Tl the contact owns a 2005 Mercury Mountaineer equipped with four cooper discoverer h/t tires, size: 245/65r17. The contact stated that all four tires rumbled and rode roughly instead of providing a smooth, stable ride while driving at any speed. The vehicle was taken to a tire facility more than five times, but the cause of the failure could not be determined. The manufacturer was contacted, but had not requested that the tires be sent to them for testing. The contact waited over two years for a response from the manufacturer and decided to replace the tires on his own. Once the tires were replaced, the rumbling stopped. The dot number, VIN, and tire and vehicle failure mileage were unknown.

Moved my truck to let another car out of the drive way. Pulled back in turned the truck off came in the house and heard a loud boom. Looked out the window and fire was shooting up by the wheel.
The contact owns a 1998 Mercury Mountaineer equipped with turbo tech radial a/sr tires, line size p235/75r15, dot number ut1tt2e4305. The contact was driving approximately 55 mph when a loud pop sounded from the exterior of the vehicle. The contact suddenly lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle flipped over twice and landed onto the center lane of the highway. The contact sustained a mild concussion and injuries to the knee, back and neck. A police report was available. The failure was caused by the rear driver side tire exploding. The vehicle was destroyed and towed to a salvage yard. The failure mileage was approximately 149,000.
Two complaints. 1) transmission downshifts hard when slowing, such as for a stop sign. Mercury says it is a software problem. They are aware of the problem but won't fix it under the extended warranty. My vehicle has 37,700 miles. 2) extreme wire wear. It came with michlin tires and I have gotten far less than 20,000 miles out of them. I am now replacing with bridgestone. I don't know if it is the tire or something defective with the vehicle. The dealership lied to me when I took it in for them to check. The michlins are wearing in the center of the tread and the dealership told me that it was because I had 45 pounds in the tires. I am very concerned about all aspects of upkeep of my vehicle. It calls for 32 psi front and rear. The tires are always within a couple of pounds of that figure. Granted the wear does look like overinflation. Something is wrong with the tire or the vehicle. I have made sure the alignment is right on and it does alighn properly so I tend to believe it is the michlin cross terrian 235x65x18 tires. Other than the trans which the dealership advises will be fixed with a software upgrade and the tire problem, everything else is very satisfactory with the vehicle.

1999 Mercury Mountaineer developed problems with the windshield wipers, tires, driver's side mirror, linkage on the transmission, check engine light and the airbag light.
On Friday, October 22, 2004, I was driving on the taconic state parkway by pudding street in new york, my driver's side front tire exploded out of nowhere. There was no absolutely no hazards on the roadway and it was a smooth road surface. All my goodyear wrangler rts tires were not more than one month old. Goodyear and sears will not honor the warranty saying that I went over something on the road which is absolutely false. Sears found a crack in the tread, buts says it is not covered under the goodyear warranty. These tires are dangerous for the coonsumer.
1998 Mountaineer's tires were apart of a recall and consumer is requesting reimbursement. The vehicle was originally equipped with wilderness at tires which were recalled. The consumer replaced these tire in 2004 after the consumer was almost involved in an accident as result of the faulty tires.
Took the truck back to the dealer for the four time 9/2903 for the check engine light came on again and the same code keeps coming up and it is getting old not to have the truck that we are still paying for monthly. Annd I have all the work orders for what they did.
Driving on a rainy afternoon to my sons house in ridgewood, NJ. I ran over a small rock which punctured my rear tire. The tire had only 3000 miles on it and could not be fixed, it had a 2" tear in it. I feel this should not have happened to a new tire and is unsafe. Eagle LS m+s p245/70r16.
The problems have existed since I bought the truck. At 55/60 miles the front end starts bumping up and down to the point it's unsafe. The dealer has changed the tires and the driftshaft assembly, but the problems persists. Both the dealer and the Ford rep. Say this is a normal part of driving this vehicle, but when the truck is vibrating and bumping on the highway I do not believe it's normal. Other mountaineener drivers tell me this is not normal. Just this past week the goodyear dealer identified a bad tire and replaced it. Goodyears says I also have two bent rims and the Lincoln dealer says I don't. They did replace the two front rims because goodyear identified the fact that all four rims were/are bent. I am continuing to work with the dealer but feel this problem should be documented and would like to know if there is data concerning this problem. The Ford reg. Rep and the Ford service dept. Have said point blank their responsibility is to support the local dealer. Where does a consumer get help?.

