When braking to slow down or get to a stop the brake pedal pressed down but the car didn't seem to stop as quick as it should have. A while later, when having to brake quickly, the car hit another vehicle infront of it. The accident took place on a city road. No police report was filed because the other car's bumper had minor damage unlike my car which the front & hood of has substantial damage. The repair estimate for me was about 4k dollars which is higher than I can afford.

14 Body problem of the 2007 Mercury Milan

Failure Date: 01/03/2017

I was driving forward at about 15 mph on a snow covered road (residential city street). I came upon an uncontrolled intersection when I noticed a car coming from my right side, I then attempted to slow down and stop. While trying to slow down my brake pedal lost all pressure and went to the floor, causing an inability to slow down properly. Resulting in my car hitting the rear driver side of the other car in the middle of the intersection. My brake pedal has lost pressure 3 times previously all in the same winter conditions (snow and icy road) and while trying to slow down. I took my car to 2 different mechanics, with no issues found with the brake system. 1 of the previous times I had to use my emergency brake for the car to stop completely the other 2 times took an extended amount of time for the car to stop. When my brake pedal loses pressure I immediately park my car, the pressure on the brake pedal with go back to normal after letting the car sit for at least 5 hours if not longer.

15 Body problem of the 2006 Mercury Milan

Failure Date: 10/01/2016

"door handles" - arrived at work and when I pulled on driver's side door handle to exit car, there was a loud click sound and handle wouldn't work. . Felt loose. I had to turn the car back on, roll the window down, stick my hand out the window to pull on the exterior door handle to open the door. It's been like this since October and difficult to deal with in this brutal wisconsin winter. Ford should pay for repair since the many reports about this situation makes it a defect on Ford cars, which is also a glaring safety issue if it hampers exiting vehicle in an emergency. I am a senior citizen on limited income and can't afford to pay for repairing these defects. This is an every day occurrence. Please help.

16 Body problem of the 2006 Mercury Milan

Failure Date: 07/20/2016

"takata recall" - received recall notice dated July 2016. . . But it stated that a 2nd notice/letter will be sent when parts become available and then can contact a dealer for repair. . . Meanwhile, now whenever I turn the car on, the airbag light comes on that I have to turn the ignition off and on again, hoping the airbag light doesn't show. . . And the fear that this airbag will explode and can actually kill you is so stressful. . Please please expedite these airbag replacement/repairs so they can be done sooner. It is now January 2017 and this is a daily occurrence.

17 Body problem of the 2010 Mercury Milan

Failure Date: 06/28/2016

My driver door inside handle is inoperative. I have to open door from outside handle. This means either someone has to open door for me from outside, or I roll down my windows to pull on the handle. The lock / unlock electronic button works, as well as the manual lock/unlock handle on the driver's door. However, this only allows locking latch (on the side of the door, see picture) to be able to release. So what happens if I am in an accident and the window is broken or I am in a panic to get out? I can't get out of the car by myself. Furthermore, I have to hit the unlock button for the outside door to be able to unlatch the lock (someone is trying to get me out, and I am dazed and can't open myself, nor understand to hit unlock to allow rescuer to help). I wanted to bring to the dealer I purchased the car from for evaluation. I was informed since my 2010 Mercury Milan has 80,600 miles, it is out of warranty, and since there is no safety recall on file, I must pay $100 technician inspection fee. Then there would be the charge for fixing it.

18 Body problem of the 2007 Mercury Milan

Failure Date: 06/01/2016

Takata recall there has been no update in the last year since the recall was announced, regarding replacing the passenger airbag in my 2007 Mercury Milan. The stitching (or whatever material is used) has started to disintegrate on the passenger side dashboard, where the airbag is housed. I've been hoping the recall would have been completed before now, so I wouldn't have to have the car taken in twice to be fixed: once for the deteriorating dashboard around the passenger airbag, and a second time to have the airbag replaced when the parts for the recall become available. I'm very concerned to keep driving the car, and also for the resale value, if I wanted to sell the car due to this issue still not being resolved.

