The contact stated that she had been taking her vehicle in for routine maintenance every 3,000 miles to have the oil changed, and had not experienced any engine failure. She was informed that a new engine would cost between $6,000-$7,000 and a used engine would cost between $3,000-$4,000. The failure and current mileages were 85,000.

37 Engine Oil Leaking problem of the 2002 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 11/01/2007

I purchased a used 2002 Nissan Altima in 2006. 3 months after I bought it, I began having problems with it leaking oil. Then a month after that I began having mechanical/electrical problems, such as the car would shut off on its own when I was driving on the surface street as well as the freeway. The car will now not go over 25 mph. I spoke to Nissan regarding a recall that I found on your website and they stated to me that the previous owner had already brought the car in for these same problems and it was repaired already and that they are not obligated to repair it again. I have recently found hundreds of recent complaints on this matter. This is a horrible accident waiting to happen. I do not have thousands of dollars to repair a manufacturer (Nissan) failure to resolve an issue with me and thousands of other consumers. For my car to shut off at a speed of 65-70 mph on the freeway is heart stopping. My granddaughter who is now 3, was with me. Cars were swerving around me. We were all lucky to be alive. If this problem had been addressed properly and correctly, these problems would not be recurring . I have taken my car to 2 different mechanics and they say that I have to go to Nissan because this car will not run without Nissan parts. Nissan says give me $6,000+ dollars and we can give you a new engine. But we have no problem with our Nissan Altima's. I don't know what to do. My car is sitting inoperable in my driveway as I make monthly payments. This is the worst car I have ever owned.

The headliner has been replaced and it still has a spot where I believe it is leaking. My pickup as in the motor isn't working properly when I put my foot on the gas it takes time for it to move. I have taken it in on a regular basis for oil changes, rotation of tires etc. I am very dissatisfied with the motor of this vehicle. Please help.

However when she returned to the dealer, she was told she didn't qualify for a new engine or even having the existing engine fixed. 42 Engine Oil Leaking problem of the 2006 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 08/01/2006

I purchased a brand new 2006 Nissan Altima in March 2006. It's now August 2006, and I am experiencing an oil leak. I took the car to the dealership and the technician told me that it was leaking at the seal. Now my vehicle identification number fell in the range of the 2006 Nissan Altima recall. The technician stated that Nissan corporate told him just to replace the seal. I was not satisfied with that response. I was never offered a new motor. I believe that because I am a woman they are playing me for dumb. I have also been dealing with squealing brakes that I have reported to the technician which he keeps dismissing as the hot weather.

43 Engine Oil Leaking problem of the 2006 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 05/01/2006

- the contact stated that the 2006 Nissan Altima was excessively consuming oil, she has taken it at least fifteen times to the dealer. The dealer advised her to bring the vehicle in when it had no oil. The first time she took it to the dealer for repair she had received a recall letter from Nissan regarding the oil leak, but to her knowledge it was not repaired and the problem recurred. When the contact took the vehicle to the dealer they stated that there was no problem. She called north american Nissan ,and they told her to send in her invoices so that they might help her, but the vehicle was still excessively consuming oil.

44 Engine Oil Leaking problem of the 2005 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 05/07/2005

The car would suddenly stop while driving almost causing fatal accidents. Car was taken to Nissan to have a recall fixed for this exact problem. Nissan stated they would not reprogram the ecm under the recall until the crankshaft position sensors were replaced and was charged 350 dollars for parts and labor. The recall stated the sensors could overheat and cause brief interruption to the ecm and cause the car to stall. If the sensors are causing the problem why are they not recalled as well? further review online shows the original sensors were made from plastic and could crack and leak oil onto the sensor causing them to fail and the new revised ones are made from metal.

46 Engine Oil Leaking problem of the 2002 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 03/24/2003

This is written notice of a complaint I have regarding my new 2002 Nissan Altima. At the time of purchase, I was sold a defective engine, which is leaking oil at the rate of 2 quarts every 1,300 miles. The NHTSA has a recall for this as 03v084000 under the 'notes' section as I believe this is what my problem is. The car only has 7,000 miles but I have had to top the oil since I purchased the 2002 2. 5 Altima.

47 Engine Oil Leaking problem of the 1996 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 12/24/1998

The upper oil pan seal is not secure. This causes oil to leak from engine. I am familiar with four other individuals with the same problem ( Altima owners). The seal itself is very inexpensive, but the labor to lift the engine to replace the seal, is estimated at approximately $450 to $600. With five Altima owners with the same problem, I feel this is a design error. Any help would be greatly appreciated!.
