I bought this car used as I am 72 and can't afford a new one. I just found out the tail light is out and called the dealer and they said it would cost $1200. 00 to repair. Is Ford joking with this kind of light. I guess I'll just take tickets when I'm stopped.

Rear brake lights stay on when headlights are on. Rear tail light assembly must be replaced. Very common problem apparently.
This is the 2nd $400 rear tail light I've put on this car. It has led lamps and the whole light has to be replaced. Works fine without headlamps on and not when they are off. This can result in getting rear ended!!!!! Ford should step up and recall this. Hundreds of complaints on internet. And a 9. 5 out of 10 on NHTSA. Replacing a $2 bulb with a $400 led is dumb.
My 2010 Mercury Milan premier is having the same lighting problems that I have been reading about. The tail light led's are going out one by one. My son the police officer just pointed this out to me. He noticed this after following me home the other night. I am reading that this is an expensive repair. It is the left tail light now, but I guess the right will eventually go too. I also had to have both of the front head lights repaired. My local mechanic was able to do this for me at a fairly reasonable cost. After I had to have the expensive lamp bulbs replaced several times. A recall on the rear lights would be greatly appreciated.
Tl-the contact owns a 2010 Mercury Milan. The contact stated that the rear led tail light remained illuminated while the brakes were not depressed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 65,000. Tw.
Tail light recall. Led lights have a short and left tail light remain illuminated as if applying the brake.
All 4 led tail light units failed. 1 each left and right body. 1 each left & right trunk lid.
The driver side outer tail light is partially out. The outer 2 segments still light up, but the inner 5 are out. If you tap the light it flicks on for a second on then goes out again. The lights do not illuminate when the brake is pressed either.
I have a 2010 Mercury Milan. The Milan is equipped with led tail and brake lights, unlike it's sibling, the Ford fusion. Recently, I discovered after being pulled over by the police that the the brake lights were not operating. I went to the dealer's service department, only to discover that the tail light/brake light/turn signal assembly is one sealed, unserviceable unit. There was no warning and leds do not burn out this quickly. To add insult to injury, Ford will not cover this under their premuimcare esp warranty, because they consider it a consumable object like tires. So on top of almost getting killed by being rear-ended in a collision, I got the privilege of paying $1000. 00 to replace both sealed assemblies. This is a common failure in these vehicles and a hazard on the road which occurs without warning. Please recall these vehicles and make Ford fix this dangerous issue. Thank you,.
Someone noticed my rear passenger tail light on my 2010 Mercury Milan was abnormally bright and that brake light did not work. So I investigate and find that I have to replace the whole assembly instead of just a bulb. Omg. I have been a loyal Ford owner since 1985. The cost to replace is over $600? unbelievable. This is a safety issue and should be recalled.
On 12/5/2014, I noticed that the passenger side tail light was dimmer than the driver's side tail light and the brake light did not brighten when the brakes were applied. The dealer indicated that the whole tail light assembly would need to be replaced at an estimated cost of between $400-500 since this is an led integrated system. From an internet search and the NHTSA complaints, it seem that this is an issue that is occurring at low mileages. I cannot afford to replace the tail light assembly and will therefore continue to drive the vehicle as is. I'm sure there many people who have this issue that cannot afford to replace the tail light assembly. In some cases, both the driver's side and passenger side tail lights/brake lights have failed at low mileages, which might cost up to $1000 to resolve this issue. In colorado, we do not have an inspection program, so this issue would not keep drivers from driving their cars in an unsafe condition. I'm afraid it will take a fatality and a lawsuit to elevate this issue to the point where Ford will address this issue.
Noticed right rear brake light lit when headlights are on and brakes not applied. Headlights off, no problem noticed. This seems to be a common problem with Ford / Mercury led tail lights. If rear led lights need to be replaced Ford motor company should put a 7 year / 70k mile guarantee on the high dollar replacement lights. Who makes these for Ford ?.
