Passenger airbag seat sensor frequently does not recognize if a passenger is in the front seat. Doesn't matter if the car is moving or not. Was told this was a recall and that it was repaired on my vehicle, but it clearly has not been fixed. Dashboard is sticky and melted to the point that when it's being driven it reflects up onto the windshield making it very difficult to see.
Diagnostic scan was ran and supplemental inflatable restraint system came back with 4 codes stating: occupant sensor unit fail x2 crash zone sensor unit fail and comm fail.
A service light appeared on dashboard failing my state inspection. I didn't know there was an issue until a diagnostic was done. The same issues were reported on my car that are the same as thousands of other Nissan Altimas 2008 that were recalled. However Nissan stated my car was not under recall even though I reported the same issues that are under recall. They refused to help me or give me any options. They said they were not responsible for any costs. The issues reported under diagnostic was occupant sensor ( passenger seat cushion) code b 1018.
I have a Altima coupe that has an intermittent fault with the passenger side bag airbag sensor. I drive down the road and it comes in and out randomly even with a passenger in the car. The car is at a Nissan dealership shop to be inspected and determine cause.
The airbag sensor on the passenger seat stopped working about a year ago. I had to get my car inspected last month to drive in the state of va and to access the naval base for work. I failed the inspection because of it and had to pay $705 for a new seat. I saw a recall for this problem but was told by Nissan recall department my car wasn't covered. How can that be possible? I am requesting a full refund from Nissan as the issue was a safety recall issued in 2008. I appreciate your assistance in helping me accomplish it.

Was informed by our Nissan dealership that this vehicle has inoperable airbags due to a failure of the front crash zone sensor. Of course, this is just an assumption on their part. This vehicle has never been in an accident or experience any impact of any nature to cause this sensor to malfunction. Nissan dealership ran a diagnostics test, but still no clear indication as to there being inoperable airbags. Was given two options, starting with one option of replacing the sensor in its entirety at an estimated cost of $525, and if that didn't work, running another diag. Test at an additional estimated cost of $592. In an attempt for some assistance, a consumer complaint was filed with Nissan north America only to be denied assistance on the cost of this repair. Their decision was based solely on the age of the vehicle and it not being under a warranty. Paying a $1,000 for a "guess" is extremely steep and unreasonable and a cost to which I cannot afford. Due to their faulty transmissions, at 45,000 miles, the transmission on this vehicle had to be completely replaced, to which Nissan picked up the tab for due to faulty transmissions of their cvt transmissions. Being purchased as a brand new vehicle only to have a transmission being completely replaced at 45,000 miles sheds new light on the poor quality of Nissan vehicles. At this time, Nissan is refusing to assist.
My passenger airbag sensor doesn't always work when a passenger is sitting there. That is while the vehicle is in park, putting it in drive doesn't matter it still says that passenger airbag is off. The only temporary fix is for the passenger to bounce in the seat and it might turn the airbag on and get rid of the message light on the center of the dash. This is in a 2008 Nissan Altima coupe.
The occupant sensor in the passenger seat doesn't correctly sense or classify a passenger (more than 120 lbs) when they are in the seat. This results in the air bag being incorrectly deactivated (similar to recent NHTSA campaign number 14v138000). The vehicle was previously given to the dealer to fix under NHTSA campaign number 08v521000. This still occurs and adjusting her position or the seat position doesn't eliminate the issue so passengers would not have air bag protection in the event of a frontal impact.
Approximately the last 13 months I have noticed 2-3 times a week, the passenger airbag off light was on. On several occasions while this light was on, I drove by the Nissan dealer (eastside Nissan of bellevue, wa) and showed the light was on even with my wife sitting square in the passenger seat. The technician drove with my wife with the light still on. However, he pulled in some sensor and stated that the system should work fine even if the light was on. They stated that they tested the sensor last year and it worked fine so they are not going to do anything about it. I have called Nissan USA many times and all I would get is someone telling me that they have to replicate the issue. Based on Nissan's position, I am holding Nissan corporation, eastside Nissan, and NHTSA liable for any injuries which result from injury from an accident and also pain and suffering and any additional distress, especially if the airbag or other safety system fails. The Nissan airbag system can lead to a fatality even with an adult 150+ lbs. Just prior to an accident. No part have been changed out and my warranty is about to expire with no action on Nissan's part except for excuses of why they cannot fix the problem.
The passenger side airbag turns itself off sporadically when I (160 lbs) or my husband (190 lbs) sit in the passenger seat. I took it back to the dealer twice. The second time the dealer told me that Nissan stated that my airbag sensor was operating as per specification. There is no manual override switch to force the airbag to inflate during a crash. The owner's manual states that the airbag may turn itself off when small adults are sitting in the front passenger seat, but offers no solution for this situation. Does this mean that Nissan is willfully depriving small adults (and, in our case, not so small adults) of their airbag protection? this is a fatal design flaw. There must be a recall to install a manual override switch for the passenger side front airbag. The car's computer must not be allowed to decide who gets an airbag and who doesn't.
