98 Sable wagon. (spring plate gave and spring blew out tire and damaged front end rods or arms, shock according to Ford service analysis) and left front end almost sitting on the ground. According to Ford analysis). I thought it was just a blow out so I had aaa come to tow it to my dealership. When the aaa driver saw the damage, he said he's seen this several times and that there was a safety recall out for this specific situation. Ford dealership looked up recalls for my car and said there was one for what happened to my car but it was for 99 and newer models and that there was nothing they could do about repairing it under a recall. I called Ford corporate customer service and they told me that there was nothing they could do and wouldn't invest their money into repairing my car. Fortunate for me the incident occurred while backing out of my driveway. If it were on the highway, it would have been a catastrophe. I've been told that the 98s and 99s are very similar, so I don't understand why Ford wouldn't make the repairs at their cost under the safety recall.

I purchased 8 of these exact tires. 4 for my 1994 Ford turuas amd 4 for my Mercury Sable. Previosly on my 1994 three of the original 4 tires I purchased had to be replaced. All within a months time all at around 20,000 miles. The first tire blew the right front tire blew out when my wife was driving the car. A week or so later I noted that the tread was seperating form the left from tire. I contacted michelin regarding this and they said it was the way my wife was driving the car. Upon inspection the michelin dealer found a nother tire that was doing the same thing and they replaced them both at no chage to us. Last week I noticed that on my Sable the left front tire side wall was peeling the same as the others had done on my 1994 Ford. I notifed michelin this time they informed me to go directly to the dealer. They were not willing to replace this tire although it had the same deffects as the other two that where replaced earlier this year. At or around 20,000 miles the side walls of tires begins to crack and the tread begins to peal away form the side. It has happen to two different cars that I own. The same tire, two different drivers yet the same defect. I am not convienced that I am the only one having problems with these tires. I have purchased 8 of the same tires and 4 of the 8 have gone bad. Three tires showed the same tipe of defect. Please look into this as others maybe unaware of the danger these michelin symmetry tires. Thank you for your time.

We were on a trip on September 20, 2000 on a northern California highway traveling about 58 mph when the left rear tire blew out. The car had about 1200 miles on it at that time. A tow truck arrived and the operator changed the tire and stated that the tire was unrepairable due to sidewall failure. We drove to the les schwab tire dealer in burney. Ca. They agreed the tire was unrepairable and sold us a replacement tire for $84. The tire dealer told us to go back where we bought the car to get reimbursed for the cost of the new tire. The lithia motors service department took possession of the defective tire, ordered and eventually replaced it with one of the same brand and size, and stated they would reimburse us for the cost of the les schwab tire. I asked for all the tires to be replaced since I was afraid another tire would fail. They said there were no recalls for that tire and they would not replace any other tires. (dot number: acx8 tiresize: r21560r16).
