Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Mitsubishi Outlander based on all problems reported for the Outlander.
My 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander sel special edition was purchased in December 2022. In February 2024, the fuel pump went out the dealership said it was not a recall, however it was covered under my warranty. Now, March 2025, my fuel pump has went out again. This is the second time and the third fuel pump counting the original in the vehicle. Even though it’s covered by warranty, it is still not a recall? how can a fuel pump go out two times in three years?.

The car has severe rust on the frame to the point of the rust corroding a hole in the frame making it unsafe to drive. Black paint has been applied to conceal the extent of the rust, demonstrating clear intent to mislead and a disregard for human safety. The catalytic converter has been aftermarket welded into place and failing emissions. Other repairs needed cannot be done because the rust damage is to bad for mechanics to risk removing the bolts. Yes, the car is available for inspection. This dealership endangered my life, the lives of my loved ones and other drivers on the road with us by allowing us to drive a car with a damaged frame with could have caused a major accident. I took the car to my mechanic and the dealership's mechanic of choice and both said the car is unsafe to drive. The car was inspected by the peachtree Mitsubishi service center and for whatever their reason may be, they told us the car was in great condition. After driving the car for a couple of weeks, we noticed the fumes and a knocking noise under the car. Also, the check engine light was on and the peachtree Mitsubishi service center said it was the tire pressure. Despite my attempts to resolve this matter with the dealership directly, they have refused to take responsibility for their actions. I believe their practices violate consumer protection laws and pose a significant risk to public safety.

In the morning where I live for the last few days it has been below 0. The Outlander phev even when plugged in over night will start the gas engine and drive for about one minute until the gas engine shuts off and comes up with a message saying power reduced with a turtle symbol. When it does this you have no heat (hvac) the heated seats and heated steering wheel does not work as well as the front and rear defrost. The car speed seems to be limited to about 40mph. This issue is not news as many phev owners are dealing with the same issue, from my understanding Mitsubishi didn't install a battery warmer on the new generation Outlander phev however the prior generation Outlander phev did have a battery warmer and there were no issues with that model in cold climates. Your vehicle should always be a reliable source of heat when needed it doesn't seem to be very reliable in cold climates and it really is a hazard when it decides to reduce power with no warning.

1) 12/20/2024: took the car to a Mitsubishi dealer as the 'check engine light' was on for a few days. They erased the code but could not diagnose the cause. Returned home and could not charge the car using the same standard outlet (level 1) I used since I bought the car. The instrument cluster displayed the following (please see pic 1): a) error message 'phev system fault, service required'. B) check engine light. C) forward collision mitigation system [fcm] off warning light. D) rear automatic emergency braking [rear aeb] system off warning light. E) plug-in hybrid ev system warning light. Since 12/20/2024, I have been driving the car with these serious safety issues. 2) 1/2/2025: 'on-board charger' was replaced by the dealer. But the same error continued. Per dealer invoice, they "performed drive cycle pattern 3 and the code returned". Obviously under certain conditions, the erased code returned. 3) since mid-November, 2024, I have been noticing two different ev range mileage. Please see pic 2. My phone app showed (on 1/26/2025) a 51 mile ev range whereas the instrument cluster showed only a 39 mile range. All the errors still remain as of 1/26/2025. 4) opened a case with Mitsubishi but they are refusing to respond with updates. With so many safety issues due to 'phev system fault', I am afraid of taking the car out.

