I went to leave from a local park on a Saturday evening, but my vehicle would not move out of park. I had to call a tow truck. The tow truck driver showed me a trick how to get the vehicle to start, by turning the ignition key ever so slightly and then trying to move the shifter to neutral. Once in neutral I started the vehicle and drove home. After driving the vehicle for almost a week by starting in neutral, I was stopped on the following Friday by police. I was informed that I didn't have any working brake lights. I drove home and looked on the internet if there were any recalls on this vehicle. Well, there was a recall done in 2004 (NHTSA action number: rq03008), but I was informed by Ford motor company that my vehicle based on its VIN was not apart of the recall. I requested to speak to a supervisor and was instructed that someone would contact me on that following Monday. I was indeed contacted by Ford motor company and informed again, that based on my VIN, that I did not qualify as a part of the recall. I was told if more complaints were made, then something could possibly be done. I told the Ford representative that I was not interested in having my vehicle repaired as I had the repair done based on the recall information for approximately $50. The issue was exactly as it was described on the NHTSA's website, motortrend and Ford motor company's. The repair took approximately 15 minutes and then I was able to start the vehicle in park and the brake lights were functioning. My concern is that for almost a week I drove with no brake lights in a vehicle where I drive around with my wife, a toddler, and an infant and at any point I could have been rear ended because of this defect in the vehicle. The vehicle is 10 years old, it will never have enough complaints. However, it does not diminish the potential for loss of life from this detect.

My 2001 Mercury Sable has now failed on me at least 6 times since I purchased it on Nov. 15,2002. Without warning, I would turn my car off, come back to it and it wouldn't start. Nothing, completely dead. The only thing that did work was the theft light would flash. At first, you could wait for 15 to 30 minutes and it would suddenly start again. This last time, that was not the case. I had it at the Ford dealership three times for this problem and they could never diagnose the problem because it wouldn't do it to them. After my third time of being stranded I told them to keep the car until it was fixed. After three days, they decided they would go ahead and make new keys and replace the theft system although they still had not diagnosed this to be the problem. It worked for a couple of months and guess what, here I am again without a car. Keep in mind, the three times I had the car in for this problem it was still covered under warranty; it no longer is, it has exceeded the mileage.

The back brake lights are not working again. (4th time) also, the car will not move out of park after you start the car. I know these two problems are related to the brake switch. This item has been (replaced) two other times. I am putting the powers that be on notice that if I am in a crash because of this safety issue, I am responsible for it. Also, there is some sort of electrical problem that will keep the car for starting.

Car overheated, taken to mechanic who diagnosed blown headgasket - retooled headgasket. Also replaced water pump, radiator, plugs, plug wires, coil, thermostat, since headgasket problem - car has needed to be repaired constantly. Still has cylinder 1 misfire. Car is 5 yrs old. Seems like excessive prblems for a car that new.
