2 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2003 Mitsubishi Eclipse

Failure Date: 10/29/2016

Takata recall: my vehicle is involved in the NHTSA campaign number 15v338000. On October 29, 2016, I was driving towards my home. After being in the stopped position for the duration of the left turn signal at the intersection of fm 518 and fm 1128 in pearland, texas, the light turned green and I proceeded down 1128 toward my home. After proceeding about1 block, my passenger airbag suddenly deployed. There was no passenger in my vehicle and nothing on the passenger seat, either. There were no other cars on the road. I had the windows open and the top down. The airbag was blowing in front of my face, blocking my vision. The passenger visor flew off, hitting my left arm, as I was trying to keep the airbag out of my face to get safely off the road. I pulled over to the right, into a parking lot. My vehicle stopped on the edge of a ditch at the side of the parking lot, due to my vision being blocked. My driver side airbag went off when I hit the culvert of the ditch. Fire came out of my steering wheel and I smelled chemicals. The fire promptly went out. My left arm was on the armrest of the door with both forearm bones visibly broken. The arm was swollen and deformed. I only had the vehicle 26 days. I was taken to the nearest trauma unit. The radia and ulna in my forearm have been put back together with rods and screws. My vehicle has major damage to the front end, radiator, transmission, steering, axle, etc. 9 months later my armis not healed and I am still without a vehicle.

3 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2003 Mitsubishi Eclipse

Failure Date: 10/10/2016

The contact owns a 2003 Mitsubishi Eclipse spyder. While driving approximately 15 mph, the passenger side air bag deployed without warning or impact. When the air bag deployed, the visor on the vehicle detached. The vehicle's top was down at the time and caused the passenger side air bag to blow in the wind, which hindered the contact's view of the road. The contact attempted to pull the vehicle over but, due to the distraction of the air bag blowing, the contact struck a culvert, which caused the vehicle to stop and the driver side air bag to deploy. When the air bag deployed, it released a small spark and there was a burning odor. The vehicle was towed to a aaa transmission approved shop who stated that the vehicle needed several repairs. The contact broke several bones in her left hand through the forearm. Medical attention was needed. A police report was filed. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 135,000.

5 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2007 Mitsubishi Eclipse

Failure Date: 01/01/2016

I have a 2007 Mitsubishi eclipes GS. That has over 160,000 miles. For the last 9 months or even longer my husband has to push the passenger side dash board down where the airbag is to cover it back. No, I haven't took it to a dealer yet, I figure with the warranty off of the car, the dealer ship would say I have to pay to fix it. I have no money to fix it. So, I'm hoping that someone will read this and tell me that there is a recall on it so, it can be fixed the right way. I hope the passenger side airbag(dash board) works incase of a accident. I'm planning on calling the dealer ship Monday 10/24/2016 to get more information on the problem.

6 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2009 Mitsubishi Eclipse

Failure Date: 06/19/2015

Dash pad in vehicle has come apart, completely blocking passenger side airbag. The dash pad is sticking up at least 3 inches in front of airbag. If airbag does deploy ever it will not properly and could cause more harm to passenger and driver. When this first happened my car was only 4 years old. There are several reports online of this happening to these vehicles. I think all affected cars should be fixed, since it is a safety issue on pretty new cars.

The dealer said they fixed the problem by making an alignment, but the same things happened after 2 months and I went to the dealer about this issue about 4 times in 1 year and after that they told me we can't do anything if this problem kept occurring. So I stopped going until a week ago I was in crash because the car moved to the left of the street and I hit a wall.

16 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2002 Mitsubishi Eclipse

Failure Date: 10/04/2001

I am an employee of Mitsubishi motors manufacturing of America (mmma). On October 4, 2001 I was injured at work. I was hit in the head by the seat belt guide on the front passenger (right) seat of a 2002 Mitsubishi spyder convertible. The seat hit me with considerable force causing a mild concussion. I did not black out at the time of the injury. However, I experienced blurred vision (which continued for a few days), neck pain, back pain and severe head pain. A few weeks after the accident I started having "spells" as my neurologist calls them. I was given a prescription for anti-seizure medications. My neurologist restricted me from driving for 5 months. Anyway, my concern is if this can happen to an employee who works in the plant, it can happen to a consumer. And if one of these seats were to hit a child with the force it hit me it could be fatal. I can't identify the exact vehicle that caused my injury. I can tell you the date and the approximate time. If you feel this is worth investigating please feel free to contact me.

19 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2001 Mitsubishi Eclipse

Failure Date: 12/01/2000

Srs light for side air bags goes on all the time. Never turns off. From what I was told from my dealership at cutter Mitsubishi it's an electrical problem that needs to be replaced or else side air bags won't deploy in the case of an accident.

20 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2001 Mitsubishi Eclipse

Failure Date: 12/01/2000

Srs light has come on & off several times in the last 6000 miles the service department has replaced seats for the side airbags the light still comes on & off the car has recently been in a collision the front airbags did deploy before I picked up the car the shop manager said they have to change the duram? because the light was coming on & they had put the wrong one in for only front airbags? I still believe it's the same problem we had before the car was wrecked. The second complaint the wheels (rims) bend at every 2000 miles we even had a blow out at 10 miles an hour in town.

Driving at approximately 40mph, coming to a stop light and the vehicle ran into the back of another vehicle, driver's side airbag deployed, burning the driver's arm. Also the passanger's side airbag deployed and burned the sunvisor.

24 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2000 Mitsubishi Eclipse

Whenever vehicle has been started srs light would come on and remain on until vehicle has been shutdown. Sometimes srs would flash off/on. Had taken vehicle to dealership, and mechanic replaced passenger's seat back due to side air bag wiring being defective.

25 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2001 Mitsubishi Eclipse

Srs light is intermittent and it is taken in for service every time. The first couple of times the explanation was a bad ground and connector. Once the whole driver side seat was replaced because of recurrency of the srs light illuminating. Now a passenger side seat is on order to be replaced. Supposedly it is the same error code, but the code from the computer tells the technician to check the driverside side airbag, while the factory service manual states to check out the passenger side side airbag. At least this is what I have been told by the last technician to work on my vehicle.

26 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 1996 Mitsubishi Eclipse

Prior to expiration of warranty, driver side airbag was determined by dealership that airbag was defective because horn would not work. In January 2001 I had the car in for a head gasket and sked for the horn to be checked again and it was determined once again that the airbag was defective. I saw in the paper that Mitsubishi was recalling calls due to faulty airbags (2/01). I refuse to pay $600 for something that is defective a 2nd time and I feel unsafe driving the car.

27 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 1996 Mitsubishi Eclipse

The passenger's side airbag has a rattle from within the module. The dealer was unable to identify what the cause of the rattle is. I'm afraid that either the airbag won't properly deploy (like many other complaints) or that a projectile will accompany the deployment of the airbag and injure, or possibly kill, the passenger. Dealer doesn't want to replace the module at no charge.

28 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 1996 Mitsubishi Eclipse

Vehicle rear endeded another vehicle at about 35mph, and neither driver's side nor passenger's side airbags deployed. Driver suffered injury to head from steering wheel. Dealer has not seen vehicle.
