The contact owns a 1999 Mercury Mountaineer equipped with cooper discoverer h/t tires, size: p265/75r15. While driving approximately 70 mph, a loud banging noise came from the rear of the vehicle. After stopping to inspect the vehicle, it was discovered that the rear driver side tire had experienced tread separation, which also caused damage to the rear body panel of the vehicle. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The VIN and tire failure mileage were unknown. The vehicle failure mileage was 180,000.

The contact owns a 2002 Mercury Mountaineer equipped with bf goodrich tires 105s rugged trail t/a tires, size: p245/65r17. The contact noticed excessive cracking around the tread for all four tires. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was confirmed that the tires needed to be replaced. The tires were not replaced. The tires were not original equipment. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate tire failure mileage was 10,000 and the vehicle failure mileage was 90,000.

The contact owns a 2001 Mercury Mountaineer. The vehicle has cooper discoverer h/t, size p235/75/r15 tires. The correct tire size was unavailable in the drop down menu at the time of this complaint. While driving 70 mph, the tread separated on the passenger side front tire. The tires were inspected and found to have dimples on the sidewalls at only 33,000 miles. The contact stated that the tread exploded off the tire and he lost control of the vehicle. The place where the tires were purchased stated that they have sold hundreds of these tires and have not had any failures. They offered to give him new tires at $20. 00 off since he had a random set of defective tires. The contact did not accept their offer. He stated that the vehicle was serviced as scheduled and he just had the tires rotated. The VIN and engine size were unknown. The current and failure mileages were 107,000.

The consumer was concerned that every year she has to replace the heat sensor. Last year she had to replace it before the vehicle could pass emissions because the check engine light came on. This year the same thing happened. The consumer took the vehicle to the dealer and was told that the problem was the heat sensor. The consumer stated that she replaced the original tires due to the recall on the tires (defect number : 01x001000). The inside of the tread came apart.
While driving at 65 mph, the rear driver side tire tread separated, which caused the vehicle to spin out of control. The tire remained fully inflated when the tread separated.
The consumers vehicle was originally equipped with recall firestone wilderness tires which were replaced at 30k miles. The tires were replaced with goodyear wrangler ht tires. With 38k miles on the tire,the rear passenger side tire blew out while driving 75 mph. The consumer proceeded to change the tire when he noticed that the jack points were located where the tire had bunched up. Once the consumer found a suitable jack point the jack did not adequately raise the vehicle.
My 2000 Mountaineer had 17,000 when purchased. I had noticed the dealer had just put new 235/75r15 goodyear wrangler r/ts on it. I was not suspicious but should have been. Ever since purchased I have had a vibration in the front end and my front tires have worn on the inside al the way down to a unsafe tread depth within 10,000 miles. The dealer alligned the front and checked for front end problems two days after purchase. At that time they found it was out but claimed they had just alligned it three days before also. At around 30,000 miles I had to replace the front tires because they were unsafe. I took them to the dealer and the gm told me that it was normal tire wear. I know quite a bit about cars but he did not know that. At that time they checked the front end allignment again and check for problems again and found nothing. A few weeks later the vbration got worse so I jacked it up myself and found that the one a-arm nut was loose. I tightend it and drove back to the dealerand showed one of their mechanics the problem. It had loosend up again already so he tightend all the a-arm nuts. Ileft and within 10 miles one was loose again. I went back to the dealer and told them to replace all the a-arm bolts and nuts. I have since went through 2 more sets of front tires ,so that is 4 sets of tires in 63,000 miles, but they say there is nothing wrong . The treads are coming apart.
While driving 55-60 mph and without warning, right rear tire began to make a flapping noise, tread separated and sidewall bursted. Firestone wilderness ht tires, no other tire information given,.
Pe00 020; all four firestone tires have tread separation. Firestone company has been notified. Firestone, wilderness at, p23575/15.
Travelling southbound on I-35 at milemarker 20 near clarks grove mn when left rear tire blowout occurred without warning, completely separating tread. Vehicle brought to a safe stop on the highway shoulder where spare was installed. (dot number: w2hl tiresize: p235-75r15).
Consumer noticed firestone (vnhl1py108) tires showing signs of cracking around the tread, all 4 tires were replaced and firestone agreed to give consumer partial credit for each tire, even though tires were not apart of recall, but the tires were in excellent condition.
P23575r15; while having tires serviced noticed tread separation. Firestone paid for part of the tire expenses.
I had tire blowout while driving at aprox. 55-60 mph. Vehicle veered from the road . Tire shows signs of tread separation in an area about 8 inches long that runs along the sidewall and raps about 1/3 of the way across the tire. The tire was a right rear wilderness at. The firestone wilderness at p235/75r15sl tires were replaced due to visible cracks between the sidewall and the tread, the tires are not included in the (oot-005) recall, consumer is requesting reimbursement.

