Nissan 370Z owners have reported 39 problems related to power train (under the power train category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Nissan 370Z based on all problems reported for the 370Z.
While driving my 2014 Nissan 370z with only around 43,000 miles, the car suddenly made a loud bang in the rear area and then would not shift normally in automatic mode while I was on the highway with my child in the car. When I inspected the underside afterward, there were no fluids leaking and I had not hit anything that could have caused the noise or malfunction of the output sensor. Shortly after, the vehicle went into limp mode and would not shift past 2nd or possibly 3rd gear. Manual mode also stopped working. This limited the car to around 25 mph, creating a dangerous situation in traffic since it could not accelerate normally. The check engine light came on, and a scan revealed a p0720 speed sensor circuit failure. The dealer advised replacing the valve body assembly at a cost of nearly $5,000. A transmission electronics failure of this kind at such low mileage is not normal wear and tear. Research shows that other Nissan and Infiniti owners with the same 7-speed automatic transmission have experienced the same problem. This appears to be a recurring defect that presents a serious safety risk when the vehicle suddenly loses acceleration ability.

The seal on the clutch slave cylinder failed and contaminated the hydraulic system in the car. This prevented the car from being able to enter gear as the clutch could not be disengaged. This resulted in me being stuck in the middle of the road, unable to move the car unless I turned the car off, stuck it in gear, then started it up and gunned the engine at the same time. My car is a 2017, with only 31,000 miles on it. The dealership would not cover it under the power train warranty despite the fact that the csc is located within the transmission casing and is an intrinsic part of the power train. Hydraulic cylinders are not a wear item. This should not happen at 31,000 miles. Nissan was no help and only recommendation was service bulletin sb-10051926-2342, which recommends swapping the clutch fluid for a higher temperature fluid. This only solved the problem for about a week before the concentric slave cylinder failed completely. There is currently a lawsuit, nguyen vs. Nissan north America, going through federal courts that in the process of discovery revealed through internal emails Nissan is aware that this failure is a result of a design flaw which makes it particularly susceptible to the kind of high temperatures developed inside the transmission. Please force Nissan to recall these parts. Its not right to have to pay 2000 dollars every other year to replace hydraulic cylinders in lightly used cars.

The clutch slave cylinder failed which results in not being able to put the car in gear once you have stopped and placed the car in neutral. This failure happened at an intersection and caused me to not be able to proceed. One car almost slammed into me. Nissan has known about this inferior plastic part since 2009 and has not changed anything.

My clutch would not come off the floorboard. I could not shift into any gear. This happen 3 different times after I would make long freeway trips without shifting. I had 3 different, well established mechanics look at my and do a diagnostic test. As I waited for a tow truck. I found a lawsuit against Nissan for a faulty (concentric) clutch slave cylinder! on 2 of the occasions I would let my car cool down for an hour or so and it would be fine. On this occasion, I let my sit over night. The next day my clutch was still on the floor. I fulled the clutch off the floor with my foot. I turned the car on. The car lunged forward almost going into the hotel building. I pulled the e-break and turned the car off. The car was towed to the Nissan dealership in renton wa. I had to explain to the dealer about the lawsuit on the clutch slave cylinder. He had not heard of it. I contacted me later and agreed it was the clutch slave cylinder. I was exiting the freeway 2 times and was not able to shit past 2nd gear the two times before. This last time I was coming off the freeway and had to coast into the nearest drive. I was caught off gaurd , I rolled through one four way stop with my hazard lights on. So not to get stuck in midfle of the road.
Concentric slave cylinder in my manual transmission went out and failed randomly while I was driving. The clutch just got stuck to the floor and I could not get it back up. This is dangerous because you do not know when it is going to fail and leaving you stranded on the middle of the highway.
Tl -the contact owns a 2014 Nissan 370. The contact stated while driving 20 mph the check engine light illuminated and the vehicle seized. The contact turned the vehicle back on and when she pressed the accelerator pedal it only went 5 mph. The vehicle was diagnosed by the dealer (Nissan of burlingame 101 California drive, burlingame CA 94010) and stated the vehicle needed a engine harness. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was approximately 55,000. Jc.
