39 Electrical System problem of the 2007 Mini Cooper

Failure Date: 01/22/2024

I was notified in July 2023 by NHTSA of the potential failure of the footwell control module and subsequent potential "thermal event which could increase the risk of a fire of injury. " apparently, a fix for this issue has not been developed yet. I am afraid to keep my car in the garage, which is attached to my house. 7 months. Does BMW engineering really not know how to replace this poorly-designed component?.

40 Electrical System problem of the 2016 Mini Cooper

Failure Date: 01/19/2024

* component/ system that has malfunctioned and failed - the driver side tail light circuit board and pig tail malfunctioned. The connector has corroded and the plastic plug housing looks melted on the earth / brown wire. This in return damages the the ground connection for the tail light rendering the turn signal the reverse light and the brake light inoperable on the effected side. Yes, my vehicle is available for inspection at any time. *a driver behind an affected vehicle could be confused which could increase the risk of a crash. Vehicle has been inspected by a licensed Mini dealership. They failed to report two of the three nonworking rear lights that have failed due to the connector becoming corroded. The corroded plastic plug housing becomes melted on the earth / brown wire. This in return damages the the ground connection for the tail light rendering the turn signal and brake light inoperable on the effected side. In this case it is the rear driver side. *there was/ is no warning until long after the first second and/ or third rear light(s) were not operable. Intermittently (sometimes) a warning will popup when turning on the vehicle. The vehicle will not warn the driver about and and / or all three lights each and every time the vehicle is turned on. Also while the vehicle is in drive or in reverse , the driver will not have any warning what so ever that the three lights 1. The driver side rear break light 2. The driver side rear reverse light 3. The driver side rear turn signal are not working due to a malfunction. * note that there is a very strong burnt/melted smell that comes from the connector as well. I could smell it on my fingers after removing the connector so I could check the rear bulbs for replacement. Please note the 1st photo-this is how the dealership left my connector after their assessment. Additional photos are of the connector/ pig tail/ circuit board corrosion. Intermittent warrnings for some of the nonworking lights.

41 Electrical System problem of the 2012 Mini Cooper

Failure Date: 01/09/2024

We purchased this vehicle used. It is a 2012 Mini Cooper hardtop and was owned by several owners in the canada, NY and NJ area before being brought to FL and ultimately sold to us. This defect has been known since may, 2023, yet BMW/Mini has done nothing to rectify the problem. The frm module failed immediately after we got the car which rendered it undriveable because the power windows, power door locks, turn signals and key fob were inoperable. We called BMW/Mini about the vehicle being inoperable and unsafe to drive and were told to take it to a repair facility to get the module replaced, which we did. We had to tow it there because it was not safe to drive. We were told we would be reimbursed for the repairs, since this was in fact a documented safety recall #23v-337 footwell control module-frm. After paying $759. 18 for the repairs, I submitted the invoice and the requested information to BMW/Mini just to have them deny my request for reimbursement because they say after an entire year since the notice that there is no remedy available. This is unacceptable!! I could not drive this car without having this module replaced and I am sure I'm not alone in this situation. BMW/Mini should reimburse me for the repairs they instructed me to get done. They point blank lied to me by stating the repairs would be reimbursed due to this being a safety recall. This is going to turn into a class action lawsuit because BMW/Mini refuses to accept responsibility for their faulty vehicles! this will be just another lawsuit to add to their collection.

42 Electrical System problem of the 2016 Mini Cooper

Failure Date: 12/31/2023

There is a design issue resulting in failure of the connector for the rear tail light assembly. The connector corrodes and the plastic plug housing melts. This damages the ground connection for the tail light rendering the turn signal and brake light inoperable on the effected side. This has happened on the right rear of our Mini Cooper jcw hardtop. Searching on the web shows this to be a common problem for the f55, f56 & f57 Minis. As this failure makes the car brake light system non-compliant with fmvss lighting requirements, there should be a recall to address this issue.

I purchased the vehicle used with airbag light showing on the speedometer gauge cluster. Searched with VIN for recalls but showed 0 unrepaired recalls. Tried clearing the light with my launch creader BMW v2 scan tool. Light flashes a few times and goes away but immediately appears on the speedometer gauge cluster. This would happen everytime. Wires are intact with no signs of damages to all 3 wire connectors under the seat.

51 Electrical System problem of the 2010 Mini Cooper

Failure Date: 12/07/2023

My 2010 Mini Cooper convertible recently had an electrical failure. I lost power while driving and the power steering wouldn’t work. Once it started again the blinkers wouldn’t work and brake lights and radio worked intermittently. I took it to the mechanic and the diagnostic determined that the footwell module is bad. Unfortunately this part is apparently on back order so the part cannot be ordered. The car is not safe to drive nor is a solution available. I looked up recalls on Mini Coopers. This current recall shows that the footwell module has been recalled on 2010 hardtop Mini Coopers: Mini recall 23v-xxx: footwell module attachments: BMW ag is conducting a voluntary safety recall (effective may 11, 2023) on certain model year 2007 - 2014 Mini vehicles that were produced between November 16, 2006, and June 27, 2014. (due to several contributing factors (environmental, certain us states’ wintertime road treatment, vehicle design configuration and age), over time, the footwell module (frm) could become susceptible to corrosion) it doesn’t make sense that the exact year Mini in hardtop has the recall. Clearly the footwell modules are a problem in convertibles as well. The wording of the recall says that winter conditions can contribute to the problem. My convertible resided in a winter area for 10 years. I believe that the Mini Cooper convertibles should be included in the recall.

Unknown. I’d just like to know how long Mini is allowed to work on a solution for the safety recall for the footwell control module that was issued last may. Given that they have known about problems with this module for years, it seems to me that they should have a solution ready to deploy by now. Thanks for your assistance.

Or more, then it would crank back up. Now it won't crack at all. I've been waiting on this recall since 5/12/23 recall #23v337. Please advise and help!!.

59 Electrical System problem of the 2009 Mini Cooper

The car horn was going off randomly. I inspected the interior electrical panel on the passenger side of the car and it was damp. There is a recall for this problems in some places, but my vehicle is not included, currently.

60 Electrical System problem of the 2020 Mini Cooper

Failure Date: 10/12/2023

Originally problem started with a about five warning messages, a brake system one, a chassis stabilization one, collision warning one, pedestrian warning one, and a drive train message. They were would appear while drive at any speed but, would go away after the car was shut off and restarted. A couple of months later the car started to shut off and put itself in park while driving, this problem has occurred multiple times and at speeds around 30mph. I started trying to get this fixed by a dealership in December of 2023. It went in and out a couple of times before they were able to replicate the problem. First they replaced the eme module and that worked for about 2000 miles before it started acting up again. Took it back to the same dealership in April when it started acting up. They updated the eme software and replaced a high voltage connector that was corroded. This repair took them until July 2nd. I went to pick up the car and made it about 3 blocks from the dealership it shut itself off on me. Took it back right away. They have had the car since then. Lastly I informed them about the most recent recall back on August 29th and it still shows as incomplete.
