The contact owns a 2003 Mercury Mountaineer. The contact stated while traveling on a major highway, the accelerator pedal became stuck. The contact stated that the brake pedal had to be engaged and the accelerator pedal had to be depress several times in order to release it. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 135,000.

Vehicle speed control: while preparing to back up, before shifting, vehicle jumped, and then suddenly accelerated forward, brakes were applied but vehicle wouldn't stop and engine was roaring as if the accelerator was stuck. Vehicle went airborne over an embankment, through a lawn, hit a rock/debris area, tire blew before hitting curve, landed on right rim, was then able to put vehicle in park. Vehicle towed away, dealership currently states nothing is wrong with the vehicle. Help!!.

Throttle body was covered with carbon that caused the accelerator to stick while driving. This condition also caused the vehicle to surge forward or backwards when additional pressure was applied to the accelerator pedal to release the stuck pedal. Cleaning of the throttle body seemed to remedy the problem.

After driving for about 17 miles consumer parked vehicle to unload it. Then restarted it to take it into garage. At about 5 mph accelerator stuck, causing vehicle to run into deep freezer and demolishing it.

Accelerator had been sticking. On February 22 vehicle was at stop light, light changed, consumer applied gas, nothing happened , applied gas with more force and vehicle surged forward and hit vehicle in front . $ 1700 damage to consumer's vehicle.
While driving accelerator pedal will stick and have to be forced up. This defect occurs at random times. However, occurs more frequently during colder weather. Consumer has not taken vehicle to a dealership/mechanic to have it looked at.
Accelerator stuck between 3,000-4,000 rpm's. Driver pressing on the brake pedal would not stop vehicle. The vehicle stopped when driver threw the vehicle into neutral and turned off the engine. Vehicle has been towed to dealership. Vehicle would not stop with both feet on the pedal, incident happened after recall repair was completed.
While driving the accelerator sticks, and when stepping on the brake the accelerator sticks. Incident happened two times when car just took off. Dealer cannot duplicate the problem.