My husband was driving at 70mph, and the driver side rear tire tread came off and wrapped around the rear axle. We had been traveling for only an hour and 25 minutes and the outside temperature was 85 dergrees. (dot number: unknown tiresize: 4-p235/75r).
I had a blow out with the firestone recalled tires. The rim cracked. The dealership said that I must of hit something to crack the rim and cause the flat because ther was nothing wrong with the tire. I did not! I said the the rims may be defective or it was caused by the unsafe tires. They dismissed it right away. I called Ford motor company and got tangled up in alot of red tape. I'm writing so these possible rim defects may be investigated, so other people that drive these SUV's don't run the risk of getting injured if they are defective. (tiresize: 15 inch)( dot number: tire size: 15 inch ).
While driving on a dry road in clear conditions, the car hit another vehicle going approximately 30 mph on the front passenger side. This impact caused the vehicle to tilt to the drivers side, sliding for about 60 feet on its side then flipping over onto the roof sliding for another 40 or so feet before stopping. The firestone tires were taken off in August of 2000 and replaced with another brand. I have forgotten which they are but can find out. I have the full police report if you should request it. I feel that the tires are not the problem with this vehicle but the vehicle design itself is the problem.
Firestone wilderness at tires, p235/75r15, dot w2hlipy296 experienced a blowout on the left front tire, dealer said blowout was due to alignment problem, however a Lincoln-Mercury dealer service department examined the tire and declared it defective, the alignment was checked and was found to be well within manufacturers specifications.
Mountaineer's front floor board and seat mounting brakets, especially the passenger side, get hot enough to blister the skin. When the floor board is hot the abs light comes on and it is hard to steer. The Mountaineer also has excessive tire wear on the front which had lead to two sets of tires needing to be replaced. In 3000 miles the tires are worn enough that the Mercury makes a whomping sound much like a flat is hard to turn and is difficult to stop until I have the tires rotated. The whole process then has to be done again in another 3000 miles which according to Ford "should be done every other oil change and this is normal for an SUV. ".
Firestone wilderness at tires on Mercury, Mountaineer 1998 are experiencing problems. Three of tires on the vehicle are cracking.
This tire was not a recall with the vd code. It suddenly failed at highway speed by losing part of its tread. The tread separated from the ply for a distance of approx 18" on one side of the tire. Photos are available. (dot number: w2hlipy2hl tiresize: p235/75r15).
Tire had been replaced only one week and it went flat. A hole was in it. I did not run over anything, or into anything, and there was not a nail, etc in the tire. (tiresize: 15)( dot number: tire size: 15 ).
Original equipment on a Mercury, mountineer 2000, p235/75r15 dot e4027477. While driving can feel, and hear/ feel a bumping noise coming from the tire.
All four tires exhibit cracks around perimeter of tires at the base of the tread. Tires are not vd or subject to recall. Three are us made, last is made in canada. The canadian tire has the least amount of cracks. Pictures can be forwarded. I have not contacted a firestone dealer. ( dot number: tire size: 235r75 ).
Tires are showing signs of cracking in the tread. Vehicle experiences abnormal shaking during speeds in excess of 40 mph. ( dot number: w2hl tire size: p235/75r15 ).
The tires are breaking at the marrage line went into a firestone dealership, the manager ahmad madjlessi said that the craking was due to ozone or sun exposure and that he is un able to help, I have all of this in writing from him. ( dot number: vm tire size: p235/70r15 ).
After vacation consumer inspected the tires, looking for numbers on tires, but found cracks on them. Had received a recall notice, but it did not include the dot information. Firestone, wilderness at, p235/75 r15, made in canada.
Upon inspection by my auto mechanic, I was informed today that my right front tire was near imediate failure from seperation of the tread from the tire casing and that the two rear tires were also near failure. I called my dealer and they stated that they will not involve themselves with tires that are not part of a recall. I must replace the tires tommorrow for the safety of my family. Please secure the safety of other families by alerting the public of the present dangers. Recall or not, get these tires off the road. ( dot number: vnhl tire size: p2357515 ).
The dealer was notified on four different occasions of the obvious tire problem. The dealer balanced, rotated and aligned the tires. When the problem persisted the dealer advised that I notify the firestone tire and service center. I went to the firestone dealer and upon inspection of the tires was told that the left front tire was very dangerous because the belts inside the tire were separating. The representative also checked the right front tire and found it to also have separated belts. The firestone representative recommended for safety that I replace all 5 tires. The dealer prorated the tires based on the amount of tread remaining on the tires. As a safety measure I had the tires (wilderness at) replaced with uniroyal tiger paws at a cost of $200. 32. I feel that I should not have had to bear the cost of replacing the tires. The belts were separating due to defective manufacture and should have been replaced at no cost to me. As a single individual who uses the vehicle extensively to travel the defective tires were a safety hazard. ( dot number: w2/235 tire size: 75 15 ).

Pe00-020; consumer had inspected the tires and found out that all four sets of tires were cracking about 1 inch outside of tire near the tread. Mercury, Mountaineer, 1997; firestone, wilderness at, p235/75r15, dot vnhl.
Apparent tread seperation caused tire failure. I narrowly avoided an accident because of this on i294. Defect appears evident. ( dot number: w2hl tire size: p23575r-15 ).
Damaged tire was noticed while stationary. ( dot number: w2hl tire size: p235/75/15 ).
Consumer took firestone tires into dealer to get them checked and they noticed tires had some splits. Consumer replaced tires. While driving home on highway, left rear wheel had some separation. First set of tires were original equipment. P235 75 r15, made in canada. Dot# vnhl ipy.
Because of the news reports of tire problems I decided to rotate the tires on my Mountaineer. On the inside of the right rear tire I found cracks where the steel showed through. I put all the tires back on the car and drove to a firestone dealer. They were willing to give me an adjustment on that tire only. I refused the offer and went to another tire company where I purchased four new tires. I kept the wilderness at tires in case they are needed in the future because of the on going investigation by your organization. ( dot number: w2hl1py897 tire size: p235/75r15 ).