Defective left rear tail light assembly. Dealer informed me of problem and is currently replacing the assembly. Cost around 400 hundred dollars. One of concerns is why didn't the safety system in this vehicle alert me that I had a tail light out. My Ford fusion identifies when a light is not working and its 4 years older.
Tl- the contact owns a 2010 Mercury fusion/milan/mkz (zephyr). The contact stated the brake lights do not work at night when the tail lights are on. The dealer diagnosed that both of the tail lights needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of this issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. Rwk.
Right rear tail light not working propery. Running light (right bottom) is working but all other leds have failed. This is a replace all part costing over $300. This has happened on my other Milan - luckily before the warranty ran out. Seems to be an issue with this model and can be a safety hazard.
Break lights stayed on /illuminated when head lights were on thus having no break lights at night. Luckily , my husband was following behind me in his vehicle and noticed I had no break lights. Dealer replaced both tail light assemblies due to an electrical short. ($1100) this is dangerous driving at night. Manufacture needs to recall their faulty tail lights.
The right passenger tail light went out. This part is an led and was $300 to replace. Ford said this was no fault of my own. There was no warning that the light was out.
I was made aware of my tail light not functioning when I applied the brakes. When I tried to replace the bulb, I soon learned that the brake light is led and a sealed unit, making it virtually impossible to repair. The replacement unit is astronomically expensive, prices between $150-$350 used. If the unit had a replaceable bulb, then I wouldn't even be writing this. I understand that nothing will most likely be done about this, but it is worth noting that this is a safety concern that needs to be addressed.
Tail lights stay illuminated bright whenever the head/parking lights are on. Have been told this numerous times even by tenn highway patrol. Took it mtn view Ford, my regular dealer who replaced the brake light switch under premiumcare for the $100 deductible. Then they told me that I needed to replace both of my tail lights which is $375 each plus labor due to the fact that they were led lights and could not be repaired. This very disheartening since I see that this is evidently a common problem with these vehicles and is not covered under the extended warranty. I guess Ford knew that there would be a problem with the lights and excluded it. I need the NHTSA to have a recall issued so Ford will admit their problem and make it right for their consumers. The approximately $1000 dollars to repair this is unreasonable when a simple bulb change could have resolved the problem. Yes, I did have a throttle body problem which was repaired under my warranty before the recall and when the recall was issued mtn view Ford sent me a check for my $100 deductible. I wonder what will go wrong next. The only injury or fatality due to this is may wallet.
When the headlights are on the rear driver's side tail light does not light as brightly as the passenger side. I have had several people bring this to my attention beginning in approximately sept 2014. My sister in law followed me one night and it drove her absolutely crazy. I have had many people express concerns that I may get stopped for this. I inquired yesterday at the Ford dealer about getting this fixed and was told that the whole unit needs to be replaced because they are led lights. Approximate cost is $410 plus tax. I since have looked on line to inquire about replacing it myself and found that this is a common problem for Mercury Milans and Ford fusions.
My 2010 Mercury Milan has two lighting issues not caused by custom lights or bad wiring. The first is my drivers side tail light is fully illuminated like im pressing the brake pedal when I am not. I turn my lights om and it either flickers or stays on or both. I have read at least a few hundred others complaining of something similar or worse. Please investigate it and I can show you a picture if needed. Now, the second is. . . . Moisture gets into my plate light covers causing one light to short and the other to flicker. This may be a problem with all license plate light covers. I have noticed on the 2010 Ford fusion/focus and the Mercury Milan models there is almost always one plate light out. Take note that my lense cover isnt cracked or compromised in any visible way. Those are the two lighting iissues I have. On some reports read I have seen that Ford knows but refuses to repair it and many oem factory lights have the same issue. It is a problem in the circut board for the l. E. D lights. Please I urge you to investigate this known issue so nobody gets iinjured or killed by faulty tail lights. Thank you.
