1 Brakes Failed problem of the 2001 Mitsubishi Montero

Failure Date: 05/01/2020

The brake booster accumulator is leaking so it makes a 'chirping' sound from the left side of the vehicle. This is a recognized fault with this vehicle and a recall was issued I did not get notification of the recall so did not get it fixed. It has now become a problem which I am told could cause the brakes to fail, obviously a serious safety issue. I have spoken to Mitsubishi and they will not honor the recall.

4 Brakes Failed problem of the 2001 Mitsubishi Montero

Failure Date: 11/15/2013

Recall on abs accumulator was performed years ago. Brakes once again failed almost completely with wife and 3 children. Luckily she remembered the parking brake and was able to stop. New accumulator replaced and brakes were again fine for 3 days. . . Complete failure again. Dealer informs us that the entire abs assembly needs replaced at a total cost and labor of around (between) $2800. And $3600. 00. The recalled part (the accumulator) I am finding is a direct result of the entire abs assembly damage. If the pump tries and continues to try and fill the leaking accumulator the pump fails. As a result the pump and abs control (brain) module are all in one and the entire assembly needs to be replaced. What recourse do we have? how can we get Mitsubishi to replace this defective "complete assembly" the vehicle is now useless as we save our pennies and scrape together what we can to fix a problem that we nor anyone else should have to fix. I see many reports of accidents due to this very problem. Please help!.

6 Brakes Failed problem of the 2002 Mitsubishi Montero

Failure Date: 02/14/2011

My 2002 Mitsubishi Montero hydraulic accumulator was repaired due to the recall of the part. The hydraulic brake accumulator was recalled because it can result in a leak of nitrogen gas from the accumulator . A couple days ago on my way to work my brakes failed me once again as I was in a school zone full of children and approaching train tracks this time it was because I have a gas leak in my power booster which occured from the accumulator which was the part that was recalled by Mitsubishi. I contacted Mitsubishi to be told that it will not be repaired by them even though I could have killed myself or someone's child. Knowing that the same problem will occur with a diiferent part in results of the part that was recalled Mitsubishi should have recalled the entire abs system not just the accumulator. Crash could have still happened, and death could have still happened,. Now I have to replace my whole entire abs system and the system itself cost $1500 dollars not including labor. I do not have money like that to repair my vehicle when it was not wear and tare of the vehicle but was caused by their failure abs system. Nothing have been done to repair my truck.

8 Brakes Failed problem of the 2001 Mitsubishi Montero

Failure Date: 07/15/2010

I had a total brake failure of my 2001 Mitsubishi Montero, found out there is a recall on them, yet Mitsubishi will not honor it!. Here is recall. My cost to repair it is $1300. 00 I think Mitsubishi should foot cost! <recall>Aug 03, 2001 | recall id# 271 recall reason service brakes, hydraulic:power assist:vacuum recall date Aug 03, 2001 model affected Montero potential units affected 39020 recall summary vehicle description: sport utility vehicles. The accumulator that is installed on the hydraulic brake booster may have been improperly manufactured. Over a period of time, this could result in leakage of the pressurized nitrogen gas from inside the accumulator. Consequence the loss of this gas pressure could result in an abnormal noise from the left side of the dash panel when the brakes are applied, and possibly a delayed first time brake boost assist after the vehicle has been parked for a period of time, which could result in a vehicle crash. Remedy dealers will install an improved accumulator. Owner notification mailing began October 1, 2001. Owners who take their vehicles to an authorized dealer on an agreed upon service date and do not receive the free remedy within a reasonable time should contact Mitsubishi at 1-800-222-0037.

9 Brakes Failed problem of the 2001 Mitsubishi Montero

Failure Date: 07/09/2008

My 2001 Mitsubishi Montero (full size xls) is making loud sounds when I apply the brakes. I understand that there was a recall on the hydraulic brakes booster accumulator. When the car was still very new this recall was conducted and my vehicle was "fixed" according to dealer records. Now I am having the same problem again and the dealer and Mitsubishi motors say it is my problem now. If their recall does not work then they should be liable, not me. This is a safety issue, other people have had their brake fail completely and not be able to stop because of this issue. Mitsubishi should have corrected this problem free of charge until they get it right, not just the first time! I will never buy Mitsubishi again! this consistent problem is putting peoples lives at risk.

13 Brakes Failed problem of the 2000 Mitsubishi Montero

Failure Date: 07/13/2000

On 7/13/00, while travelling on city street @ 25-30 mph & maintaining adequate distance ( at least 2 car lengths )from vehicle in front, driver of said vehicle stopped in lane ( at a green light )to avoid hitting cars in front of him that had stopped, I pressed down on my brakes & it failed to stop my vehicle. I pressed the pedal all the way to the floor (while bruising 3 toes on my right foot);was unable to stop, vehicle continued to roll into the back of the other vehilce. Brakes definitely failed. Was recorded by police officer in his report and I was cited for the accident. I have reported the details of the accident to the dealer and to the national 800 # customer service failing brakes & possible concealed defect by Mitsubishi caused my accident. According to various articles in print and on tv, Mitsubishi has concealed defects for the past 20 years & its own government (japan) is investigating. When I discussed the defect articles & recall #'s to the mitsu rep. She claimed that those figures were incorrect & did not apply to vehicles exported to the us, even though the ap wire reports stated that more than 45,000 defected vehicles were sold in the us?!?!?! I have been driving for 36 years, accident-free, never even coming close to an accident, and then my brand-new mitsu has brake failure under emergency conditions & I have this accident that was not my fault. I do not drive recklessly, nor too close, always defensively & apparently trusting too much in the quality & integrity of my vehicle and the safety features that I paid for & presumed would be effective in times of crisis. Not the case! if the executives/management of Mitsubishi have concealed defects in their vehicles for the past 20 years, what's to say that the 2000 Montero sports aren't hiding something! I need some answers! I am contesting the citation with a hearing before the traffic court next month for it was not my fault! please contact me confirming your receipt & resolution. Thank you!!!.
