1 Automatic Transmission Column Shift problem of the 2002 Mercury Mountaineer

Failure Date: 07/13/2010

The contact owns a 2002 Mercury Mountaineer. While driving at approximately 35 mph, the vehicle was hesitant to accelerate. The overdrive off warning light then illuminated. The dealer informed the contact that the transmission would need to be replaced. The dealer replaced the transmission. Following repairs, the contact stated the vehicle would intermittently shift from drive into neutral involuntarily. The contact would shut off the engine and when restarting, the vehicle would resume normal operation. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer where the contact was advised that the shift lever column was bent and the shift linkage cable possibly was abnormally stretched. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 60,000 and the current mileage was 61,000.

2 Automatic Transmission Column Shift problem of the 2002 Mercury Mountaineer

Failure Date: 04/23/2010

The contact owns a 2002 Mercury Mountaineer. While parking, the gear shaft suddenly broke. The contact called the manufacturer who offered no assistance. The vehicle had not been repaired at the time of the complaint.

The contact owns a 2002 Mercury Mountaineer. The vehicle was parked and the contact stated that the gear shifter broke off without warning. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer. The steering column was in the process of being replaced. The failure and current mileages were 108,000.

4 Automatic Transmission Column Shift problem of the 1997 Mercury Mountaineer

Failure Date: 12/31/1998

I bought this Mercury in oct 98 . It is now Jan of 99 and I have had quite a few problems . A warrenty came with this car, and we have been there twice ;one for the transfer case, and switch for the power seat , leak on rear hatch window. Now im returning it for throttle malfunction. I almost killed my children and myself . I made my children jump out of the car while doing aprox . 5 miles an hour. The more I stepped on the brakes the more the engine idled faster . I dont know anything about cars I am a housewife. I just wish I knew about this defect in the car so it could been corrected before I went on vacation . It is a nice car.
