Other Fuel System Problems of Mini Cooper - part 1

The malfunction indicator lamp light is on (mil) with the following fault code stored in the dme: fault code control module fault code text 1b8302 dme lin bus, communication (eac sensor): missing problem verified. Don't know if car will quit on the highway. Mini recall for exact problem and extended warranty to solve the problem only on the "s" model with the exact same engine.

Lower engine support and passenger engine mount damaged as per routine inspection by dealer in feb2025. Never diagnosed before. Repair done by independent service center in feb2025 and I have receipt of approximately 1k. Also, since 22feb2025, I am not able to add fuel to the tank because the pump stops constantly and causes spill of fuel. This can cause fire. Never happened before. Tried at least 4 different gas station and same result. Dealer charges over $200 to perform inspection/diagnostics. Not done yet. Repairs to fuel tank are in the thousands. No warning in the car dashboard for none of the issues. Car with less than 80k miles.

There is a leak which affected the control unit fuel pump. The leak is ongoing throughout many of these cars yet there has not been a recall to fix it. More than $3k in damages. It's something a modern car should not be facing.

No incident occurred. On October 18th we received a high voltage battery recall notice for this car. Apparently there were some thermal events (fires) and BMW has released software to help protect the car from such an event. We have been trying to get in touch with Mini, and just recently found that the dealer closed. They left their answering machine online for about a month after. The local BMW dealer says that they cannot perform the update (Mini USA requested we ask them). Mini USA now says that the car must be trucked 300 miles away to the closest dealer. The car cannot even be driven that far because it has about 100 miles of range, the roads are 75+, and there is limited charging infrastructure. We feel that this presents an undue time and financial burden since the dealer closed down, and this is a manufacturing defect. I have repeatedly been in touch with Mini but have received very little support or advice other than spending an enormous amount of money to have the vehicle shipped out of state.

Freeze plug randomly popped out while driving causing vehicle to stall in the middle of traffic almost causing a major accident and or death. Research indicates there has been numerous complaints by Mini Cooper owners experiencing the same issue of a premature unexplained failure with no action taken from Mini to mitigate this safety issue. I’m lucky to be alive.

There are no open recalls on my car. I am needing physical proof/documentation that the recall part has been replaced. The car is having issues stalling/losing power while driving. The dealership claims there is nothing wrong with the car and if they can't recreate failure then the car is deemed fine to drive. This car was purchased for my 16yr old son as a daily driver. After multiple weeks of the car being at the Mini of tempe dealership, they released the car back to me because there is "nothing wrong" with the car. I took it to another specialized Mini mechanic in the area for a second opinion. This mechanic states the cause of intermittent failure is from the auxillary coolant pump for the turbo. This is the same part that was a safety recall for potential fire. I have no record of this part ever being replaced. As described in the recall, the car is at risk of fire. Started with lights not going off once I cut car off, then windshield wipers would come on it's on, then check engine warning lights, check fuel pump and check rear bulbs lights and several other warning lights would stay on, finally it got to it wouldn't crack until after three or four tries, then it started cutting off while driving, then I would have to wait for 30 min. Or more, then it would crank back up. Now it won't crack at all. I've been waiting on this recall since 5/12/23 recall #23v337. Please advise and help!!.

Originally problem started with a about five warning messages, a brake system one, a chassis stabilization one, collision warning one, pedestrian warning one, and a drive train message. They were would appear while drive at any speed but, would go away after the car was shut off and restarted. A couple of months later the car started to shut off and put itself in park while driving, this problem has occurred multiple times and at speeds around 30mph. I started trying to get this fixed by a dealership in December of 2023. It went in and out a couple of times before they were able to replicate the problem. First they replaced the eme module and that worked for about 2000 miles before it started acting up again. Took it back to the same dealership in April when it started acting up. They updated the eme software and replaced a high voltage connector that was corroded. This repair took them until July 2nd. I went to pick up the car and made it about 3 blocks from the dealership it shut itself off on me. Took it back right away. They have had the car since then. Lastly I informed them about the most recent recall back on August 29th and it still shows as incomplete.

The fuel filling nozzle turns off repeatedly while trying to fill the fuel tank and spills out causing a safety and environmental hazard, regardless of the pump being used. As a result, no fuel goes into the gas tank, instead it goes all over the car and the ground.

Fuel tank causes gas pump to click off after dispensing a tenth gallon of gasoline. Gas spills from gas tank while removing pump creating a safety and environmental hazard. Fuel tank will not accept gas at pump. No warning lamps, messages, or symptoms were present prior to the failure. Mini Cooper dealership stated that service valve in tank has failed and entire fuel tank must be replaced.

Changed out the battery and now my windows and lights and locks are not working.