It sounds like its coming on and shutting off the fuel pump.
I am writing to express my dissatisfaction with the 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander that I financed through your bank. Since purchasing the vehicle brand new in 2022, I have encountered numerous issues that have caused significant inconvenience and concern for my safety. In the past two years, my vehicle has experienced multiple problems, including: 1. Randomly shutting off: last year, my car began randomly shutting off. The dealership attributed this to sensor issues and claimed it was due to me pumping gas while the car was on. Despite this explanation, the problem persisted, and the mechanic only reset the computer system without fixing the underlying issue. 2. Fuel pump issues: recently, on August 11, 2024, my car stopped working for several hours while I was with my daughter. I replaced the battery at a cost of $300, but the problem recurred the next day in traffic. After extensive delays and towing, the dealership identified a fuel pump issue, which is covered under the powertrain warranty but not the connecting parts, costing $1500 each. 3. Safety recalls: I discovered that the 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander has several recalls related to faulty fuel pump wiring. Although I was initially told my model was not affected, the dealership later confirmed the fuel pump issue. Additionally, the hood of my vehicle was not welded correctly, causing it to flutter and posing a safety hazard. Despite bringing my car to the dealership last year under the original warranty, no effective repairs were made. I have been without a reliable vehicle and have faced significant inconvenience and safety concerns. Given these ongoing issues and the lack of resolution, I am requesting a voluntary repossession of the vehicle. I believe this is the only viable option given the circumstances.
I took this car 2 times to the dealership about the same issue the steering wheel it has a lose parts inside keep giving a weird noise and the second issue the gas smell inside the cabin if you stop the vehicle on hot day and the ac running they are a very bad gas smell coming inside the cabin throw the ac vents I looked on this issue online alot of people have this issue dealership said can't smell nothing they don't want to put the work in to this issue I need help please even last night we smelled it its very bad alot they said on line other people that the gas tank vents on hot day the vent out the gas and its get in to the ac thats why we smell it but when you are driving you dont smell nothing but if you stop and keep the car running come back it will be inside the cabin full of gas smell coming from the vents I have a disabled son I can't keep going throw this issue and some people said that Mitsubishi know about it and they are working on it to fix I can't breath no more gas.
Multiple and random cylinder misfires. Fixed more than three times and continuously, same issue. Many issues with revving up. Safety risk while driving due to stalling.

Warning reduced power engine sign came on out of no where. This is the second time this shows up on my dash. . Plugged computer to it and shows code p0404 egr valve stuck. . Mileage at only 10,000.
Apparently the fuel system (fuel canister, fuel dispender, fuel vapor valves). It caused fuel, gasoline, odor to enter inside the vehicle cabin, causing dizziness and nausea to me, my wife and two kids. The problem was confirmed by the dealer. They try to fix it on 3 different occasions without sucess. As of today they requested the vehicle as they recognized is a safety issue and handed my a temporary vehicle. They told me that the repair date is indefinite as the parts doesn't exist in the us, and was order directly to the manufacturer (outside of us). I have knowledge about other persons that are experimenting the same problem.
The fuel pump is failing causing the car to shut down randomly.

Since may 2023, I've been to two different dealerships with the same issue. It started with a whistling sound form air vents, buring smell, increased has consumption, loss of power going up hill, gas smell inside cabin, no air, loud noise from right side of car under hood, and engine malfunction warning. Finally, 12/12/23 the car, without warning, instantly stalled, shut-off in traffic. Several vehicles behind me had to swerve to avoid rear end collision at it was it happened in front of a school with heavy traffic! the car would not restart and had to be towed to dealership. I contacted Mitsubishi corporate office in Aug/sept, and was assigned bernedette, who, constantly confused and incoherent, dismissed my complaints as dealerships wouldn't fix bc Mitsubishi wouldn't reimburse. She stated if there was no code, the car could not be fixed! in total, both dealerships have had my car for 30 days or more. Currently, edwards Mitsubishi, has had my car since 12/11 as back ordered part was hard to obtain. I want to go to mediation for lemon law in IA, as this car poses a serious threat to myself and other drivers. Mitsubishi is negligent and duplicitous by issuing erroneous and loose guidelines regarding repairs/recalls when vehicles owners present with problems known to Mitsubishi, especially 2022 Outlanders having fuel pump issues. I still can not get any assistance on the shaking hood!!!!.
The car started using more fuel, hesitatingly, slipping gears wouldn’t go in gear, died while driving.

I have a 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander that I purchased July 26, 2023, from ciocca Subaru of philadelphia with a 100,000 mile/24-month dealership warranty, an extended warranty in addition to the manufacturer's warranty, ciocca dealership promise warranty, tire warranty , service, and collision care program warranties. The control arm broke as I was coasting in the parking lot of the supermarket on Wednesday, November 22nd, right before thanksgiving. I was told on Friday by the ciocca Subaru dealer of purchase that the repairs had to be completed at a Mitsubishi dealer, and told that it would not be covered in any of the warranties. Previous Mitsubishi Outlander's have had faulty/recalled control arms also. The vehicle was towed to montgomeryville Mitsubishi at 1011 bethlehem pike, montgomeryville, pa18936. To date, no one has looked at or egun repair and they refuse to provide a loaner vehicle. In the 4 months that I have had the vehicle, it seems that the fuel system is faulty also. The car will cut off when the vehicle shows 60 miles of gas remaining in the vehicle, which the vehicle is not on e (empty).
The car just did not start the morning I was headed to work. I had someone inspect my vehicle as I was unsure why is just randomly stopped working it has not been inspected by the manufacturer I did not get no warning of some sort it just didn’t start one morning.

