1 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2009 Mini Cooper S Convertible

Failure Date: 08/01/2016

I recently purchased this vehicle. It currently has the air bag passenger seat on and it states that the airbag is off. I went to the dealer and they stated that this was a mayor recall to over 100,000 Mini coopers but mine was not one of them. This is a huge safety issue since the seat sensor is not working properly and this therefore does not activate the airbag. If there were an accident the passenger airbag would not eject. This is a problem on 100,000 and my vehicle has the problem but it is not under the recall. What do I need to do? who is liable for this issue which obviously is an existing problem for the brand??? nothing has happened but if it were to happen, who would be liable? I want to make sure that I am on record on this.

3 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2006 Mini Cooper S Convertible

Failure Date: 04/01/2014

Our 2006 Mini cooper air bag sensor goes on and off. The dealership indicated the entire seat would need to be replaced as is an embedded sensor. This does appear to be a safety issue but the vehicle is not one of the recalled Mini coopers.

6 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2005 Mini Cooper S Convertible

Failure Date: 10/26/2012

Airbag warning lamp illuminates intermittently in dash and passenger airbag "off" illuminates above rear view mirror in my 2005 Mini Cooper S Convertible. When some sits in the seat it comes on intermittently. When you check the connectors under the seat it goes off with wiggling. Diagnosed by Mini cooper dealership as "cracked seat occupancy sensor" inside the seat. Not repairable only replaceable. Airbag will not go off if passenger in the seat. Mini cooper has covered this for other models, but my car is not covered. Incurring me a $1600 quote for make my car safe for passengers.

7 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2005 Mini Cooper S Convertible

Failure Date: 05/01/2012

Airbag sensor light is on, indicating a problem with the passenger airbag. This is a common problem with Minis and certain bmws. Mini has voluntarily repaired the defect in some vehicles but is refusing to repair others. Mini told me to take it to a dealer, pay for a diagnostic and they'd think about a repair. I have no faith in their willingness to provide a repair since ether have refused the repair repeatedly to other consumers. This is a common safety issue, and appears to clearly be a defect rather than an expected wearing out of the vehicle.

8 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2007 Mini Cooper S Convertible

Failure Date: 04/04/2012

The passenger air bag disabled light came on while there was an adult male (198 lbs) in the passenger seat. The light remained lit whether someone was in the passenger seat or not indicating the system was disabled at all times. The proper functioning of the seatbelt tensioning system is controlled via this safety system which meant that it was disabled as well. The problem was diagnosed by a Mini service provider (dealer where car was purchased as new) as a faulty passenger occupancy sensor located in the seat base and was repaired as vehicle was still under warranty. Exactly two years and 3 months later the same problem has reoccured but because the replacement sensor is warrantied for only two years from installation I was informed the cost to fix the same problem would be $1400. 00. This same problem occurred with the BMW 3,4 & 5 series and was handled by a recall but BMW (Mini parent company) has not addressed the same fault with their Mini cooper line.

9 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2006 Mini Cooper S Convertible

Failure Date: 02/24/2012

My 2006 Mini cooper s has a defective passenger seat air bag sensor, I was quoted $1200 to replace it. This is the exact same part that BMW recalled in 2008. BMW recalled around 150,000 vehicles in north America to fix a possible defect that may keep the front passenger airbag from opening in a crash, the recalled cars include 2006 3-series, 2004-06 5-series and 2004-06 x3 vehicles. Mini uses this same recalled part being made by BMW, yet has not recalled the part. I know many people that have had this part replaced at there own expense several times. It is a huge safety hazard. BMW recall information. . . Manufacturer: BMW of north America, llc, model year: 2004, 2005,2006, models affected:3 series, 5 series, x3, NHTSA campaign number: 08v384000, potential units affected: 200000,.

10 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2007 Mini Cooper S Convertible

Failure Date: 02/20/2012

Passenger air bag disabled lights (dash and above rear view mirror) are on indicating no passenger is present (thus disabling the passenger air bag system) even when an individual is occupying the seat. I purchased the car new and bought the supplemental BMW warranty which I was told extended the supplied warranty from 4 years/50,000 miles to to 6 years/100,000 miles and covered the entire vehicle but when the problem was diagnosed I was told it was not covered by the warranty. And the prior year model of Mini (2006) did have the same problem addressed and the warranty extended to 10 years relating to the same sensor failing.

11 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2008 Mini Cooper S Convertible

Failure Date: 02/01/2012

My passenger side seat, which has a weight-sensor to determine air-bag operation (on/off, full force, partial force) is faulty, and with a 110 lb person seated in there, the sensor still believes the person weighs below 25 lbs, and as such, disables the airbag. This is concerning to me as I drive with a passenger much of the time, and most of the time the airbag is disabled. This seems like a safety-recall issue to me. I have also done much research through the vehicle make forums scattered through the internet and found that this issue exists on many other vehicles of the same generation. Thank you.
