I would like to report a defect of the rims on my Mitsubishi Eclipse gt 2000. I have owned the car for [4] years (original owner). I have replaced [3] rims and I am now about to replace a 4th. The rims bend easily while driving. On all instances the rims have bent in the course of normal city driving. Just recently, (last week) I noticed that the rim on the front passengers side, as in the other incidents) is bent. I do not recall hitting anything or doing anything unusual that would have caused the rim to bend. On the first three occasions when I took the car back to the dealer for service I complained that there had to be something wrong with the rims. I never received I satisfactory answer. I even requested that they change the rims, because I only had the car one week when the first rim was bent. I believe they are hazardous!.

Shortly after leaving home on the morning of 8/1/04 I became aware that my front left tire was flat. After replacing the wheel with its spare I went to the tire dealership where I purchased the tires so that they could repair the leak. They informed me that the leak was caused by a bent wheel rim. Two of my wheel rims were bent. I was aware of this problem but until that day neither rim was bad enough to cause an air leak. One of the rims had become bent since soon after I purchased the car in March of 2000. These are the '10 spoke' 17" aluminum alloy rims that come with the 2000 Eclipse gt. As far as I know, no single event caused the various bends to occur. Over a period of many months I believe the bends became progressively worse until this failure occured. As a result of the incident that occured on 8/1/04, I purchased two rims to replace the two bent rims. I have kept the old bent rims in storage.
My car started shaking at speeds of 15 to 20 mph and pulling hard to the right. When I took the car into the dealership they informed me that I must have "hit something at a fast speed because my rim was severly bent. Then they proceeded to tell me there were several other problems wrong. The car was almost at 48,000 miles. I paid out of pocket, simply taking their word for it. Then I kept losing air out of another tire on the opposite side. At this time I figured it was the tire that I purchased a few months earlier. I had the tech. Take a look at it and he showed me that there were several cracks in the rim which were allowing the air in the tire to leak. Once again I bought the car to the dealership where I had to spend another $230 to get a new rim. I have had several cars in my life and never once had to replace one rim let alone 2 and in a period of 2 months. I think someone needs to look into this. This is not only expensive but extremely dangerous. I think that the manufacturer should have a recall on these rims and refund the customers that had to pay out of pocket.

Contact states: while she was washing vehicle she noticed a crack in dashboard. Also, a crack in rim. She has not had any type of accident to cause these problems. She said that there was a film on the inside windshield. The film was probably moisture were it had rained.
The 17 inch rims on my 2001 Mitsubishi Eclipse spyder gt have become bent and disfigured from normal use, and I am seeking compensation from Mitsubishi motors of America pending the replacement of the rims.
While driving 35 mph, the vehicle hit a pot hole and the rear and passenger side rims bent. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection and the mechanic claimed that there was nothing that they could do. The tire blew out on two occasions. Once on the driver's side. Three bent rims. (the alluminum wheels were soft).
Bulge on front tire of 2003 Mitsubishi Eclipse gts. Tire is a goodyear rsa p215/50 r17. Less than 10,000 miles on tire when bulge appeared. Both Mitsubishi and goodyear blamed defect on me and offered no compensation. Also have two bent original rims on car. The rims and tires on the Eclipse have a poor history and safety rating.