We (driver and passenger) were pulling into a parking lot and going very slowly about to stop and get out of car. Suddenly and unexpectedly the car accelerated out of control and at an abnormal speed. The air bags deployed, smoke filled the cabin. After the police arrived and the car was towed, liberty mutual insurance company took title to the car. We were lucky to survive because the car ran into a cement wall from the sudden acceleration and went up into the trees and then backed down and hit the ground. There was a police report and the car was inspected by a manufacturer's representative. Earlier in the day there was a warning on the dashboard that said the vehicle needed maintenance. The "black box" of the car was analyzed by bosche CO. But, we would like an independent agency to review the black box of the car and get an explanation as to why this possibly happened to us. The car has many safety features but nothing aided us in this particular instance.
While accelerating the gas gage goes up but there is resistance when pressing on gas. The vehicle does not accelerate right away and there is a drag before the vehicle gets up to speed. It takes off really slow.

I can not express how disappointed I am with this car. You cannot use the review camera as the screen goes black or freezes. You cannot put the visor down as you will not be able to see out the windshield. If you go to push the gas the car stutters and sometimes shuts off completely. I bought my car brand new with 200 miles on it and after 6 months of driving it they told me my tires needed to be replaced because they were dangerous. After taking it into the dealership several times I was told that's just how the car is. The first chance I get I am trading this car and getting something else, and I will never purchase from them again. They have no pride in their cars at all and it will end up getting someone killed.
Won't shift gears, hesitates while driving, won't drive after stopping. Check engine light and transmission service warning light is on.
Upon idling this vehicle reeks of fresh fuel. It has been reported to the dealer and they have re-produced the problem. However, they do not know what is causing it. I am worried about the smell of gasoline in my car. I am worried about the car combusting and I am worried about respiratory problems or health issues that may result from the constant exposure of fuel or gasoline fumes . The dealer is reporting to me that corporate office has been notified and is working on a solution however, they do not tell me what the solution is or if they can even identify the problem. I am only told that I am on a waiting list for a repair, and that many people are complaining of this problem. Where I live in yuma arizona, the summers get to 114°, and while this may exacerbate the issue it is not the cause and the smell of raw gas can be noted even in the winter months. I first had the vehicle into the dealership on July 2022 for this problem. This is an ongoing, unresolved problem, and I am worried about my safety as well as the safety of others . When I first noticed the problem and brought the vehicle in, I received paperwork documenting the problem and the service report. The service department will no longer provide me paperwork proving I was there for a repair. They understand that this could be applicable to the lemon law.
The first incident happened prior to knowing about the fuel pump recall. My 16 year old was driving home with other 3 younger children and the vehicle just stopped driving while they were on the interstate. Thankfully he handled the situation well and was able to coast to the shoulder safely. At only 16 and a new driver, things could have gone very badly. I never dreamed my children would be in such a dangerous situation in my brand new vehicle. The vehicle would not do anything. I could not even lock the doors. It had to be drug onto a wrecker truck because everything was locked up. It was this incident that I learned about the recall. We had no vehicle for 4 days but the problem was “fixed”. Then a month later I was driving on the interstate and the vehicle just stopped driving again! it again completely locked up and nothing worked and had to be drug onto a wrecker. I went another few days with no vehicle and the dealership said they could not find anything. They suggested that I not let the gas go below 100 miles to empty that they thought the angle of the fuel line or something might be the issue. It’s scary driving knowing it could stop at any moment with no warning. I live in louisiana and I drive the causeway often. It’s the longest bridge over a body of water in the world. No shoulders, no way off. Just 24 miles over a lake. I’m scared to death every time I get on it. And after the last incident my hud and some other electrical things are no longer working. I have an appointment next week to have those things looked at.
