Nissan Altima owners have reported 977 problems related to engine and engine cooling (under the engine and engine cooling category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Nissan Altima based on all problems reported for the Altima.
What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? the engine control module (ecm) is malfunctioning, triggering persistent p0101 codes related to the mass air flow (maf) sensor. This specific issue is addressed in Nissan technical service bulletin de97aa, which recommends an ecm reprogramming. The component is still installed in the vehicle and is available for inspection. ? • how was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? when the vehicle is at a complete stop and I attempt to accelerate, it becomes jumpy and unresponsive, refusing to accelerate properly. This creates a serious safety hazard, especially when trying to merge into traffic or cross intersections, as I am unable to match the speed of other vehicles. This increases the risk of being rear-ended or causing an accident due to unexpectedly slow acceleration. ? • has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? yes. An independent mechanic diagnosed the issue and confirmed the code p0101. After reviewing Nissan’s official TSB de97aa, they advised me to go to a Nissan dealership to have the ecm reprogrammed as outlined in the bulletin. ? • has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? the vehicle was inspected by an independent mechanic, but not yet by the manufacturer. The dealership is aware of the issue but has refused to perform the repair without payment. ? • were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? yes. The check engine light is consistently triggered by code p0101, and the traction control warning light also comes on when the issue is active. The symptoms appeared recently and continue to recur even after the code is reset.

There is a recall for Altimas from years 2019-2021 with an issue where the engine will not start after the battery light on the dashboard comes on. After a few minutes the car will start up and ride like normal. This also happens in the 2018 model of the Altima. This happened to us multiple times. The battery is good, and there is no reason for the engine not to start right aqay. Why is there no recall for the 2018 models?.

Unknown. The engine started have overheating issues but never was ran in the overheated zone. We took the car to the dealer and was told the head was cracked. We questioned how that was possible if we never ran it in the overheated zone. We were told they did not know but that several other customers in the last few weeks have had the same issue. Then we heard about the recall but was told our car was not affected. It needs to be reevaluated. We never ran the car hot.

This is my second complaint on this vehicle I have brought my car back multiple times for this issue and I keep getting they have found nothing wrong I feel very unsafe driving this car it stalls frequently while I’m driving I’ve been in the middle of very busy intersections I’ve been at stop lights it’s very humiliating when a a newer car stalls all the time. I’ve gone to the stores and come out and my car won’t start it’s very nerve racking and embarrassing having a 2023 vehicle and this is the stuff I have to deal with on a day to day basis wondering if I’m going to be able to go to work or any where or be stranded some where I bought the car brand new and it has not been reliable at all I’m to the point where I feel I need to seek legal advice on this matter. Since no one knows what the issue is. Very unhappy customer not a safe car at all stalling in the middle of intersections is pretty scary.

