Right rear coil spring failure. A 5 inch long piece of coil spring was found under the vehicle on the driveway. Inspection confirmed the spring had failed. The vehicle has no crash or damage history. The broken piece of spring was corroded at both ends , indicating it was cracked for a significant amount of time before the total failure. Online research indicates this may be an endemic problem with this vehicle.

Dealer inspected clunking noise in turns and over bumps during mild/moderate acceleration. Diagnosis: lower steering column was worn and causing noise. Dealer confirmed that failure of this part would result in loss of control of vehicle. Dealer was unable to answer why this part could possible wear out after 40,000 miles of normal driving.

Directional signal cannot be engaged when steering wheel is in 1:00, 5:00, 7:00 or 11:00 position. According to dealer it is functioning as designed. Cannot use directional signals at about 10% of the intersections when needed.
