1 Tire Blowout problem of the 2006 Mitsubishi Eclipse

Failure Date: 11/27/2013

In November 2013 after driving in rainy conditions left rear eagle rsa failed as I was driving on the highway. No known cause of failure other then it just blew out all of the sudden. Tire was replaced about a week later with another eagle rsa. Last night (January 2014) was driving in snowy conditions and then got on the highway and all of the sudden again the tire blows but this time the opposite side of car but still the rear wheel. During this blow the car swerved momentarily but I was able to control the car and then I heard the noise indicating it had blown. In neither case was there an indication anything was wrong with the tire before it blew including the tread depth. Both tires had been on the car less than a year (car was bought Nov/ Dec 2012 and new tires were on the car when bought) and had little wear on the tread depth when they had blown.

2 Tire Blowout problem of the 2006 Mitsubishi Eclipse

Failure Date: 03/06/2012

I have goodyear eagle rs-a p35/45r18 tires on my Eclipse, the car has less than 30,000 miles on it. As I was driving to work front tire blew out due to the sidewall separating from the tread! I had no idea until a mechanic at my work looked at my other front tire and saw that it was starting to separate also! the tires still have half of their tread life remaining and it also caused for my rim to be scratched. In addition, it was noted that at some point the other front tire is going to blow out so at this point my car is a ticking time bomb.

3 Tire Blowout problem of the 1998 Mitsubishi Eclipse

Failure Date: 09/06/2010

On 9/6/2010 I got in my car and pulled out of my parking space. My car had been sitting all that day and the previous day. As I pulled out, heard a flop, flop noise, stopped my car, got out and looked around. The front right tire, a uniroyal long touring a/s, had completely blown out (not just gone flat). I replaced the tire with my spare. I looked over the blown tire and found a tear approx. 1-2 inches long on the inside of the tire, just below the tread. My father contacted the tire manufacturer, because my sister had the same model tire and had the same problem weeks earlier. My father was told we could get reimbursed for new tires if they were inspected by the dealer and found to be defective. Today, 9/8/2010, I took my car to a tire dealership and got the one tire replaced. The blown tire was found to be defective. An individual from that dealership contacted the manufacturer & was told to fill out a claim form so I could be reimbursed 60% of the new tire cost. The dealer kept my blown tire. I contacted the manufacturer about getting all new tires, because the others were found to be defective with cracks beginning. They said the tire I just paid for could not be covered because it was not an accepted brand, but four new tires that were of an accepted brand could be covered up to 60%. The tires have all been said to be defective by the dealership, however the manufacturer refuses to cover the full cost of replacement tires.

4 Tire Blowout problem of the 1996 Mitsubishi Eclipse

Failure Date: 12/07/2007

Driving on hwy. 80 on dry road at approx. 60-65 mph, in fast lane, car started to shake, as we pulled over to the side of freeway, tire blew out. . . Complete separation of belt from sidewalls, both side walls still on rim, belt (intact) rolled down freeway. Tires less than 1 year old, and lots of tread left on tire. This caused damaged to the rim which is no longer usable. We will have to replace the tire and rim, but thank god no one was hurt.

5 Tire Blowout problem of the 2006 Mitsubishi Eclipse

Failure Date: 07/04/2006

I was driving on I 95 in florida for about 12 miles when my rear passenger tire blew out. Apparently what happened was the side walls of the tire separated from the tread. This was a new 2006 Mitsubishi Eclipse with goodyear eagle rsa 17 inch tires. The tire had only 6700 miles. Thank god it was my rear tire and not my front, because actually nothing happened to me. If it was my front I would not be here writing this. When I went to goodyear they told me it was a blow out. If it would have been a blow out there would be no more tire. The tread was still intact, but the side wall just separated. Many people now have told me that this was a tire defect and not a blow out. Goodyear gave me a new tire at a discount.

8 Tire Blowout problem of the 2001 Mitsubishi Eclipse

I too have had several problems with rims and tires. I have had to replace 2 tires and 1 rim already. While driving my car now over 65 mph the steering wheel will shake. I am often scared to go over 50 due to that fact that I fear my tires will blow.

