The contact owns a 1999 Mercury Mountaineer. The vehicle was equipped with goodyear wrangler tires, line size: p235/75/r15, dot number: rtn-st235-75-15105s. The contact stated that while driving 70 mph, the front passenger side tire blew. The contact lost control of vehicle and drove into the woods, crashing into several trees. The contact received injuries to the ribs, head, back and shoulders. The police department was called to the scene and a police report was filed (south carolina police report number: 40-8691422). The vehicle was destroyed. The approximate failure and current mileage was 80,000.

3 Tire Blowout problem of the 2002 Mercury Mountaineer

Failure Date: 06/01/2008

The contact owns a 2002 Mercury Mountaineer. The vehicle has toyo open country at tires, size p22570r15 (na). The tires were purchased brand new in may of 2007 from jensen tire company while driving 15 mph. At 36,000 miles, the rear passenger tire blew out in June of 2008. The repair shop stated that the tire was worn down to the steel. The tire company from where the tire was purchased is providing reimbursement for the failed tire. The remaining tires were inspected by other shops and each shop recommended that the rest of the tires be replaced. Toyo stated that the tires needed an alignment. The contact stated that an alignment had just been performed; however, the manufacturer advised her to have another one. While the vehicle was at the shop, the mechanic stated that the ball joints were defective due to the damage caused by the tires and needed to be replaced. The ball joints have not been replaced and the manufacturer is refusing responsibility for the repairs. The failure mileage was 34,200 and current mileage was 123,402.

My wife was driving back to work at lunch, clear day, unlimited visibility, clear road conditions, when the driver side rear tire sidewall blew out. Fortunately, no one was hurt. The tire was put on the vechicle by the Ford dealership during the firestone recall. A passerby helped my wife change the tire. This is a goodyear wrangler rts, p235/75/15.

While driving 65 mph, the front passenger side tire blew out. The consumer managed to pull over to change tire. The dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem. Before the tire blowout I had the tires inspected at the local firestone store and was told I had no tires that fell under the tire recall. When I went to another tire store to have the blowout replaced I was informed that tire was under the recall, the vehilce was inspected again and two more tires were recal tires. I went back to the firestone store were the tires were first inspected and the manager told me I was wrong about the tires being recalled after I told me another tire store had replaced for free under the recall dot number, I was then told I could not prove the tires were on recall to him so legally he did nothing wrong by telling he the tires were safe so now it was my word against his. I called firestone corporation and told them the same story but got no responce from the company eather. (dot number: vdhl tiresize: 235/75r15).

Pe00 020; consumer was traveling about 70mph on highway and heard a popping noise. Vehicle veered off into a bar ditch, and it traveled down bar ditch, and hit guardrail. Then went sideways into the lane of traffic, and then hit enbankment. Incident was caused by a tire blowout.

Prior to publicized reports or recalls on firestone tires I had my first 2 tire blowouts in my 20 years of driving on my new Mercury Mountaineer. The first was considered a puncture which I accepted. The second was considered a road hazard by the firestone dealer. The second tire blow out appeared much like a bad hair piece, I am now aware of the term - tread separartion. Again, this occured prior to any reports of any firestone tire defects. I went to another tire dealer for replacement as I was not satisified with the firestone dealers explaination. February 1998 while driving on a divided highway between phoenix and tucson at about 65mph, the left rear tire blew out by throwing the entire tread belt off and causing the car to end up crossing the left lane and going down into the median. The tire was taken back to firestone in tucson in Feb 98 and they said too bad, its road hazzard, you hit something on the highway and just weren't Smart enough to know it. Mercury at least replaced the rim. We were so disgusted with firestone that we bought two new tires for the front from a different dealer. Thank god it was the rear tire that blew out.
