1997 Mountaineer firestone tire separated while driving. The consumer was informed that he would be reimbursed for the tires that he replaced.

Pe00020 ;tire tread separation: while driving about 65/70 mph, tread peeled off rear passenger's side tire. Vehicle went all over the highway before driver was able to gain control. Tire size p235/75r15, dot # urbx074593, original tire equipment on a 1997, Mercury Mountaineer. Damages to the vehicle was repaired by the dealership. Also, replaced two tires at no charge to owner. The rear left tire also began to peel and these tires are unsafe and should be recalled, according to the customer.

Consumer received a recall notice from firestone#recall number. Two rear tire s and front tires have tread separation. Firestone, wilderness#at, p235/75r15. All four tires have hairline cracks around the tread.

Other remaining original tires are cracked along the tread on sidewall. We have tried several options to get tires replaced but were told that it could be 18 months. While driving at 75mph front left firestone atx tire (p23575r15) blew out due to tread separation. Dealer prorated tire. The consumer also purchased 3 other tires.

During December 1999 I had a firestone wilderness at tire begin to separate; therefore, I replaced the tire. On approximately April 16, 2000 I had another firestone wilderness at tire actually seperate while traveling on interstate 10 at approximately 70 miles per hour. Consumer was experiencing severe vibration when dealer checked the tire he found thet the friestone wilderness tires (p235/75r15) were ripping apart, consumer immediately replaced all four tires prior to recall notice 00t-005 and request reimbursement. Nlm.

We no longer have the tires on our car. However, all four tires had the steel belts fall apart at one time. The rear right tire had a blowout while we were driving causing close to $11,000 in damage on our vehicle, $3,000 in personal expense for us and other expenses to our insurance company for property damage. The week before our trip in which the tires fell apart, we had our tires rotated, aleigned and checked. We always have our vehicles in top shape not only for a trip, but throughout the year as well. I would also like to mention that I did not know some of the information asked for on the form. I did my best. I am hoping that the investigation into the firestone tires would help to recover some of the expense we and our insurance company had to pay. Due to the accident, our rates have increased as well. We experienced a blow out on the right front tire and upon examination discovered tread separation on the left front. Both tires were original. These tires are not identified as part of the recall, but were clearly defective. I replaced the two front tires at 40,977 miles and have now purchased 5 new tires. Peoo o20; consumer was traveling about 55mph on highway and heard a noise. Right passenger's tire tread separated. He was able to bring vehicle to a complete stop. Firestone #atx, p23575r15. There were no injuries. Consumer contacted firestone, and they replaced tires with the other defective tires from #vd plant.

Traveling south on I-84 in northern utah at 75 mph when tire tread instantly and completley separated from the tire. Four of the five original equipment tire that are currently on the vehicle are from the w2 plant, so there is a high probability that the failed tire was also from w2. Was driving 55mph; rear end felt loose & vehicle started to become wobbly. Lost control of vehicle after air left tire. Vehicle pulled sharply to right, then became stuck in sand. Checked tires & noticed right rear tire had completely lost its tread. Firestone wilderness at tire p235/75r15, dot vnhl.

The tire came apart at 60 miles per hour on a clean open road (I-70 in frederick, MD). I had it replaced and was thankful it wasn't the front tire as the driver was able to bring it to a stop along side the road. ( dot number: tire size: 235 75r15 ).

Pe-00-020; tires are believed to be original equipment on a Mercury, Mountaineer 1997, tires size p23575r15 dot number begin with w2hl, tires have 50 thousand miles on them. Consumer has notice evidence of tread separtion on the left rear tire and the right rear tire, the inner belts are separating which is causing the tires to wobble.

There were 4 of these tires on my vehicle. I took the vehicle to a firestone dealer who told me since they didn't have the letters vd , which indicated the factory name, on them they were fine. About l week later my son was en route from charlotte to atlanta when one of these tires separated. He had to go to the expense of staying in a motel that night. The next morning he bought a goodyear tire and proceeded to atlanta. Luckily his life was spared. When he returned to charlotte on the following Monday, he again talked with a firestone dealer and we called the hotline for assistance. We were again told there was nothing they could do since the tires had not been recalled. He did not feel safe driving around with the 3 others on the vehicle so he bought 3 more goodyear tires. We would like to be reimbursed for these tires. ( dot number: tire size: 105sm/s ).

69 Tire Tread/belt problem

One of four identical tires installed at factory bubbled and started to separate, at which time I replaced all four. I kept the wilderness at's in my shed because they are not on the list of recalled tires, but obviously are defective and dangerous. They were installed on a Mercury Mountaineer, and are a passenger tire, not a truck tire, which concerns me. I took the car to the Mercury dealer and firestone dealer, but they refused to address any problem, simply stating that my tires are not part of the national recall. Original equipment on a 1997, Mercury, Mountaineer, p235/75r15 size dot# wzhl1py107 and wzhl1py296. Tread on the left rear tire was starting to separate. Firestone has inspected tires. The right front tire failed. The customer bought four new tires for safety reason.