9 Tire Blowout problem of the 1996 Mitsubishi Eclipse

Failure Date: 12/09/2002

After coming from a stop at a stop light, reaching a speed of around 10 mph, heard loud pop (almost like tire blowing out), tried to pull off to side of road, which at that point all I heard was grinding (almost like riding on the rim), went to put vehicle into park and as I reached the parking gear a loud grinding noise came from engine, put hazards on because was out on a busy street and was unable to pull off, got out to find that front-right ball joint had became disconnected from the boot/tire, and tire was shoved up into wheel base, and as a result had to replace ball joint, control arm and front-right axel due to the fact that the ball joint disconnected from rest of car. Luckily no one was hurt because I was on regular road at a low speed. Dt.

13 Tire Blowout problem of the 2001 Mitsubishi Eclipse

Failure Date: 10/09/2001

The first week of buying the car I noticed a little scratch by the front drivers side tire. Then I started hearing little squeaking noises when I was reversing coming from the same left tire. Then I noticed the rim was bent I brought it to the dealer they said I was hitting curbs & road hazard. Months later the scratch at the bottom by the fog lights was getting bigger and deep the tire kept losing air and those springing sound noises I still heard. Make the long story short it is 2 years later the deep gashes from the left front tire is now all the wayaround the bottom of the fog lights almost reaching the midde. I went thru 2 tires no blow outs thank god 3 rims and one was a replacement the tire keeps leaking air there is nothing wrong with the right side of the car its all the left front. I spoke to the manufactuer of mitshubshi they are aware of this they said its not a safety issue . Don't blowouts happen due to bent rims? they noticed its only happening in certain states that certain states road conditions are bad. All states have potholes but when you are driving 15 mph, hit a pothole ,& your rim bends causing your tire to leak air something wrong. These rims are constantly bending but on my car it s only the left side. Its unsafe, because when I hit a potlhole it makes a loud banging noise even my brake pedal shakes. If I knew all these complaints I would of never bought this car now I know its not me but the way these cheap soft wheels were made something should be done about this its unsafe and the whole car shakes and steers to the left after hitting a pothole. I dont use my car alot mostly back and forth to work on a highway 15 miles one way. I am tired of purchasing rims at $300. 00 I pay enough for this car and for the money I pay I should have decent rims that can stand driving over a 15-30 mile an hour pothole. I had cars before this never had a dented rim . Something should be done about this there are even complaints on jdpower's website.

14 Tire Blowout problem of the 2000 Mitsubishi Eclipse

15 Tire Blowout problem of the 2000 Mitsubishi Eclipse

Failure Date: 12/27/1999

I was forced off the road while making a turn at an intersection, I struck the curb wth the right front wheel. The impact (at a low rate of speed) broke the rim and blew out the tire. There was also damage to the sub frame that has lead to alignment issues. At the time, I thought it was a freak incident until I recently heard of other cases involving rims. I had to pay for all th repairs out of my pocket. The dealer did not mention any problems with the wheels or offer o look into the situation.

17 Tire Blowout problem of the 1996 Mitsubishi Eclipse

Failure Date: 02/07/1996

Driver side front tire blew out, causing driver to lose control of vehicle, resulting in accident/injury.

18 Tire Blowout problem of the 1998 Mitsubishi Eclipse

Front tires suddenly lose inflation. First time it happened was less than a day after I bought the car new. The right front tire blewout while I was driving at freeway speed, causing considerable damage. The second time was five months later when the left front tire "fell off the rim" while I was driving on a city street. The third time was last night, 11 months later, when that same tire again fell off the rim. Proper inflation was maintained at all times. In fact, inflation of all tires had been checked only four days (six miles) earlier. Despite there being complaints of a similar nature in your database, Mitsubishi and goodyear both deny ever hearing of such problems, though Mitsubishi did settle a damage claim after the first incident and has provided free road service after the other two. The in-town flats are annoying. My biggest fear is that this may happen again someday when I am traveling at freeway speed. I count myself extremely lucky that I was not seriously injured in that incident. I have an appointment with the dealer to look at the car Dec. 28. I also left some of this information on your telephone voice mail. (dot number: m6pclnr317 tiresize: p215 50r17).
