My 2001 Mitsubishi Montero is making load sounds when I apply the brakes. According to your site there was a recall on a part of my brakes. In 2001 when the car was still very new this recall was conducted and my vehicle was "fixed" according to dealer records. Now I am having the same problem again and the dealer and Mitsubishi motors say it is my problem now. If their recall does not work then they are liable, not me. This is a safety issue, other people have had their brake fail completely and not be able to stop because of this issue. Mitsubishi should have to fix this problem free of charge until they get it right, not just the first time! I will never buy Mitsubishi again and your agency should not allow this policy to further put peoples lives at risk.

He diagnosed the problem and told me I shouldn't drive it until it is repaired. He also said there was a recall, NHTSA id 01v254001. After calling my local Mitsubishi dealer I found out that my accumulator failure doesn't qualify for the recall. The recall dates were for build dates of June 2001 and earlier, (12/1999). 19 Power Assist Brake Vacuum problem of the 2001 Mitsubishi Montero

Failure Date: 07/09/2007

I am a second owner of a 2001 Mitsubishi Montero sport that I purchased from a Mitsubishi dealership. The original owner was notified of a recall for the service brakes, hydraulic foundation components and subsequently had the vehicle repaired in 2001. Two weeks the vehicle began having the same issue. It is my understanding from both Mitsubishi corporate offices and my local dealership that they are no longer responsible for the recall as they complied with the initial repair. The part has lasted only 6 years and is now defective again. Recalls should repairs should last longer and be covered for the life of the vehicle. It seems that the revised part was not properly corrected. There should be some obligation on the part of Mitsubishi motors to see that the parts that were re-manufactured under the recall to last a bit longer than six years. They apparently did not do any justice for the consumer.

I started my truck, put it in reverse and attempted to apply the brakes. There was a loud grinding sound and no brakes--just a dead pedal. I was able to stop the truck by applying the emergency brake--with only inches to spare before rolling through my garage. I had the truck towed to the dealership--they called to tell me the problem was with the accumulator. I checked on this website to see if their were any recalls--and found one (01v254001) that described the problem exactly. However, the dealership told me that my VIN was not included in this recall, that the replacement was my responsibility, and referred me to the manufacturer. The manufacturer was equally helpful. I wanted to report this to the NHTSA in case other vehicles in the recall year that aren't included in this recall are notified that this could be a problem. I feel really lucky that my kids (ages 3 1/2 and 6 months) weren't in the truck with me and that nobody was hurt.

However, when braking under wet, slick conditions or suddenly, the anti-lock feature did not seem to work, and the brakes felt as though they locked. 3) nothing has been done to correct the problem. I took my truck to a local garage the day that I discovered the noise. They told me that the abs system was faulty. I took my truck to the dealer, explained to them that a recall was in effect for the same model, but my VIN number was not included in the recall. I asked that my vehicle be repaired under the recall. The dealer refused. I have contacted Mitsubishi directly in an attempt to have my truck repaired as I am not financially able to incur the cost of the repair at this time. My truck is parked at this time as I have been advised that it is unsafe to drive.