Problem started with an ignition issue where the car would turn on and would go through the normal start and instead of having the engine turn on it would crank but then shut off. Car was parked in my garage not in any kind of weather that could cause issues. My battery ended up dying at some point as well. The car was parked and covered. Some heat but nothing too hot. And recently, there was a loss in power while driving on the freeway causing to car to be unable to accelerate. It would restart after being shut off but the service engine light stays on. The dealership was able to replicated the engine not igniting on fully before shutting down.

Csc (clutch pressure) is failing. Many 370z drivers are having this issue.
Dash starts unexpectedlly to crack and fall apart. Even when my vehicle has tint in windows since new. Transmission always noisy until you press down the clutch.
Had no pressure in clutch about a year ago while driving on the highway and kept getting stuck after releasing it. Had the clutch and flywheel replaced, problem went away for a while. But it's been less than a year, and I am having the same problem again. I was driving on the freeway in stop and go traffic, and the clutch suddenly had no pressure halfway again. Now the problem might be the clutch master cylinder or clutch slave cylinder. It happened suddenly on the freeway with no indication of warning. I still have stock power terrain parts. I have seen many people on 370z forum with the same exact problem.
I got into my car in the garage and tried to start it by first pushing the clutch and pressing the start button. While pushing the clutch down, it fell to the floor and stayed there and never came back up. I have to lift it with my left foot.

Clutch slave cylinder went out at around 40k miles. After doing some research, this is a known problem with many other 370 z's. I am now worried that I will need a third csc.

As I was driving during heavy business hours my clutch stayed stuck all the way to the bottom, without me being able to shift. I got in to a parking lot and the car did not want to start anymore, so I had to tow it to a Nissan dealership. At the dealership they diagnosed it and claimed it is the csc.
Just driving normally down the highway and press the clutch in to shift gears and my clutch did not come back out. The clutch stayed flat to the floor. The fluid were all gone. I fill it up but clutch still stay flat to the floor. I had to replace the csc (concentric slave cylinder).
The csc (clutch slave cylinder) failed when I was driving leaving me without any power. I cant drive my car anymore and I need to get the transmission dropped to fix it.
Clutch pressure (csc) failure this has already failed once and needs to be recalled and upgraded so the problem doesn't happen every 25,000 miles. Now that my car is out of warranty they will not replace anymore.
Was driving on the service road as I exited off the highway and I lost clutch pressure. This is a very common problem in the 370z and Nissan needs to fix this. There are hundreds of owners who have had this issue. I was left stranded on the service road with no clutch pressure.
While driving home from texas my clutch started to weaken and eventually stuck to the floor while I was traveling approximately 70 mph. Understanding that my car had a problem that was likely to leave me stranded, I continued to travel at 70 to 75 mph from jackson, mississippi to birmingham, alabama without stopping. When I arrived at the end of the off ramp, I could not get the car into 1st gear so I could continue on home. After being stranded for about 30 minutes, I eventually got the car into first gear. I had to drive from the exit to my home in first gear. When I got to my house I had to use the starter to get my car into the garage. The trip from jackson to birmingham was exceptionally dangerous and there was many opportunities for a tragedy for example: (1) not being able to react properly in traffic, (2) not being able to react properly to construction zones, (3) not being able to react properly to city speed zones, et cetera. Given that this issue came on quickly, a dangerous situation presented itself in heavy fast moving traffic when I could not properly change gears when down-shifting. Due to my delayed response trying to get my car into gear, I was almost hit from behind which caused other nearby cars to have to react to the situation as well. Fortunately everyone around me at the time of final failure was paying attention. Taking a look at the history of this issue, it seems to have carried from the 350z to the 370z which starts in 2002 and continues year to date. Based on research in forums, this failure takes place at an average of 25,000 miles and continues to reoccur after replacement at the same interval. It is a matter of time before this failure causes a death, but then again, if someone dies they will hardly be able to report the problem. Please look into this issue and consider both the 350z and the 370z--which has inherited the issue.
