It happens every time I drive this vehicle. The ignition is lose, so the key jiggles and if their is too much bumping or shaking the key slightly moves and the seat and interior lights come on now I’ve tried combat the issue with keeping the lights off on the interior and thought maybe I could turn off the seat function still haven’t figured that out yet.

I was driving on the expressway and my truck just shut off. The car panel illuminati to a check engine light and a wrench. I had to put on my caution light and make it to the shoulder. That was scary. I sat for 10 minutes before it started back up. I've taken it to the dealership and all they did was guess what the problem could be. They said it might be the fuel pump or something electric or the computer. That's not doing me any good, because I'm still having this problem.

The contact owns a 2919 Mercury Mountaineer. The contact stated that check engine illuminated on the instrument panel. The vehicle was taken to a independent mechanic, who diagnosed the vehicle, and stated that the vehicle computer was giving wrong error code. The mechanic had a Ford tech diagnosed the vehicle. He also stated that the computer of the vehicle was giving error codes. The manufacturer was contacted and advised to contact NHTSA and file a complaint because there was no recall under the VIN. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileages was 109,000.

While driving the vehicle the interior light turns on and the seat moves back into the park position. This is a safety issue as it is difficult to reach the pedal/brake and it happens without notice. There is no rhyme or reason to this problem. I have seen multiple posts regarding this issue and don't see how it cannot be a recall for safety reasons.
While driving my seat will randomly move back and forth as if I took the keys out. Thought something was wrong with my transmission but after having the garage put transmission fluid in it still feels like the transmission is messed up even though the garage says the transmission is fine.
1. Paint coming off of roof and driver's door. 2. Rear passenger side and driver side power windows not working. 3. Cracks in plastic area of rear lift gate around wiper arm. 4. Almost lost control and potential accident on interstate when right rear wheel came loose.
Upon driving on the freeway the inside dome lights came on and my seat started adjusting itself back and forth while driving.
I was driving home on a busy city street when I stop at a stop light to turn right. When I went to accelerate my Mercury Mountaineer when in to limp mode. As I inspected the SUV for problems I noticed the my engine/transmission wire harness was brittle and exposing bare wire and that the wires were touching each others cause them to short off the vehicle computer system and frying electrical components. It also caused the transmission to malfunction and shift wrong which in turn causing the torque converter to fail and destroy the transmission.
My power will stay on for long periods of time also I'm having an acceleration problem when I drive I have to wait for it to go to about 25 mi till 26 for it to pick up any speed it takes a very long time for it to pick up any speed in the 1st place.
I was at a gas station making a purchase with my disabled mother. We left the store, and got into my truck. I started my truck and proceed to dive towards the exit of the gas station when I smelled something like burning rubber. I said to my mother that something smelled funny and then looked and saw a thin steam of smoke coming up from in between my legs. I parked the truck and jumpers out leaving my om in the car. I then saw a fire inside of the metal track in which my seat moves mechanically underneath my seat, where the wires are. I ran into the gas station panicked and asked the attendant for a fire extinguisher, to which he replied " no, I don't know I don't have one" and did nothing. So I ran back outside to my truck where my mother was having trouble exiting my truck as she has anxiety and health issues. She finally got out and a tow truck that was driving by, saw the smoke getting heavier and flowing out of my truck, he stopped and out the fire out with an extinguisher. The flames were coming through my seat and I was at a gas station. I was terrified. I have ptsd and this hasn't helped my sleep at all. Also, we were at a gas station and as you know, fire is very dangerous at a gas station. We could've been seriously hurt or worse.

While driving driver seat goes backward and interior lights goes on with out using or pushing no instruments.
While driving the vehicle, the seat suddenly went all the way back and the interior lights came on. This has happened several times since then, we finally figured out it was the ignition, with the car acting like the key just got put in the ignition or just pulled out, and the seat moving all the way back for easier ingress/egress and the courtesy lights coming on. Since I am only 5 foot 4 inches, when the seat moves back I can no longer reach the petals, a very dangerous situation while driving.
When going 25-30 mph vehicle will not shift. It actually kicked the vehicle back. Od light started to flash then service engine soon light came on. Been doing this since. Went to go get Mountaineer read and of coarse. . The transmission. . Something needs to be done otherwise this might eventually lead to a lawsuit after reading all of the complaints on the exact same thing.
The contact owns a 2007 Mercury Mountaineer. While driving at an unknown speed, the driver's seat adjusted on its own. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the ignition needed to be replaced. The repair was not made. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The VIN was unknown. The failure mileage was 87,000.
While driving the driver seat automatically goes back and the interior light comes on. . . This is gonna cause an accident cuz when the seat goes back the memory key for the seat position doesnt work until u turn the ignition off and back on again, once the seat goes back I cant reach the break or peddle. This is dangerous situation and isee im not the only one having this issue? it happens several times a day. . Soemtime when u first start it but mostly while driving down the road.
Easy entry/exit feature. This feature will enable while driving my vehicle. This makes for a dangerous situation because I am not able to reach my gas and brake pedal. There is no specific pattern.
The contact owns a 2005 Mercury Mountaineer. When the vehicle was started, the contact heard a knocking noise from the middle of the dashboard and cold air was blowing from the vents. The dealer diagnosed that the temperature blender actuator failed and needed replacement. This was the third time the vehicle was repaired for the same failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 98,581.

