I have 2003 Mercury Mountaineer and I have had it since February 2007. I have had numerous problems with it and the last problems was the breaking point. I have three more years to pay for this vehicle and I want something to be done about the problems with this vehcile. Ford should be held responsible for this vehicle and fixing the problems associated with it. I purchased this vehicle from community Ford in new albany, ms in February 2007 with 45,000 miles on it. I couldn't get an extended warranty or any warranty with the vehicle I was told. After a year, I had to replace the front end and it was $500. 00 at george's tire services. I took it in due to this noise coming from the front and I was advised that if I didn't have the work did it would lock up on me while I am driving and cause and accident. I noticed that my structure body:hatchback/tailgate has cracked completely. My seat belt on the driver side in the back don't work. My engine cooling system aircompressor has went out and I have electrical problems where my oil gauge is constantly saying it's low. I have my oil change every 3000 miles. I am hearing this noise in the rear of the vehicle and I don't know what it is and can't afford to get going to Ford to see what it is. I have been smelling this burning coming from the under the hood and I don't know what it is either. My lastest problem is my transmission is going out and I have had this vehicle for two years and I have three more years of payment on this vehicle. My transmission cost me around $3500 and I don't have any warranty on it. This is a lemon I have purchased and I think something should be done about it.

Front end noise and vibration this is happening to a large number of Ford SUV explorers and Mountaineers. It is effecting the driving and shakes the steering wheel. The SUV springs are making a large noisy sound when turning and cant turn all the way in one direction. Truck just stops at a certain point.
The front end dash has a very loud rattle while letting up on the gas or depressing the brake the vehicle has been in the shop five times. They have readjusted the a/c lines many times, tightened items in the engine, and replaced a missing bolt in the firewall. It was fixed once that last a couple of months, but the noise is back. It will be going in the shop for the sixth time. Also, there is a squeak when going over bumps. It has been in the shop twice and they replaced the ball bearing joints. However, the squeak is back.
While driving 45-50 mph a rattle / shaking would start coming from front of vehicle. Dealer / manufacturer were notified. Feel free to provide any further information.

A loud popping noise could be heard coming from front end of vehicle. Dealer has been contacted for problem, and replaced tie rods. Consumer stated that this did not remedy the problem.
While driving at any speed there is a loud thumping noise that comes from the front end of vehicle.
The problems have existed since I bought the truck. At 55/60 miles the front end starts bumping up and down to the point it's unsafe. The dealer has changed the tires and the driftshaft assembly, but the problems persists. Both the dealer and the Ford rep. Say this is a normal part of driving this vehicle, but when the truck is vibrating and bumping on the highway I do not believe it's normal. Other mountaineener drivers tell me this is not normal. Just this past week the goodyear dealer identified a bad tire and replaced it. Goodyears says I also have two bent rims and the Lincoln dealer says I don't. They did replace the two front rims because goodyear identified the fact that all four rims were/are bent. I am continuing to work with the dealer but feel this problem should be documented and would like to know if there is data concerning this problem. The Ford reg. Rep and the Ford service dept. Have said point blank their responsibility is to support the local dealer. Where does a consumer get help?.

Traveling at 65 mph on I-71 near lodi, OH I drifted on to the grassy median and when I tried to pull it back to the pavement witnesses said that the vehilce flipped first landing on the rear end the continue until it landed on its wheels. Although I was driving, I don't rember anything after turning the wheel until the state trooper spoke to as the rescue squad was removing me from the car. (dot number: n/a tiresize: standard).

We were going from houston to maryland. In normal driving conditions, the truck began to vibrate violently, before we could pull it off to the side of the road, the tire blew off the truck, and my wife and myself found ourselves wrapped around a tree. We had our two dogs and two cats with us, in their crates in the back of the truck. We lost one cat, and our german shepherd had his spinal cord crushed, and subsequently had to be put to sleep. Now we hear that Ford knew about this problem, and it has been happening to more people. I do not understand how they could be so neglegent. We would have been another one of those fatalities had we not hit that tree exactly where we did. We are considering filing suit, and would appreciate any advice. Thankyou. When you call us, we can provide the VIN number, I just did not have it right now. ( dot number: ).
The steering gear was replaced, the dealership did not complete front end alignment after replacement which resulted in excessive wear of the front tires, consumer is requesting reimbursement for replacement tires that were required.
I was one of the fortunate former owners of firestone wilderness at tires. On January 28,2000 I visited a local tire kingdom inc tire dealership in clearwater florida for a possible front end alignment and tire balancing because I was complaining about a vibration in my front end of my 97 Mercury Mountaineer. I do mostly highway driving @ 60-70mph at the time I had 34k miles on the odometer. When the mechanic started working on my car he began removing the tires from my SUV to rotate and balance my tires. He noticed that two of my tires had signs of belt separation and the tires were no longer usable. I actually witness the condition of these tires . It was recommended that the tires be replaced. Which I immediately approved them to do. I actually replaced all four tires. At a cost of approx. $400. 00. As we all know firestone began the recall of wilderness at tires produced at the decatur plant experienced an increased rate of tread separation claims. (dot number: w2 tiresize: p235x15).
While driving at highway speed , the front suspension broke in half, dropping to the ground , throwing the occupants in the vehicle to sustain injuries. The dealer has been notified.