Hi it is a 370z clutch pressure (csc) failures. People are complaining all over the place talking about how this is leaving people stranded especially on new vehicles. There's a post here about a brand new 2016 370z had a csc failure and had to be towed into the nearest dealership to get it fixed. Https://www. Reddit. Com/r/370z/comments/3cfv0s/bad_slave_clutch_cylinder_on_2016_370z/ there is also 70 pages full of the problem here. . Read more...
Takata recall. I first occurred a problem with the z on my wedding day. My clutch dropped to the floor and we couldn't get the car in gear. We were put in the middle of the mountains with no way to call a tow truck so we did our best to make it to the closest Nissan dealer. On the way we came to a four way red light and couldn't shift to a low enough gear to get to car to slow down, a semi was traveling about 60 mph right at us, we swerved into the emergency on and the truck to barely missed us. After that my husband found out from a mechanic that he should bleed the clutch so he did and the clutch was normal again. Besides that the car has had only one other occurrence with the clutch. I am petrified to drive my car after that situation but I have no choice considering I spend most of my paycheck just to pay for the one thing that will probably send me to my grave. This is a very serious problem and should be fixed! now to mention this morning. . . I woke up to go to work and went to start my car when my car wouldn't start due to a steering lock malfunction and will probably end up having to take it to a dealership if my research doesn't work out as planned. The brake light comes on when I push the clutch. . . The traction control light comes on and stays on for long periods. This car is going to hurt someone bad! worried about the people drinking and driving? you should be worried about the people driving a Nissan 370z !!!! so frustrated!.
My csc - clutch slave cylinder gave up on me putting my clutch petal to the floor unable to change any gears. I was stranded on the road for hours. Nissan must fix this issue with 370z with manual transmission the csc is made of plastic and should (must) be replaced with one made my metal. Many hundreds of 370z enthusiast have this issue.
Bought a brand new 2014 Nissan 370z back on may 9th 2014. Amazing car with one really bad weak link, csc. My csc (clutch slave cylinder) went out at 23,309 miles. Luckily I was parked right outside my house. My clutch peddle sank to the floor and would not engage. Had to tow the vehicle to my dealership to have them determine it "would not be covered under warranty" due to "misuse of the vehicle" from a "burnt" flywheel. I did some research and hundreds of 370z's with manual transmissions have had the same issue with their csc. There are pages and pages of discussions on forums about this plastic csc. We believe there should be a recall on this and should be covered under warranty since hundreds of consumers have had the same issue and Nissan does not want to cover it under the powertrain warranty when in fact is a power train issue on their part. Great car, bad csc, bad customer support by Nissans consumer affairs.
Csc failed at 47000miles. Many others have had this issue.
Early in 2015 my clutch started sticking when the weather got colder and after doing research I found that this was a common issue with the csc seal gong bad. I even told Nissan that it was bad took it in for service and the only thing they did was put in the same type of clutch fluid used in the gtr, after getting the car back and driving for a week the clutch started to stick again and I once again told them it was the csc seal that was going bad and they finally took the clutch apart to see what I was saying was correct and they replaced it with the stock csc that Nissan uses knowing that failure again was possible. Well here it is less than a year later and I am having the same issues with the clutch either sticking or going all the way to the floor now that the temperature is dropping. I have a call into the dealership to find out if its still under warranty! Nissan knows there is an issue with its stock csc seal but continues to used them in their vehicles.
When go from park to reverse rear make clunk noise as soon as the car start moving, or driving at low speed when step on gas it also make clunk noise. Brought the car to dealership thinking its under manufacture 5 year/50k power train warranty only to find out its a not a warranty item and would not be covered. But its TSB number ntb12-055d. And its okay to keep driving with out the repair. Not sure if it would get worst over time will have to wait till it causes accident. Not feel safe driving the car with those noise.
The clutch slave cylinder failed on me. I hear this is a known problem in 370z's among the rest of the 370z community yet the manufacturer refuses to acknowledge that it's a common problem.