Consumer stated that all four rims were bent, and front two tires leaked. The dealer in consumer's area closed down, and there was no contact with the manufacturer.
1. Normal driving conditions involving small potholes over which other cars received no damage 2. The alloy wheels of my car dent very easily resulting in numerous nicks and small dents. Two small potholes have left my wheels with large dents requiring wheel repair or replacement. 3. I had to leave my car in the shop for a few days and have the wheel sent away to be repaired. I am also currently driving on a significantly bent rim that will need to be repaired soon.
Hit a small pot hole in may of 2003, rim dented immediately. I was traveling about 48 mph when I hit it. Hit a small indenture in the road in may of 2004 and it bent another rim. Traveling at about 32 mph. Rims are too soft!!! had both rims replaced-- out of my own pocket.
6 blowouts 4 rims all on the front drivers side there are scratches all along the drivers side by the tire. The drivers side door doesn't align. This has been happening since the 2nd day I financed the car. And I found out that my strut was blown which may of caused all the scratches. Dealership said it was my fault but I have a picture to proof those scratches were there the 2nd day I had the car. I just had another blowout this morning about a foot away from entering the highway. Incident from 10/2001-to today.
When driving over a little bump in the road the front passenger rim bent. As a result, the tire was punctured. Please provide additional information.
Multiple bent wheels on my 2000 Mitsubishi Eclipse gt. I replaced one wheel in 2002. Three others bent in April 2004 and one immediately lost all tire pressure requiring me to change to the spare on a dangerous interstate roadside. Manufacturer wanted $500 per wheel to replace. I replaced all 4 wheels with aftermarket wheels of the same size and weight for half the price and have had no more bent wheels!.
The design of the manual transmission, the transmission synchros and the clutch mechanism has been faulty which causes the following parts to fail a lot earlier than any normal vehicle. - the clutch plate gets worn before time - the throw out bearing (tob) has a rattle - the clutch has a rattle - there is very hard gear shift into the 1st and 2nd gear. The 2nd gear is very hard, especially when its cold start. (that is not particularly cold at the end of the month of March in houston, texas) - it is also due to the "poor" synchronizers in the transmission box - this has been reported by a lot of Mitsubishi Eclipse gt v6 users for the 3rd generation I. E. 2000+ Mitsubishi Eclipse cars with a manual shift - this is due to substandard transmission and clutch quality from Mitsubishi.
While driving the driver heard a loud noise coming from the rear. Consumer was able to maintain control of the vehicle, and pulled over. Consumer noticed that the passenger rear rim was bent. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection. The mechanic informed consumer that the rim was cracked ,and needed to be replaced.
There have been at least 3 instances in which the rims on my 2001 Mitsubishi Eclipse have broken or dented due to driving over minor bumps in the road or small potholes. This has resulted in my loss of control of the car in one instance, and could have potentially been an extremely dangerous situation. I have replaced my rims and tires twice because of this issue.
Two front rims have bent and split and have caused the tire to loose seal and tire to wear unnaturally. I had to replace the two rims and two tires.
When driving over an imperfection in the road (about 1 1/2 inches in depth) the right rim bent.
Ea 02- 007/aluminum alloy wheel denting: consumer was concerned that the original rims were denting prematurely when driving over pot holes. Dealer was notified.
Rims bend easily. Had four occurances of bent rims that cause tires to go flat. Most recently hit a pot hole and bent rim and caused tire to go flat.
While driving 30 mph consumer drove into a pot hole which caused all four rims to bend. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who was unable to resolve the problem. When the rims bent the tires deflated.
Front passenger side rim dented easily. As a result, consumer was forced to replace the part because of a concern for a possible tire blowout.
Consumer states that three of the rims were bent.
Bent wheel rims on a 2000 Mitsubishi Eclipse which were caused by typical driving over normal roads. One wheel now fails to hold air pressure and needs to be replaced at a cost of approximately. $250 for a reconditioned unit. I am filing this claim because the damage was not caused by large potholes or serious impacts, and no tire damage occurred.
Tire lost inflation during highway driving, due to a bent wheel. I did not realize I had a bent wheel, due to no memory of any significant incident regarding the tires and wheels. I was sent in a very rough ride after tire blew out due to the under-inflation. I was left out in the middle of binghamton and syracuse NY in the middle of nowhere. Mitsubishi diamond care service replaced with donut/spare. Bought new tires for my trip back and it happened again on highway. Police also helped locate my car for diamond care to send help.
Repeated rim damage that results in flat tires due the inferior rims on the 2002 Mitsubishi Eclipse I have asked Mitsubishi about the rims and they say there is not a problem. I have seen read of a class action suit specifically as a result of problems with the rims.
Two of my wheels on my 2000 mitusbishi Eclipse have significant bends on them from normal driving conditions. As a result of the wheels being bent it created uneven ware in my tires and brake rotors. I have had the two wheels straightened by a wheel shop on two occasions and paid $75 for each one.
Rims bend for no apparent reason causing tires to blow out, fall off rims, lose air pressure and create unsafe and dangerous driving condition.
I've owned my 2001 Eclipse gt spyder for a yesr and a half now and I've been having ongoing trouble with the rims bending. In fact when I bought the car there was a bend in the front rim that I made the dealer aware of and they sent the car out to have it fixed. I wish I had taken that as an omen and steered clear of buying the car. I've been driving these new england roads and highways for 15 years now and have never seen a rim bend so easy.
Rim bent easily after hitting pothole.
I read the news story on the website for 7 on your side about the defectiveness of the metal alloy rims for the '1997 through 2001 Mitsubishi Eclipse rims and wanted to go on record with you as having problems with the same rims on my Eclipse. Not only are they a cause of much headache and financial drain ion thier owners but also they are a safety hazard and this should be rectified.
Damaged alloy wheels on Mitsubishi Eclipse spyder (17 inch, 6 spoke). I read the postings from last year tonight on your site after I had my second experience with this problem. Last winter I hit a pothole and it completely split my rim. The vehicle maintained stability and I was able to limp back home (about a half mile) but the rim was cracked all the way to the spokes from the lip. Tonight (snowstorm in va/DC area) my wife dropped me off at the office and went shopping. On her way to pick me up the tire suddenly went flat. She was able to limp into a service station where she noticed the tire would not hold air so she had to change the tire in snow/ice/freezing temperatures. Upon further investigation, there were three large dents in the rim at the lip. This is the second rim I am going to have to replace and they are not cheap (about $350 each). I know they said the investigation was closed, but is there something that can be done about this. There is obviously a flaw in the manufacturing of this wheel.
I was driving down the road two separate times now when I have hit potholes that resulted in a bend in my rim. The first time all the air was let out due to it breaking the seal on the tire. I was left stranded for several hours before help arrived to help me in the middle of the winter. The second time was about a week ago when I hit a pothole and now the air slowly leaks out everyday and before I can go anywhere I must reair my tire. I bought a replacement rim the first time since they said it was unrepairable. This time I am filing a complaint with my city since it is the same pothole again that they didn't correctly fix the first time. I will have to purchase a new rim again since they say it can't be fixed since they are allunium rims. I have the 6 spoke rim that came standard on the 2001 Eclipse.
