The contact owns a 2008 Nissan Altima. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the “passenger’s side air bag off” message was displayed. The vehicle was taken to an unknown dealer, and the dealer informed the contact that he needed to pay-out-of-pocket for the diagnostic test. The vehicle was then taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the front passenger's side air bag seat sensor needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 158,000.

2 Sensor Occupant Classification Front Passenger problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2020

The contact owns a 2008 Nissan Altima. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 08v521000 (air bags). The contact had taken the vehicle to a dealer for maintenance and was informed that the VIN was not included in the recall. The contact then stated that the passenger air bag off warning light was illuminated on the instrument panel. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but offered no assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 55,000.