I started out of my drive when as I start out in 1st gear the car stailed. . Because the clutch which normally catches half way out was now all of sudden catching right as my foot was leaving the fire wall. Which I know was not normal. . How ever being a hydrolic system I checked the fluid reservor to see if it was low. The system was with in the min and max level I contiued on when only a mile or so down the road the clutch peddle now stuck to the floor and would not release from the fire wall. It would only move 2 inches in or 2 inches out. It still would allow me to shift. I limed the car home and since it was Sunday and the dealerships are not open I had to wait to Monday morning Aug. 11th to contact the dealer. When I started to car up Monday the car would no longer allow me to shift into any gear at all. I called nissian north town in austin, TX to have the car towed in.
Driving back home after work (30 min drive) city, clutch became soft and delay its way back to normal position shifting to 3rd gear. Driving conditions where 50mph, 23mpg at 7pm.
There is a recurring issues with this vehicle where if driving long distances suddenly the clutch would go to the floor and eventually lose all resistance and make the car undrivable. I discovered this shortly after I purchased the vehicle at 20000 miles. I took it back to the place I purchased from and because it was intermittent they could not reproduce the issue. The next time it happened I was told to take it to the dealer. The problem came back and I was told I needed to make an appointment at the dealer. By the time I took it to the dealer it was again not happening so they were not able to find the problem. Saturday the 18th of Jan. It happened again and I was able to take it to the dealer while it was happening. They found the problem was the slave cylinder leaking but because now I am over the warranty Nissan will not cover the issue. I have researched this issue and seen several people complaining about the intermittent issue with the clutch that goes to the floor with very low miles on the car. The issue seems to be that the part that breaks is plastic and Nissan hasn't redesigned it since the 350z models that also experience the same issue. Please can someone look into this?.
Clutch master cylinder failed. I was on a highway and was unable to shift the car into a different gear. I barely made it off the highway where I was towed to the dealership. The clutch just completely lost pressure.
Drove to 7/11 to get gas. Turned the car off. When I got back in the car to leave the car would not start. There was an amber key on the dashboard. There have been a major number of complaints filed for this same reason. The immobilizer locked out the wheel shaft which locked out the key faub. Since the car thinks it has been stolen the car will do nothing. No Nissan dealership is open on a Sunday and they are knowingly doing nothing about the issue. I never received any notices that there could have been an issue in the 3 years I've had my car. There has been a huge number of complaints on blogs which I discovered today after attempting to get my car started again.
Clutch lines were designed to close to my cars catalytic converter. . Leading to clutch fluid boiling while im on the highway going 65-70 when appropriate. I push down on clutch and it sticks to the floor, I can barely shift this isnt safe. . The problem could only be resolved after replacing the whole clutch set up and Nissan covered the parts but I spent nearly $1000 in labor, on a car I just bought a month or so ago. . Im trying not to regret my choice of a car. They covered the parts for a reason. . Think on it.
For about 6 months prior to the issue, I would experience intermittent juddering when starting off in 1st gear. Eventually I lost clutch pressure and had to take my car in to Nissan. After they read there was a TSB for clutch pressure, they replaced my clutch fluid with a dot4 fluid. After 2 days of replacing the fluid, I lost clutch pressure yet again and had to get both the clutch master cylinder and clutch slave cylinder replaced. This lasted for about 8 months until I started to experience juddering again, and am waiting to lose full clutch pressure yet again to have to replace the faulty part. There are many people with the exact same problem, and my dealership even acknowledges that there is an issue, but Nissan has done nothing to address the issue. There needs to be a recall for the parts.
Slave cylinder on my 370z had a catastrophic failure. Nissan put an inferior slave cylinder in their 370z models. My slave cylinder had a catastrophic failure while sitting at a stop. Thankfully I was not on the highway. The tech that replaced the part said their was virtually nothing left from the slave cylinder because it was made out of inferior material. Nissan wanted $2,000 to replace and install the same inferior part because to them it is not considered part of the drive train even though this part is required for the drive train to operate. This item should not be considered wear and tear. Had to take my vehicle to a place that specializes in Nissan 370z to get an upgraded part put into my vehicle for less than half the cost Nissan wanted. Clutch engagement and feel is better than brand new no thanks to Nissan.
