While driving on a straight flat highway at 55 mph the throttle suddenly revved up and remained revved up as I removed foot from gas pedal visually checked that it was in drive and that the cruise control wasn't on, and it was in drive and cruise was t turned on. I tapped the gas pedal, then tapped 3 quick times, tapped the brake pedal and about 2-3 seconds after I tapped the brake pedal it quit revving up and it went back to normal, decelerated because I didn't have my foot on either pedal. I continued to drive it and haven't had any other problems.

Was driving down the highway at 75 mph with cruise control set. The wrench light and traction control light came on , cruise control turned off and lost power and speed. I had to pull off into the ditch to avoid an accident and drive down the shoulder to a rest stop. I turned off the car and let it sit for for 5 minutes and the turned it back on and it ran fine. After reading other issues like mine I'm thinking it may be the throttle body or traction control sensors.

I was driving with the cruise control set at 60mph and the car popped and lost speed and the car would barely stay running. I pulled off the road ( during rush hour) and shut the car off. I re-started the car and it ran correctly.
The first incident occurred while traveling on a highway going almost 60 mph when the cruise control stopped and the car slowed and when you pushed the gas petal it did nothing. We slowed and tried to pull to the side of the road, as the car was almost to a stop it started jerking and sputtering almost dying. We put it in park and turned the engine off. We turned the engine back on and it started just fine then this same thing continued to happen every few miles. Check engine light was on so we took it in to have a computer hooked up to see what was wrong but the check engine light had turned off so they were unsure. The problem seemed to just go away for about a week and then it happened again and we got it in and hooked up to a computer and got the codes which we were informed meant we needed the throttle body replaced and it was a common problem with these cars and to contact a Ford dealer. Since this last incident it has happened multiple times causing us to not be able to drive the car even a few blocks without it happening 3-4 times. We are now without a vehicle as it is not only unsafe to drive but very inconvenient to have to stop and go a million times to make a short drive. This is ridiculous and from all I have researched it a huge problem for many owners of these and similar cars! this is dangerous and should be recalled and those with issues should not be responsible for making these repairs!.
While at highway speed using cruise control on a slight upgrade, engine suddenly lost power and returned to idle and wrench warning light illuminated. After stopping, it was noted that engine was still running at idle but there was no throttle control. After ignition was shut off for a few minutes, vehicle was restarted and throttle contral was found to be normal. Dealer diagnosed likely problem as throttle body, which would be covered under drivetrain warranty but Ford subsequently advised it was not covered. Further, owner was advised part was on indefinite nation-wide back-order with no known availabilty date but that vehicle was driveable in the meantime with the risk that problem could recur with increasing frequency.
Driving at highway speed limit with cruise on there was a loss of cruise control, no throttle response and the "wrench" light came on. I was able to pull off the highway. Engine was running roughly, turned it off immediately. No cell phone service in the area so I could not get a tow truck. Restarted the car. Operated fine to get home 10 miles. Was taking it to the nearest dealer 30 miles from home when the same thing happened. I'm glad I did not have my children with me during these incidents. After viewing internet videos and reading on many internet sights this seems to be a problem with many Mercury Milans. Ford needs to recall and fix the problem that causes this.
