Have sent a complaint recently no one has contacted me I've seen on line hundreds of complaints due to faulty transmissions on Ford, and Mercury Mountaineer esp 20001- thru 2012 models and had a 2004 last yr. I had to send to junkyard because transmission was bad and would also stop while driving esp. On highways at speeds over 55 mph many close calls and lucky I wasnt injured or killled due to trouble with transmission not shifting and becoming unresponsive to where it had to be towed several times when transmission became unresponsive now my 2006 Mountaineer awd has similar problems and every one I have tried to purchase as a replacement also has had problems with their transmissions failing so need some advice as to what can be done to correct these issues!. . . . . As in past I stated it fails loses power and transmission fails while driving on highway after slowing down or coming to stop at lights or stop signs it usually is unresponsive and cant get out of low gear and or completely will not go thru gears normally!. . . . Have heard only 2011 models have been recalled recently not fair in my opinion that no one has paid attention to the earlier model Ford explorer and Mountaineer especially in my case o4-08 have all had exact problems similar to my current 06 Mountaineer awd. . . . As severalmechanics recently refuse to work on it telling me they are not worth their time and no guarantees as they feel that they are all faulty from 02-2012 and all shuld have been recalled due to safety issues!. . . . . In my opinion I believe this shuld be looked into before it becomews the cause of an accident or worse. . . I am disabled and need a safer vehicle and in hopes Ford will make right by me and possibly look into and or see about a recall on my 06 Mercury Mountaineer!. Thanks for any time and help! referring to the unsafe drivetrain yet again I am having with now.
Experiencing transmission issues at 75k miles. Took it to shop who reported these transmissions are notoriously bad, replacing some at 60k miles and most by 100k. Mine needs to be replaced at a cost of $2500. Problem is use of aluminum within metal and fast wear. Ford should be held accountable for making poor quality products. Transmissions should have a much greater life than 75k miles. Problems noticed - slipping out of gear while driving, not engaging gear when selected, not shifting into higher gear (overrevving),, clunking shifts. Danger arises when you select gear, accelerate and nothing happens and suddenly it pops into gear which causes vehicle to lunge forward.

Vehicle would not shift gears. 4 rpms at 25 mph. Vehicle slowed. Pulled over and front brakes were on fire.
I own a 2007 Mercury Mountaineer with 46,000 miles. Without warning the transmission started not shifting from gear to gear. The computer indicated "check transmission" and the overdrive off light began to flicker. I promptly stopped the vehicle and called for a roll back to have it taken to a transmissin shop. ($80 tow fee) the shop diagnosed the problem as 3rd gear wrong ratio. The shop owner said that he thought it was a broken sprag. He replaced the transmission with a Ford factory remanufactured unit at the cost of $2813. 00. I have since heard that there is a problem with the transmissions in the 2002 Ford model SUV's as well as in the Mercury's. Is there anything being done to hold the manufacture liable for the expenses incurred?.
The reverse gear tends to pop and switch to another gear, making the vehicle jump. Taken to dealer, but the cause was undetermined.