While driving, the drivers power seat will move to the "open door position" causing my feet to be too far from the pedals. This is extremely dangerous. I have seen many reports regarding this issue.
The contact owns a 2008 Mercury Mountaineer. The contact stated that the key failed to start the vehicle numerous times. In addition, the driver's seat moved out of position while the vehicle was in motion. The vehicle was taken to the dealer more than once, but the failure was unable to be diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was not available.
When driving the vehicle at any speed the seat moves all the way back and the interior lights come on. This also happens when you brake or go over a bump. This is very dangerous to someone of my size because when the seat goes all the way back I can no longer touch the pedals. This is happening very often and I have googled it and I can see that a lot of other people who own this year make and model are having the same problems with their vehicle. I have taken it to several mechanics and Ford dealers and nobody seems to be able to figure out what is wrong with it.
After approximately 90,000 miles the dome lights turned on and automatic seats move back while driving. This issue persists and often occurs several times. There are several complaints of this issue found online. It is not due to a heavy key chain as I only have the fob and key attacked. This is a safety issue as the seats pull the driver away from the pedals and steering wheel. Investigate! recall!.
Rear door latch is inoperative. Also right front passenger door lock is inoperative.

My husband was driving our 2005 Mercury Mountaineer and he was going less than 20 miles per hour on a main street and got in a accident the woman stopped short and he rear ended her. The car totalled up buckled up air bags never inflated they came out completely deflated. Issue with this car also is the electric driver window dies out mechanic could not figure out bought new motors still wouldnt open electric switches they thought it was fully electronic they where going to re wire very expensibe but car was totalled. Car horrible on gas also. Have pictures of delated air bags both driver and passanger.
Defective ignition. When driving, if you bump the key (or attached keychain), all interior lights will come on, and the drivers seat will retract all the way back into the "easy entry/exit" position, making it impossible for a shorter person to reach the brake or gas pedal. Sometimes during this event, the car will stall. This is very dangerous, and the internet is full of people having this identical issue. Why hasn't this been recalled yet?!? people are paying for a new ignition tumbler, but before long it starts happening to the replacement tumbler as well. . Read more...
While my 17 year old daughter was driving with the cruise control on in a 30 -40 mph zone, several lights came on, the power steering went out, and the vehicle stalled. She was on a small 2 lane road, and there were no warnings prior to the occurrence. She was very scared, she turned on the hazard lights and called me immediately. The vehicle then restarted and she drove home. Today (Jan. 5, 2016) the problem occurred again, fortunately in a slow speed zone again. She was able to restart the vehicle and continue driving. This problem is potentially very dangerous and needs to be addressed by the manufacturer, or they need to offer a buy back at full value for placing people at risk.
The contact owns a 2000 Mercury Mountaineer. While parked, the vehicle erupted into flames without warning. The fire was extinguished by the fire department. A police report was not filed and there were no injuries reported. The vehicle remained at the contact's residence where it was not diagnosed or repaired. The vehicle was destroyed. The vehicle parked in front of the contact's vehicle was also destroyed. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The VIN was included in NHTSA campaign number: 05v017000 (vehicle speed control). The failure mileage was approximately 155,000.
While driving to work one morning all I here was ding ding ding od/off started flashing . Sec later check transmission light came on now when I drive putting foot on the paddle to go it will idel up I release and it will shift n go. Aamco saying that I need a rebuilt tranny that's bs with all what I have been reading it's just a rip off I don't have $3500 to get this fix. Now seeing not once not twice so many complaints I read that people paid for 2 or more tranny for the vehicle's and nothing is been done about it. And the Ford deals knows about it. . . . . Do a human being has to lose their life before Ford dealer's can own up to there responsibility? if they was in our shoes they would want the same thing vice verse they say u reap what you sow. Please please please help up just fix our transmission that's all. . Another thing abs light stays on check engine light stays on the seat belt light stays on all my windows doesn't let down now wtf?.
Exact same as NHTSA id # 10654146. The "easy exit" feature activated at 65 mph in freeway traffic. I am 6' tall and was able to slide seat forward, but my wife is 5' tall and may have had issues reaching the pedals. . . This has since happened on 3 other occasions ( 2 at freeway speed, and once pulling into our driveway). I will contact dealer, but wanted search recalls first.
Seat moved back for "easy exit" all vehicle components shut off and vehicle brakes locked up in the road then cut back on by itself and transmission jerked into gear like someone rear ended us! very scary and unsafe with my 10 month old in the vehicle!.
The same as other complaints except it is an ongoing problem. Easy exit feature activates on its own, dome light comes on at slow or moderate speed, sudden stops and turning. Sometimes it corrects itself and sometimes you have to manually adjust the seat. Very annoying and unsafe.