Two issues: 1: since the purchase of the vehicle the hood would bounce up and down while on the highway. The service team acknowledged this was a known issue and advised they would resolve. It has been 3 month with no resolution. 2: when the gas mileage drops below 30 miles left to empty the display changes to “—“ and no longer comunicates mileage left to empty.
I received a recall in April 2022 for a fuel pump. I have been in and called 2 different Mitsubishi dealerships over 25 times to get this recall resolved. Each time they say they are out of the part and I was put on 2 different list to be called once they get the part. They keep telling me the parts are on back order. I feel that if they have a recall it shouldn’t take now it’s been 10 months for the dealerships to get the parts to have this fixed. I have to drive my car to go to work and doctor appointments, so it not being fixed it puts my life and anyone around me in danger if the fuel pump just stalls.
I have had a recall on my SUV since March 2022. Every time I call matt blat Mitsubishi they tell me they haven’t received parts yet. So I called Mitsubishi motors and was given a case number of 02621691 and was told a guy named caesar would be calling me. He never has. So here I sit wanting my brand new car fixed and I’m being told it can’t be done cuz no parts but the lady at Mitsubishi told me the parts were released months ago.
Back in October 2021 the vehicle in question stopped functioning while driving with our 12 year old and 10 months old baby in the back seat, a warning of engine malfunction showed up on the dashboard almost causing an accident. The vehicle was towed to the dealership and after a few days they didn't find anything. 5 months later and 7000 miles later we received the safety recall letter for what we believe is the same issue we had last year. In addition and after many calls an a few visits to the dealership they haven't been able to address nor fix the fluttering in the hood and rear bumper which we consider is really dangerous. Is Mitsubishi waiting for a tragedy to happen? they want us to drive this vehicle knowing that the engine may stall again and cause an accident.
Hood flutters.
The vehicle shows a check engine light after refueling. After some troubleshooting, I found that the issue is the cap-less fuel fill system. After some time, the check engine goes away. Or in some cases never does. This creates an issue because the vehicle does not remote start due to the present check engine light.
My transmission doesn't go into gear right away and doesn't drive right in automatic. If I switch it to manual and only go up to 5th gear it shifts fine. There was a transmission recall for same year make and model as mine. Those recalls happened around 80,000 miles. I have 84,000. I was previously told I needed either a fuel tank or fuel injectors, never got it diagnosed. My gas gauge reads full all the time even when I dont have gas.
Service engine light, slow emissions leak. It was at the gas cap. Rust around filler tube. Needed to remove rust so gas cap makes good deal. Slow accelerate with transmission and noise from lower control arm.
2015 Mitsubishi started sputterring while waiting for red light and hesitates when accelerating. Check engine came on. Looks like there are other similar complaints, but when I looked up the recall my vehicle is not included.
I was driving on I 75, me, 2 passengers and 7 animals deep. When out of no where my acceleration stopped and the rpms reved, the car started to slow down, I wasn't able to accelerate anymore. I costed to the side of the road and we were stuck. ! my cvt transmission is bad.
The mouth part where u put the fuel nozzle into ur vehicle is rusting very bad and I try to clean it out often but I'm still concerned that there are rusted pieces of metal still getting down into my actual gas tank. What can be done about this? I wouldn't think this piece would rust considering it's made to handle fuel.

My name is raymond, e-mail address is f14c@optonline. Net. I was at the victory Mitsubishi dealer for service on 7/20/19. I complaint about hesitation and reduce power when accelerating. I told them about the NHTSA campaign number: 16v563000 and Mitsubishii recall number sr-16-006 on this safety issue, they refused to entertain this potential risk because mmna did not list my VIN number as possible vehicle covered by this recall. They instead offered to charge me the throttle body cleaning and change the transmission fluid. I paid for the transmission fuel change at approximately 26. 600 miles in advance of the maintenance schedule. The car is still hesitating at various temperatures. I need this fixed!! and I would like an apology from the factory trained service technician that did not listen to my complaint!.

Has been happening for a few days now I try to start the car and it seems as it will fail me soon. I went to a mechanic and they told me it's a problem with the ignition or starter. It's a new car bought it brand new in 2017. I believe they should also recall the 2017 Mitsubishi Outlander sport. Also seat belts don't lock .