My check engine light comes on & the it will go off then back on again….
1) what component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? the cylinders are constantly misfiring. 2 )how was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? yes. 3) has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? yes. 4) has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? yes, by a private auto service center. 5) were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? no. 6) problem description: the service technician from the repair shop tried replacing the plug, coil, injector but it still misfires. Later the technician reported that this is a problem listed as recall (recall reference number : ntb13-056a, campaign pc131) for 2007-2008 Nissan Altima, but the same problem exists in 2009 Nissan Altima and is not listed as recall. Links for references are given below. The technician is sure that it is the same problem and Nissan should fix it by recalling instead of asking the owners to pay for this known recall issue. Repairing this issue by owners, would cost them several thousand dollars and is definitely not worth for a 2009 car. So I request the authorities to enforce this known issue as a recall to 2009 Nissan atlima as well as it has been done for 2007 and 2008 Nissan Altimas. Thanks and regards. I need to preface this by stating I fundamentally don’t understand how an issue that directly results in the failure of inspection which dictates road safety/emissions quality and was identified by two mechanics as a part known to fail cannot be under a recall. The part addressed is #14001-3ta1e but more specifically it is an issue with the value position sensor. It is a small part which dicates whether the swirl or tumble control activates which triggers the p2004. If you look up the code it’s common side effects are as follows: decrease in low-end engine torque: you may notice a decrease in acceleration, particularly at low rpm levels. Engine surging or sputtering: the engine may run unevenly, particularly when starting up. Sluggishness: the vehicle may feel less responsive to the throttle. Difficulty reaching higher speeds: you may find it challenging to accelerate quickly or reach your desired speed. Rough idle: the engine may run unevenly and potentially stall at low speeds or while idling. 2. Decreased fuel economy: the imrc system's primary function is to optimize the air/fuel mixture for different driving conditions. When it's not functioning correctly due to being stuck open, it can negatively impact fuel efficiency. 3. Check engine light (cel) illumination: the check engine light (or service engine soon light) will likely illuminate when the p2004 code is triggered. This is often the first indicator that something is wrong. 4. Potential for severe engine damage: this is the most critical side effect. If the hardware for the imrc butterfly valve plates becomes loose and falls into the engine, it can cause severe engine damage or even engine failure. This being said you would think it would be an easily replacable part. Not in the slightest you have to buy an entire manifold 1300 msrp through Nissan with no gurantee of it fixing the light. I have had instances of stalling / sluggishness since it has come on. This seems imparitive to vehicle safety.

I am writing to formally request a recall for my 2016 Nissan Altima due to a known issue with the continuously variable transmission (cvt). Recently, my vehicle has exhibited concerning symptoms, including an inability to exceed 20 mph while hitting 3 rpm, and significant hesitation when accelerating, followed by abrupt lunging. Notably, these issues occurred without any prior warning lamps or indicators until recently with the rpm issue. Despite taking my vehicle to Nissan for diagnostic scans, which cost approximately $600, no specific issues were identified. These problems have not been reproduced during dealer inspections or by law enforcement, yet they pose a significant safety risk to myself and others on the road. I would like to qualify for the free recall service to have this issue inspected and resolved by an authorized Nissan dealer. Please provide me with the necessary information to proceed with this request. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

I was driving on a 2 lane highway when my car starting bucking and completely went dead. I walked to a station where I got help. After that it happened again and I had to be towed. After having car looked at by 2 mechanics I found out it was the transmission. The mechanic said he was surprised as I didn't even have 70,000 miles on car. It cost me over $5,000 for the transmission and then I came to find out about all the Nissan recalls. I wrote a letter to them and attached articles and my proof of receipt from transmission place, and explained that I am a senior on a fixed income and just wanted the money to cover expenses of what the transmission costs due to their faulty transmissions. They said they could not help me. Also, my sons car came to have the same transmission problem but he got rid of it.

I purchased my 2015 Nissan Altima in July, 2022 with 56,530 miles on it. At this date it has approximately 71,500 miles on it. I have driven it 14,970 miles in 2. 5 years. On [xxx] I was driving home from thanksgiving in east brunswick, NJ to my home in south philadelphia on [xxx] in new jersey when my car suddenly began to have a slow down in ability to accelerate. I ended up pulling over after a moment of slowing down and not knowing what was happening. When I got to the break down lane, the car stalled. I ended up getting road side assistance to tow me to ward's automotive in mt. Laurel, NJ, where my family and I have brought cars for many years (we used to live in moorestown, NJ. Ward's ended up telling me the following Monday that my engine was "bad. " I have no idea how my engine died after only 71,500 miles on this car! I got oil changes on it every 5,000 miles. I did report to the dealership in December, 2022 that I was hearing weird noises coming from the right front side but they told me they heard nothing. What can I do??? I am still paying for this vehicle (approx. $3,100 left on loan). I did not purchase an extended warranty when I bought it used. I have learned my lesson, but I need help understanding what rights I have. I don't know if there is any manufacturer's warranty on the car.
