brake is pressed and nearly caused crash (I had two small children sitting in the back of my Milan), had the vehicle behind me not went into the ditch a collision would have been inevitable. Please look into this problem as it has the potential to cause bodily harm and injury to the occupants. I had no idea there was a problem with constant illumination until this point. Upon scheduling an appointment at the Ford dealership and doing a little research I see this is a frequently reported problem but no recall has yet been issued nor an investigation. Also since learning of this problem this morning and observing the vehicle brake lights there is also a flicker of lights every so often.

8 Brake Light On problem

Failure Date: 10/12/2014

Rear left brake light is malfunctioning -- local shop said it is not the bulb, rather the whole rear (left) light assembly and the sensor attached to the brake pedal. This car only has 18,000 miles on it -- this should not be failing at this point -- cost to repair is approx. $1000 (for parts, labor) -- others also believe this to be a manufacturer defect -- a 'recall' should be done -- the brakes are a safety issue -- if the driver behind you doesn't see the brake lights come on, the Milan can get read-ended.

9 Brake Light On problem

Failure Date: 08/05/2014

The passenger side led brake light assembly is constantly illuminated as if the brakes are applied but they are not. Makes a safety hazard as it is distracting to drivers that are following and they may misjudge my braking. This is the second assembly that I have had go faulty. The first was the day I bought it but the dealer replaced the $400 part for free.

10 Brake Light On problem

Failure Date: 06/04/2014

Led brake light flickers on and off.

11 Brake Light On problem

Failure Date: 03/16/2014

One month after my NHTSA complaint # 10563879, the left side tail/brake light system is now responding in the same manner. Brake lights function normally during the day without the tail lights on, but when tail lights are activated, they shine at full 100% intensity, as if the brakes were applied. Brake application is now only shown by the small third center light. Whenever I see a Milan in my city at night, which is the only time it will be evident, I try to follow it to see if it has this issue also. I'll find that usually 1 or both of this vehicles lights do this, and the owners do not realize it. I feel this is a widespread safety issue, compounded by the owner being unaware of a problem. No dash warning is shown. And yes, Ford wants $400 for this lamp. Replacing it is the only fix.

12 Brake Light On problem

Failure Date: 02/10/2014

My son was almost rear ended on the freeway, which prompted my inspection of our 2010 Mercury Milan. I found the brake lights work as they should in daylight. When the headlights come on though, the right rear tail light shows the brake lights intensity 100% of the time, and is unaffected by brake pedal application. Left rear brake/tail light, and upper 3rd brake light operate normally. I consider this a major safety concern, especially after researching this led light system. This vehicle shows repeated widespread incidents, exactly as I describe. Some people report both lights malfunctioning. My concern is that it takes a third party to tell you that your tail/brake lights are not operating correctly, so most owners wont know they have a problem. This could be more common to this vehicle than it already appears to be. I only personally know one other person with the same vehicle and they have the same problem ! issue is not currently acknowledged by Ford, probably because it is a $400 lamp that must be replaced in its entirety.

13 Brake Light On problem

Failure Date: 12/24/2013

When the lights are on (at night), the rear lights are continuously at their highest brightness, as if the brakes were pressed down. So, it appears that the brakes are on continuously. The only difference when the brake pedal is pressed down is that the central light high up on the trunk turns on. This is only an issue at night- during the day the brake lights function normally. Based on internet forums at edmunds and consumer reports, among others, I have found at least 10 other instances of this exact same problem with 2010 Mercury Milans, most with low mileage: e. G. . 14 Brake Light On problem

Failure Date: 11/06/2013

The initial incident in November, 2013 was the failure of the passenger side rear led tail light assembly. This resulted in the brake lights not operating when the brakes were depressed. A police officer stopped the car for a warning due to the brake light failure. Mileage on the car at the time was 12,700 miles. Due to the safety hazard the repair was needed. The entire assembly, not just a single bulb needed to be replaced. Approximately 10 months later in September, 2014 the driver side rear led tail light is now malfunctioning in the same way. Brake lights are again flickering and not working when the brakes are depressed. Mileage on the car at the time of this next failure was 16,100 miles. The dealer quoted price to repair is over $450! this car is garage kept, well maintained and has not been in involved in any accidents. Ford should fix this defect under a safety recall free of charge to customers!.

15 Brake Light On problem

Failure Date: 05/15/2013

Brake lights will not operate when head lights are on. This problem could have been defective when car was purchased. My dad is 86 years old and bought the car new as dealer demo in 02/ 2013. Hes was notified that his brakes were not working and when he returned the vehicle Ford would not honor the problem, I have investigated this problem on the internet and there are numerous complaints with this year model. My dad could have been seriously hurt if not notified bye a person following him. This cost him approxomitly 1000. 00 dollars to fix I feel Ford should recall these do to this problem.

16 Brake Light On problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2013

I have a 2010 Mercury Milan with 40,000 miles on it. Recently someone pointed out to me that the driver-side brake light is continuously activated. Consequently when braking, drivers behind me are only notified by the right and center brake lights. It seems to only happen when the headlights are on. My research shows this to be a common issue with the 2010 Mercury Milan with some having both brake lights malfunctioning. Diagnosis says it is a faulty led brake light assembly, which would imply a bad circuit board. This is a serious safety hazard and should be recalled. I contacted Ford about it and they directed me to a dealer saying they, (Ford) would probably pay for the repair. After I contacted the dealer, Ford changed their mind and said that since I didn't¿¿t buy the car new, they didn't¿¿t consider me a "¿¿loyal¿" Ford customer and will not cover any of the cost. It seems Ford is only concerned about the safety of their "¿¿loyal¿" customers.

17 Brake Light On problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2012

The date of the occurrence is unknown. The car currently has 24,000 miles on it. The left tail light does not work and the left brake light does not work. The right brake light works when the headlights are off (as in daylight) but does not work when the headlights are on (as at night). The right tail light works when the headlight switch is on but is very bright, indicating that the brake light is on, even though the brake pedal is not depressed. Obviously, there is a defect in the circuitry. All of the long-life led bulbs couldn't have failed at once. The dealer wants to charge us $550 per light unit to supposedly correct the problem. This is a serious design defect safety issue and should result in a recall.

18 Brake Light On problem

Failure Date: 07/10/2012

Right rear brake light activates and stays on while running/headlights are turned on. I have also seen this while driving behind similar Milans. Some with both sides activated leaving only the center light to indicate actual braking.

19 Brake Light On problem

Failure Date: 04/10/2012

Driver side rear brake light is fully illuminated at all times when the headlights are on. This is a safety issue and replacement of the driver side taillight is $400+.

20 Brake Light On problem

Failure Date: 02/03/2012

Right rear brake light stays engaged constant, 100% luminous when headlights are on. Dealer replaced complete tail lamp assembly January 1, serviced February 2012 under warranty. Milage 32141. Now a second time same problem with same right lamp. Not sure how long it has been that way. I was notified by family member when they were following me home one evening. 70000 miles. These led lamps are expensive, seems as if lighting has faulty parts assembly malfunction instead of a routine light replacement. Multiple complaints listed here for same issue. Is there a recall? I have not received anything for a recall. Now has become a safety concern.