The fuse box jbe module has a quality assurance problem with a solder connection to the nec low pressure fuel relay. This is a known issue with BMW/Mini. The car suddenly stalls without warning. If the driver is not keen or if traffic patterns do not allow, the car can be left in very dangerous situations on the highway or in the middle of intersection. The repair for this problem is widely distributed online via blogs and youtube, but replacement modules are $1500 (part only) and these modules are not available until at least October 2023. There are no warning lights or other warnings prior to the incident. While I am not aware of any serious injuries, it is only a matter of time before someone is t-boned at an intersections. This part must be immediately recalled due to the safety risk. The images below show the jbe fuse box housing as well as the pcb where the cold solder joint can be seen. The problem was that the gas pedal began to stick. Suddenly it began to idle at 4000 rpm. I had to reach down and pull up the gas pedal while driving. I had it replaced a few weeks ago. Then I received a letter from Mini about a footwell control module. It sounds like a similar corrosion problem and it needs to be fixed as well. I had it looked at several times before it was fixed properly because a dirty throttle body can cause it to idle too fast.

The fuel pump relay circuit board has a failed point in the soldering, causing the car to intermittently stall and die on the road. My safety was at risk because my car died randomly with no warning on a busy road. Can not even limp car to side of road. The part is being replaced by dealer where car was purchased, but a quick internet search provides thousands of similar results. There were no warning lights or any kind of code stored in the computer. I only had the car for one day before the car died so I am not aware of any prior warning signs.

The high pressure fuel pump failed. There was a class action settlement and a warranty extension campaign for this part. Mini refused to warranty my vehicles h/p fuel pump stating it was only covered for 10 years or 120,000 miles. My vehicle only has 71,312 miles. I was informed by a local news source that manufacturers are required to honor the recall for 15 years per NHTSA, and that I should file a complaint. Please help. Thank you very much.

When refueling, nozzle kept shutting off, a gallon was pumped after nine attempts, also fuel erupted as the fill tube was filled with gas. Reluctant to drive this car not knowing how much gas is in the tank. The needle shows less than 1/4 and miles remaining fluctuates between 80 and 110 miles. We are told that this problem exists in many Mini automobiles, dealer has replacement gas tanks, but same problem exists parking our Mini, indication of "roll back" is possible when car is parked. Shifter unit was replaced due to torsion spring.

When refueling, fuel is rejected after dispensing about 1/8 us gallons, about 4 oz. Of course, fuel spills are a hazard - both in possibly of fire, and to the environment - by contaminating ground water. Dealer said that there are several solenoid operated valves and replaced fuel tank and fill pipe, a cost to me of $2400. 00. There are many reports of this on social media, one person suggested holding the fuel nozzle upside down which made a larger spill.

I can not put gas into my car. I have had the charcoal canister replaced. I am now being told that I need a new fuel tank. I’ve also been informed that this is a reoccurring problem in 2015 Mini Coopers.

Fuel tank shuts off the gas pump no matter how much gas is in the tank. Faulty fuel tank vent (purge) value is causing the issue. This is a known issue on Mini's. A voluntary recall has been issued for 2016 Mini's, but this problem is also happening on 2015 Mini's. Dealership as well as another auto service store has replicated the issue. Check engine light is lit up as well.

The vehicle has been presenting issues with breaks, electrical issues, turning off while driving, misfires, air bags don't work, adas sometimes don't work, the vehicle chokes and has difficulty running at times, among other issues. There has been a recall since last year and I've tried contacting the manufacturer multiple times, but the issue has not been fixed yet. All of these problems are a great safety hazard for me and my family while on the road.

Unable to fill gas as pump repeatedly shuts-off while trying to fill and would even over flow out of the filler neck. Tried 2 different pumps at local qt without luck. . Drove up to local phillips 66 with exact same issue. Found several other owner with similar issue and found the following service bulletin posted on "NHTSA": https://static. Nhtsa. Fuel tank did not allow me to input fuel. Pump clicked off immediately. Mini issued a service bulletin on the problem in 2015. I have been advised the entire fuel tank must be replaced, and have heard from other Mini owners this is a systemic problem. This car was maintained, by Mini and BMW authorized mechanics and only had oem parts installed and followed management of vehicle as directed by manufacturer, throughout its history. It was always driven and kept in moderate weather conditions, no extreme heat, cold, wet, or speeds. Used almost daily for 30-60 minute commutes. Just after 100k miles, total engine failure was suddenly experienced on the freeway, due to combustion in two valves, damaging two cylinders and sudden leaking of the exhaust system under the hood. The manufacturer, bwm, has been shown evidence of malfunctioning of the four cylinder engine and will not show evidence of their grounds for why they will not take responsibility.

When pressing the break, the engine revs. I turned on the car and pressed the break. The engine revved. When I pressed the brake again it revved up to 7000 rpm. I turned off the car. I did this several times and it continued to happen. I was afraid to put the car in gear. While driving down the road a month ago the Mini engine rpm raised and the car went faster even though I was not pressing the gas. I was able to stop it.

Repeated experiences of sudden engine operational failure and reduced and/or complete loss of power while driving. The engine malfunction indicator lamp comes on. Car stalls and stops in traffic on the highway and on streets blocking traffic. Will not start again until powered off for periods between 5-15 minutes if at all. -first experienced the issue February 2020 and have intermittently experienced the same issue ever since. -occurs when driving at a variety of speeds and a variety of fuel levels. -if diagnostics were able to reveal an issue both fuel pumps were noted as the cause on different occasions. The high pressure fuel pump has been the most diagnosed and repaired issue. -car has been diagnosed by the dealer and 3 independent service repair shops. Dealer stated no recall or existing issue that would cover this problem and have not received any notifications from the manufacture.

