Dash Wiring Problems of Mercury Mystique

I have had a shutdown of the heater/ac fan due to melting of the wiring harness described below. I replaced it once a couple years ago and it just fried again. I was unaware of an identified problem prior to this until I saw this no the internet. I live in the desert and is currently triple digit temperatures and is imperative I get this fixed. I checked my VIN number and it is not included on the recall list but from the prior experience I have had with this problem in my car, I feel it should be addressed. Can you help me? symptoms> complete shutdown of a/c, heating. Fan system and an odor of something burned. Last time the harness was fried and the harness was replaced (but I did not know of this particular issue then) but the heater blower resister was not replaced. Campaign number: 01v230000 date: 2001-Jul-09 component: electrical system defect summary: on certain my 1996-1998 passenger vehicles built at the kansas city, cuautitlan assembly plants or on my 1999 passenger vehicles built at the automotive alliance International assembly plants, the rough surface of the heater blower resistor's stainless steel blades can damage the copper surface of the wiring harness connector. The damage could, over time, cause increased resistance in the connector and, due to subsequent terminal relaxation, result in an open circuit condition. Consequence summary: the open circuit could lead to electrical arcing that could melt the connector housing material creasing the potential for a fire. Corrective summary: dealers will install a new heater blower resistor and a new wire jumper harness. Owner notification began August 29, 2001. Owners who take their vehicles to an authorized dealer on an agreed upon service date and do not receive the free remedy within a reasonable time should contact Ford at 1-800-392-3673.

I took my 1999 Mercury Mystique to bob bennet Ford with severe warpage of dash. Told to contact Ford motor's 800 number, did this, person extremely rude, received no help and am afraid dash will completely peel back and cause severe injury to us. Feel this is a safety issue and a disaster waiting to happen. Can you help?.

Dashboard warpage. . . . Cannot see well out of windshield. Called Mercury/Ford customer service and they said they would not honor recall . This is the type of thing that makes you not want to buy that brand of vehicle ever again and I wll not ever buy a Mercury again new or used.

I came to this site looking for recall information to see if there had been a recall related to my problems with the 1998 Mercury Mystique. So far nothing too dangerous has happened, but I am feeling very unsafe for obvious reasons. One by one the electrical systems in my car are shorting out. I haven't been able to power down the passenger side window for quite some time. Then the radio (always faulty -- they were never able to fix it even by replacing it) shorted out completely on the incident date below. Then the interior overhead and floorboard lights shorted out a few days later. I'm concerned that the exterior lights and power steering are next. I can't get an appointment at the dealership to have all this looked at for another couple of weeks. I was checking the site to see if there were any related recalls or complaints. Thought I'd add a complaint because maybe it needs to be looked into.

Starting in June 2000, when a/c was turned on, an obnoxious musty odor was present, then on 12-09-00 with heater turned on and driving 60 mph to work, became very ill and disoriented, later taken by ems, on 3-27-01, when leaving for work and turning out of drivie way, car stalled in middle of street and wouldn't start. Took to dealer fuel pump was replaced, dash was warpped and had to be replace because adhesive was coming off back of dash, fumes or odors from any of these components may have caused me to become totally disoriented which caused me to hit a concrete barrier while driving.

The electrical work on the car is in terrible condition. I purchased the car without noticing a failure in the reverse lighting. The reverse lights failed to work therefore since purchasing the car in greenville my daughter commuted from greensboro to greenville 3 times to have the problem corrected. Next the system failed again and with the same reverse lighting problem. I returned to car to the dealer and the system was corrected, however the panel lights failed and I have had the same problem up until this point.

Whenever vehicle was started, interior and instrument panel lights came on & remained on . Turn signal would constantly be ringing when signal switch was not in use. Took vehicle to dealership & informed mechanic of the problems. Mechanic indicated "has not heard of the problem before," and did not do anything.

Ongoing problem with electrical shortages, causing vehicle to lose power. Vehicle has been to dealer's shop on four occasions, and problem continues to occur. Also a fire orignated under the hood. Feel free to provide further details.

Transmission failure 2 years after car was purchased, engine replaced 2 years after purchase. Hub bearing assembly broke 1 year after purchase of car. Car drives extremely hot - to near over heating point. Trunk leaks when it rains. Driver side window malfunctioning. Instrument panel malfunctioned (was fixed before recall). Check engine light stays on constantly even after tune up/ major work done.

We have had a problem with this car since we bought it. First it was the driveshaft while we were traveling then it was the paint starting to crack, then it was the power steering going out when it was raining. Dealership had no idea what was wrong. Just found out when my husband took a/c switch out that it was burned. Called dealership when it first happenned even though we still had an extended warranty and wanted money out of us. We couldn't afford it. Please see if any of these are defects to where a dealer in west palm beach can correct the problem at no cost. Our warranty has expired at 60,000 miles. Car still vibrates and we have no a/c and it is hot here in florida. We would also like to get the paint taken care of us they knew about it from the beginning when we bought the car. Along with the power steering going out. They said nothing was wrong. This was jim hayes Ford in harrisburg, IL. Dashboard inside of vehicle has lifted up and pulled from panel. Also, vehicle cut off without prior warning. Dealership was aware of problem.