My 2010 Mercury Milan only has 18300 miles on it and I was told that the whole tail light assembly needs to be replaced and it is not covered under the extended warranty. The brake light stays on continuously when the headlights are on. It is a known problem. The cost is almost $500. 00. Obviously this car. Is not driven a lot.
We had our oil changes and a safety check performed by our local Ford dealer in elmira, NY and we were informed that when our parking lights were on the right rear (passenger side) tail light was illuminated as if the brake light were on and the left side was a normal illumination. This I saw as a serious safety issue because it could confuse someone behind the car and possibly lead to an accident and wondered why this was happening so I went online and learned that I am one of possibly thousands that this is happening to. The fix is to replace the entire tail-light assembly which at a dealer would cost between $400. 00 to $600. 00. The tailight is an led assembly and in my opinion it is a faulty part. It poses a very serious safety issue and because from my research it can happen at any age or millage is should be recalled and be replaced with a reliable unit. Years ago one knew when your light was out or your turn signal wasn't working and it was a cheap $2. 00 fix. I was lucky because only one light was bad but what if both lights were bad I or my wife could have been involved in a very serious accident. I know that it was a definite fault in the unit because when the parking lights were not on it functioned as it should when the brakes were applied. Lets get a recall so people won't get hurt.
Rear passenger led tail light flickers intermittenty when headlights are on and brake light on this lamp illuminates though no pressure on the brake pedal. Per my research, Ford is charging customers for this repair (up to $500 per light) though it is a safety issue. Flickering light distracting to other drivers as well as unsafe as brake illuminates randomly though I am not braking.
Same failure as everyother Milan. Drivers side rear taillight malfunction! anytime headlights are on the taillight lights up as if the brakes are on. They aren't. Dealership pretends not to know anything about the problem. Ford lost two sales on this one. When the Mercury and the Lincoln come of age, back to imports for this couple.
Left tail light started flickering and now is completely out. Was told assembly needs to be replaced. This is at least a $400 fix. This is a led light and should have lasted more than 4 years. This is a safety concern and a recall should be issued.
Soon after purchase one of the tail lights would not shut off with the car. Then the other tail lights would slowly go out in rows until almost dark. Both tail lights are involved and it is an intermittent problem. The dealer finally said there is a short in both tail lights and the parts alone are $915. 00 not counting the installation costs. These should be robust led tail lights. There is obviously some issue with the lights themselves or the wiring due to the number of complaints when researching the problem online. These is a major safety issue when people can be driving their car and the tail lights just slowly go out or do not come on at all.
Led tail lights failed for the second time. The cost of the replacement tail lights is astronomical at 376. 00 each. There was no collision, no water intrusion. They just failed.
Brake light tail light just stopped working. Seems to be a common expensive problem that Ford should stand by. I wish there was an aftermarket tail light assembly. Led's should last longer than four year's.
The rear passenger side tail light has burnt out. The tail light is led and therefore the entire tail light assembly must be replaced. The cost from Ford dealership is $428 for only the part not including labor. I have researced several sites, and find this to be a common problem for this make and model of vehicle. Lighting is a safety issue and Ford should back up their engineering flaw.
A few times, people driving behind me have beeped at me and I didn't know why other than maybe they were upset I wasn't driving fast enough. Then about two months ago, a police officer pulled me over to warn me my tail light was not working properly and to get it fixed. The outer(quarter panel) led tail light assembly is not working properly and this could cause an accident from behind. I brought the car to nazareth Ford, which stated that the led lights are supposed to last much more than four years, but is not under warranty.
Passenger side tail light went out. These are led's and not suppose to burn out. In looking for this problem with Milan's on the internet I found a number of incidents referring to the same thing. Cost of repair is $400 plus. Called Ford customer service and they know nothing about this problem.
The passenger side led tail light is no longer working. The car is not even 5 years old yet. Leds should not fail this quickly since this is a critical safety part. My understanding is that it is not covered under my Ford premium level extended warranty. It is a costly part.