19 Body problem of the 2007 Mercury Milan

Failure Date: 02/18/2016

Arrived at destination parking lot and driver door handle seemed to snap and unable to open the driver door. Crawled over the center consul to exit the passenger side. Locked car and when I returned I entered the passenger side and crawled over the consul to the driver seat. Once I got home I repeated the same exit process and went around to open the driver door and once opened it did not close. Had to bungie cord the door shut in the garage to turn off the courtesy lights and silence door ajar alarm. Next morning immediately took it to dealer. Drove carefully holding the door closed while I drove. Door ajar alarm and light kept appearing. Repair cost $167. 96. 10 days later the driver door failed again when I arrived home from work. This time I lowered the window and reached outside for the door handle and that worked to open the door and it seemed to close okay but next morning I returned to dealer and was then told it was a different issue and cost $335. 45. I am concerned that this was related to the other issues I see about the door latch failing since 2010 on your site and other blogs and the recent recall and now extended recall. I am also concerned that the parts used for the repair may be compromised as well. This is too scary if it would happen to someone who couldn't get out of the car or have the door fly open or even try to drive holding onto the door to keep it shut.

25 Body problem of the 2010 Mercury Milan

Failure Date: 03/10/2013

I had just dropped my wife off at the door of the high school and went to park the car. As I was pulling into the parking space, I put my foot on the brake. Instead of slowing down to park, the car accelerated as if I had my foot to the floor on the accelerator. It happened so fast. I hit a concrete post. The car was still accelerating after I hit the post until I took my foot off of the brake. I then put my foot back on the brake and shifted the car into reverse. It worked like it should have. Nobody was hurt. The car had almost $3000 worth of damage. This isn't the first time this has happened to us. This is the first time the car was damaged. The other times the car accelerated like this, we thought we were doing something wrong. So we didn't turn it in. We have been driving for at least 25 years and never have had this happen to us before. We figured that we couldn't possibly have our foot touching the brake lightly and have the accelerator to the floor. Somebody could have been killed or hurt seriously. The car isn't safe to drive. The Ford garage is stating that they couldn't find anything wrong. I contacted Ford motor company and they said they were concerned about our safety. They aren't willing to do anything.

29 Body problem of the 2006 Mercury Milan

Failure Date: 10/08/2012

My driver's side inside door handle broke. I was trying to get out of the car after parking it but couldn't. I had to roll down the window and open the door using the outside door handle. This is a real safety problem and since this isn't an isolated event, (notice the number of complaints and the number of multiple repairs/replacements) Ford should replace them or upgrade them to something more reliable. At some point someone will be injured or worse because they weren't able to exit their car quickly.

30 Body problem of the 2006 Mercury Milan

Failure Date: 07/23/2012

I have a 2006 Mercury Milan and I have had to replace the driver's door handle twice. Once was under warranty due to the "chrome" peeling off. The second time it was replaced the door handle broke and I ended up paying $54 for a new plastic handle. I have also had the passenger side door handle to break in the same spot and had to replace it and that cost me $35 at the time due to me working for a local Ford company. I strongly feel that this is a safety hazard because if the vehicle caught on fire or you had an accident and the handle happens to break at the same time you would have to roll the window down to open the handle from the outside or crawl to the passenger side to get out. Anyone of larger size would have trouble crawling to the passenger side to get out of the vehicle. I also feel that Ford should have to recall these handles and put something with higher quality in that will not break. I personally foresee this being a lawsuit waiting to happen.

31 Body problem of the 2008 Mercury Milan

Failure Date: 07/13/2012

The interior door handles snap in half easily and cause the door to not lock automatically. When the first door handle broke (front, driver side) it took me about a minute to figure out what had happened and how to get out of my car. If it would have happened in an emergency situation it could have been a major problem. After the second handle broke (front, passenger side) I discovered that pulling back on the lock mechanism will open the door. The dealership told me to keep my receipts because this, according to them, is a chronic problem with the Milan and the Ford fusion. Thankfully, I was just getting out of my car to go to work, but had I been involved in an accident I could have potentially died because of the faulty door handle.
