4 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2007 Mitsubishi Eclipse

Failure Date: 05/31/2016

My car was stolen last year by someone I knew, and was wrecked. After the wreck, myself and pennsylvania state police spoke to the person and he said the accident was caused because the brakes failed to engage as he was making a turn and the right lower control arm failed, which caused the tie rod to snap which punctured through the wheel and out the tire. Damage done to the vehicle confirms this, and I have pictures and documentation to support this claim. Car was left on the side of the road with entire front right suspension detached, cv shaft ripped out from the manual transmission, entire front right wheel hub assembly was ripped off, caliper, brake pads and rotor remained attached to the hub, but were disconnected from the vehicle. The wheel also remained intact on the hub. There was significant front end damage to the bumper, fender, inner wheel hub splash guards, headlight, etc. Air bags did not deploy. His seat belt did not lock on impact. Car was totaled and considered salvage, but I reconstructed it and have over $4,500 invested in repairs that could have been avoided if the brakes and lower control arm worked properly. He was traveling on a side street through a small town around 11pm on a clear, warm night. No other moving cars were on the road at the time, but he did side swipe several parked cars.

Dash above the passenger side air bag is raised at least 3-5 inches. Not in the groove where it should be. Would think this is a safety hazard as an airbag will not deploy properly if in an accident. Mitsubishi needs to repair this for customers.

14 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2009 Mitsubishi Eclipse

Failure Date: 08/05/2014

There has been no incident yet. However if this vehicle gets in an accident the passenger airbag will absolutely not deploy correctly. The dash pad in front of the air bag has come unglued and is blocking the deployment of the airbag if it were to deploy. This dash pad is sticking up 4 inches in front of right dash airbag. These should be replaced on all affected units. I have seen other brands dash pads lift around defrost holes, especially gm in the 90s, this is the first I have seen where if the pad starts lifting it will block the airbag. This is not an uncommon problem with padded dashes ( essentially a poly foam glued to plastic with a vinyl overlay glued to it) when the foam starts to deteriorate it turns to powder and comes loose/lifts.

My airbags did not deploy. The front of my car was crushed I was diagnosed with a cervical sprain. My Eclipse was declared "a total loss" by my insurance company. I am very concerned since my other car that my wife drives with my 2 young children is also a Mitsubishi. When I called Mitsubishi for a name and address of someone that I could correspond with, I was transferred to 3 different people and was told to send my letter to their general customer service po box. 23 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2001 Mitsubishi Eclipse

Failure Date: 02/04/2006

My sons 2001 Mitsubishi Eclipse hydroplaned on a standing puddle of water on us 50. He lost control of the car and hit the guard rail twice on the front and rear of the car. The insurance company totaled the car because of the excessive damage to front and back. My concern and complaint is that the air bags did not deploy. The car took such a major impact to the front end that I can see no reason for the air bags not to deploy other then being defective. I have pictures of the vehicle if you need to see the damage. The maryland state police report number is 0659001409. The state farm insurance company can be reached at 1-888-613-3966 ext. 33, claim # 205999079. VIN number of the car is 4a3ac54h71e084277. My position is that other 2001 Mitsubishi Eclipse should be checked for faulty air bag systems.

31 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2003 Mitsubishi Eclipse

Failure Date: 05/31/2003

My daughter was driving approximately 65 mph in her 2003 Mitsubishi Eclipse when she was in a head on collision hitting a cement guardrail when the air bags did not deploy, front or side. Car had in excess of $4,000 damage to the front end, engine, frame, etc. And had to be rebuilt. All my efforts to contact Mitsubishi for someone to check out the air bag default were not successful. I even filed a complaint with them and was given a file number and sent a pamphlet on the safety of air bags. After the car was completely repaired the air bag light went on which allowed the collision repair shop to get Mitsubishi involved to check the system. In their inspection report they found a connector unplugged at srs ecu and also 11783 harness at outside temp. Sensor cut, needs engine harness and a part of wiring harness that is hanging down in the l/f, advise where it is suppose to go. In this report it was also stated that the most likely reason the air bags did not deploy was the car was not in a head on collision it was a front end accident. This is totally incorrect. Fortunately, her injuries were not life threatening as she suffered a severe body wipe lashe. After doctor's visits mri, pain medication and massage therapy, she is still in pain. Medical bills are in excess of $10,000. And I am still seeking a treatment to help her pain. I don't want the car - I want Mitsubishi to take the car back. Also, compensate me for their lack of responsibility and involvement when clearly this cars safety failure has proven to have put my daughter life in danger. I am very certain that if anyone else was in the car - major injuries would not have spared everyone. This is Mitsubishi and the manufacturers error one to this point they have chosen to ignore as I have not gotten any indication they are willing to cooperate. The car has not been driven since its' repairs. I have a file and pictures that unquestionable show this vehicle was in a head on collision.
