98 Sable wagon. (spring plate gave and spring blew out tire and damaged front end rods or arms, shock according to Ford service analysis) and left front end almost sitting on the ground. According to Ford analysis). I thought it was just a blow out so I had aaa come to tow it to my dealership. When the aaa driver saw the damage, he said he's seen this several times and that there was a safety recall out for this specific situation. Ford dealership looked up recalls for my car and said there was one for what happened to my car but it was for 99 and newer models and that there was nothing they could do about repairing it under a recall. I called Ford corporate customer service and they told me that there was nothing they could do and wouldn't invest their money into repairing my car. Fortunate for me the incident occurred while backing out of my driveway. If it were on the highway, it would have been a catastrophe. I've been told that the 98s and 99s are very similar, so I don't understand why Ford wouldn't make the repairs at their cost under the safety recall.

I drove from my home to oxon hill, MD, a distance of approximately 30 miles and the steering was bumpy. When I reached my destination, I did a visual inspection of the tires and nothing appeared unusual. After approximately 45 minutes, I resumed driving. About 11 miles later at exit 15 (214/central avenue east) on 95/495 northbound, the sidewall of the right front tire blew out. I was traveling at a speed of about 65 mph. I pulled off the interstate and looked at the tire. The tread had separated from the sidewall and was approximately 3/4 detached. I got off at the 214/central avenue east ramp and pulled to the side of the road. By this time, the tread had separated completely from the sidewall. The tire had 20,000 miles on it and was a starfire flite-line iv p21560r16. We will go back to the retailer who sold us the four tires and plan to get all four tires replaced.

While traveling at approximately 35 miles per hour on a two lane road I saw a tire tread shoot in front of my vechicle. I then heard a loud noise coming from the rear of my automobile I attempted to pull over and stop. The entire cap part of the tire was missing. Only the side walls remained. It took me quite some time to obtain tow service because I has in a dead zone for my cell phone. The tow truck driver which changed my tire said he would take care of the old cap. I was so tired from this ordeal and long wait for the tow truck after having to walk until I was able to get a cell signal that I did not think to save the cap. Controlling the car to a stop was very stressfull. There is damage to the mag whell and to the guards that surround that tire. I had the dealer examine the remaining 3 tires but found them to look ok. The car had been serviced by this dealer at a little of 35000 miles. I am fearfull that the remaing tires will fail without warning. The dealer took digital photographs to be forwarded to the engineers at Ford. (dot number: adur442368 tiresize: p205/65r15).

- the contact stated that while driving the 1997 Mercury Sable at 20 mph he felt a wobble. The contact stated if the wobble came from the front tire it would cause the steering wheel to shake. The dealership advised the contact this was due to a belt separation in the tire. The dealership replaced the tire. Tire tread separation occurred three times with the front tires and four occurrences involved the rear tires. The tire manufacturer was continental and the model ameri-tech. The vehicle currently had an odometer reading of 86,000 miles. The tires failure mileage was 26,000.