The vehicle was at a stop when the brake was released it lunged forward into oncoming traffic. Another time in driveway veh was bought to a stop in our driveway to turn around. The brake pedal was released and the car lunged into a wall and the tires continued to spin until brakes were heavily applied.

Takata recall: the warning light is always on the past 6 months saying my airbag on passenger side is not operational. Mini dealers want to charge me $145 plus to check if the airbag is defective. Don't they have to check this at no charge for me? I am very concerned for my passengers, but cannot afford to do this. Repair shop said rf seat occupancy sensor needs replacement. Cost $1082. Advised me to check with you if that is covered by Mini. Issue #2: had to replace all 4 faulty ignition coils. Serviced throttle body. Cost me many $$$$.

Handbrake harness not routed as designed. From the picture you can see the harness not inside the clip. This makes the handbrake harness short from point to point. Which will lead to my rear passenger side brake always on. And also, it will cause a serious safety issue if I want to use my handbrake to stop my vehicle. The force applied on passenger side is way more than drive side ( it was installed correctly ) . And it may lead my passenger side handbrake wiring harness broken ( because of the incorrect routing ) I found it out when my brake light in on. My front brake still working for another 1100 miles while my rear brake sensor tell me I need to change my brake . We change the rear passenger brake and found out its difficult to clip the handbrake wiring harness to right hole. Then we track the wiring done. It's shocks me . The routing is 100% incorrect. You can see the correct handbrake hole is empty.

2004 Mini Cooper purchased new aprox 62 miles on it and the cvt transmission is gone & there was a class action lawsuit for the replacement of this, I was never notified and want this fixed at no cost to me. At aprox. 50 to 60 mph the car engines goes way beyond the proper rpm.

I was driving down hwy 16 (a straight a way 2 lane hwy) towards woodland when the display showed what appeared to be the water icon and I noticed white smoke from under my hood, so I pulled over and sat there thinking maybe my car was overheating. A truck coming behind me went by honking their horn and I looked in review mirror and noticed dark smoke coming from behind my car. . I then proceed to get out of my vehicle and couldnt get the drivers door open a gentleman came up to my vehicle told me to get out but I told him the door wouldnt open, he opened the door and was saying get out and away the cars going to blow up, that was my first acknowledgment that the vehicle was on fire. The police and fire dept was notified and came out to where the vehicle was at and proceed to extinquish the vehicle. I had to get the car towed by triple a off a friends of mines tow package that she has. Im contacting the fire dept and police today on getting some paperwork related to this today so all I have to show is pics.

Excessive carbon build up on engine intake ports at 35k miles. Car purchased new, has oil changes by dealer every 5k miles, and is filled with 92 octane gas. Lots of people posted on internet over last 7-8 years that Minis are prone to this issue and BMW hasn't resolved it. When asked if this should be routine maintenance, if this was driving or fuel issues, dealer said none of the above. Yet resolving this issue is about a $600-1000k repair! this either needs to be a routine maintenance, recall or service bulletin put out to owners/dealers. BMW needs to own up to this issue.

After taking a off ramp from the interstate the car lost power and sputtered and jerked. Later the same day. After getting back on the interstate the car again sputtered, lost all power and I took the next exit I was afraid I was going to get ran over.

I drove an automatic 2013 certified Mini Cooper off the lot with 33k prior miles. After less than a week, and after only driving a total of 254 miles, the accelerator failed in the middle of an intersection. I did not loose all power, the gas pedal just quit responding while I was driving. All other systems in the car seemed fully responsive/operational with exception to the accelerator. The engine did not rev and the car did not respond to the accelerator even when it was pushed fully down. My car was manually pushed out of the intersection/traffic with help by the person behind me. After safely to the side of the road, I turned off the car. After about 5 minutes I restarted the car and the gas pedal was operational. The following day I drove the car back to the dealer without incident. They re-checked the certification items and were not able to diagnose the problem. Their error readers did not detect any codes. Perplexed- they sent the information to their technical engineering department. The engineers claim that it is a needed software update that caused the accelerator failure while the vehicle was in motion. The engineers are asking that the Mini service department update the software and drive a bit to test the vehicle. The situation that the needed software update caused is dangerous. I have seen posts from other Mini Cooper drivers who have/are experiencing this issue- yet there are no recalls or known service bulletins for the hazardous problem. I did notify Mini USA (corporate) of the accelerator failure. Notes: the car was very recently fully serviced/certified with no know problems, I had fuel, I was in drive, the car was in motion, I was attempting to make a left turn in a residential intersection, I was in the process of accelerating when the gas pedal failed to respond further- I was immobilized in the middle of an intersection.

2007 Mini Cooper hardtop purchased may 7, 2015 suffered major engine failure due to manufacturer defective timing chain & timing tensioner issues, resulting in loud ticking inside of the engine on the passenger side. . Estimates totaling up to $2400. 00 in repairs. . . . . Vehicle at this point is inoperable.