Consumer had noticed that tread was separating on all four tires. Took vehicle to tire retailer and was inspected. Consumer was informed that tires were bad and needed to be replaced. Dot, w2hl10y518, p235/75r15, with 2,000 miles. The tires are firestone wilderness at, consumer requests reimbursement for replacement tires.
Firestone wilderness at tires, p23575r15, dot vdhl1p1323 were showing signs of tread separation, all 4 tires were cracked around the sidewalls, firestone denied refund request because this particular tire is not on recall.
1997, Mercury, mountineer. Consumer does not know if the firestone wilderness (p235 75 r15) tires are the original ones. Left rear tire had a bubble, about the size of a fist, forming on the tire. Tokk to firestone, and they replaced tire. Dot # w2hl1py476.
Tires not under recall/I found cracks around the side wall all around the threat on the inside and outside of tire, all four tires are the same. I check the tires back in August when the recall first came out and there was no cracks in the tires. I will be replacing the tires and keeping the old tires hoping that the recall will be expaned. Looking at the other failures that have been listed , I found other threat seperation on wildernees tires that are not cover by recall. ( dot number: vhhl tire size: p235/15 ).
Pe 00 020/tire tread separation: while parked, noticed front tires showed sign of tread separation from top of tire, where tread meets. Tires mounted on a 1997 Mercury, Mountaineer; original equipment, p235/75r15, dot# w2hl. Firestone was not notified at this time.
On 09/14/00 I left my house and entered my vehicle, to run errands. Upon pulling out of my driveway, I noticed that my tires were slipping. Upon getting out of the car, I noticed I had a flat tire. I called a friend to change my tire. Once the tire was off the vehicle, I began looking for the reason the tire went flat. My friend and I both soon realized that my tire was flat because the tread was beginning to separate from the tire. I still have the tire in my garage. Thankfully, no one was hurt. I have contacted firestone, only to be told that my tires were not included in the recall. It appears to me that the same thing is happening to my tires that happened to the tires being recalled. I am now afraid to drive my car with these tires on it. Being a full-time college student, I need to drive my car. I am not in a position to afford the extra cost of new tires even if I may be reimbursed sometime down the road. Firestone will not help me. I'm hoping you can do something for me. Firestone wilderness at tire p235/75r15 experienced tread separation, prior to failure consuemr heard a bumping noise and slowed down, when inspecting tire the belts were sticking out, consumer replaced all 5 tires.

Consumer had received a recall notice on the firestone tires, p235/75r15 vd. Has to wait on a waiting list to have tires replaced.
After reading information on the recall, inspected the tires, and found cracks on them, as well as tread separation. Firestone p235/75r15 dot # vnhl1py437. The firestone dealers confirmed that the tires were defective. The firstone wilderness at tires had continuous crack on outside of the tread line.
Dealer replaced 1 wilderness at p2357r515 tire, under recall (00t-005), another tire other than that one replaced is out of round, causing steering wheel to wobble, owner would like all wilderness at tires replaced. Cj.

Pe00020, original tire on 1998, Mercury, Mountaineer. All four tires had cracks along tread and sidewall. It seemed that tread has been peeling off. Tire size p235/75r15 and dot # vnhlipy337.
There is a crack (line) that goes around the side of the tire approx 1 to 1. 5 inches below the top of the tread( dot number: w2hl tire size: p235/75r15 ).
Firestone wilderness at tires were included in recall 00t005, however consumer replaced tires after hearing nothing from firestone and requests a reimbursement for all 5 tires.
