The rear wheels are locking when the driver is slowing down to stop. This occurs when the weather is cold. The owner was informed by a mechanic that the rear brake assembly was completely rusted. The owner contacted the manufacturer, but received no assistance. 2 Noises During Shifting problem of the 1998 Mercury Mystique

Failure Date: 07/20/1999

When driving at any speed and applying the brakes, there is a knocking noise, and the brakes go straight to the floorboard. Also, transmission is slipping, and consumer can't shift the gears. In addition, vehicle accelerates when driving or coming to a stop.
