We search our database for car models that have the worst trend in reliability improvement. Toyota Corolla came out on top of our list.

Drastic increase in total number of problems reported

Table 1 shows the total number of problems reported for Toyota Corolla vehicles built from 1996 to 2018. Notice that the number of problems reported has increased greatly from 2000 to 2010.

Most deteriorated in new car reliability

In order to better compare reliability across production years, we use the number of problems reported during the vehicles first year in service. The result for Toyota brand vehicles is show in Table 2. Table 2 shows the number of problems in the first service year of Toyota vehicles built from 1996 to 2018. Notice that from 2003 to 2010 the new car reliability of Toyota vehicles has deteriorated greatly.
