Car automatically reduces speed from 65 mph to 35 mph while in motion on highway and will not increase speed when driving at an hour or better at 65 mph or greater. When it autodecelerates it makes a whining noise and will not accelerate again until you turn the engine off and allow the car to sit for 30 mins or better.

Last summer I had an issue with the butterfly valve on the exhaust system. It was a Saturday, I was on my way to work and the only place that was open and the closest was the Nissan dealership. I took it in there they fixed it, but the repairs were over 1 grand. I don't have that kind of money lying around so I called Nissan corporate to ask if I can have financial assistance. They said because I don't service my car at the dealership they can not finance me and help me with it. The Nissan dealership is out of my way to get it serviced. Second issue started recently and that is when I am driving my car there is not very good acceleration and once I hit 20 mph I start to hear a whining noise. I did some digging in several online forums and those with similar issues have been told its the cvt transmission. Last week I barley went over 73,000 miles on my odometer. I do not have money to replace an entire transmission, nor do I really care to. I will never purchase another Nissan as long as I live. There cooperate customer service sucks as well as there cvt transmissions!!.

Throughout its life from when I received car at around 45,000 miles, every couple thousand 5k-10k care engine engine could not accelerate quicker car would begin making engine whining noise. It was never disgnosed as a cvt problem when I would take car to Nissan in warranty repair . During dealership repair enounter mass air flow sensor was replaced. "mass air flow sensor" that has been replaced multiples times throughout its life as well. Car now has a cvt problem and struggles during hot weather and worst if people are in car now.

When driving the car for a long distance (30 miles) there is a whining sound that starts and the car will not accelerate. If the car is allowed to sit and cool down the whining will stop but start back as the engine/transmission heats up. During this period the car will loose power and not exceed 40 miles per hour. This happens when driving throughout the city and on the highway.
The vehicle began making a whining noise during acceleration and then loss power on the interstate and would not go over 40mph even with the gas pedal depressed all the way making a very unsafe situation for my family. I've done research and found several other owners complaining of the same issue and receiving no assistance from Nissan on this obvious safety issue.

My car started making a whining noise while driving it. Going up the hill my car on a highway in the desert when the speed declined it's from 70mph to 45mph, which I tried to accelerate and it was stuck on 45mph, and almost caused the car behind me to crash into me with my three young children in the back seat. A lot of complaints have been made and nothing's has been done. What does it take a life to be taken in order for a recall. The transmissions on these cars are crap. Every time someone walks into the dealership they seem to be well aware but no recall he been done.
The contact owns a 2006 Nissan Altima. While driving approximately 30 mph, the front end of the vehicle made a rattling noise and the cabin filled with smoke. The contact pulled over and turned off the vehicle. The contact noticed liquid underneath the front end of the vehicle as well as a small fire. The contact stated the flame went out shortly after. The contact did not contact the fire department. There were no injuries. The contact had the vehicle towed to her home. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The contact stated that the failure was related to NHTSA campaign number: 06v223000 (engine and engine cooling); however, the VIN was not included. The approximate failure mileage was 154,000.

When I first bought it I heard a whistling sound and was told it was nothing. I travel a lot and while on the interstate I went from going 75 mph to 30 and it wouldn't accelerate. I would pull over and wait about 10 minutes until I could accelerate. Initially I thought it was the fuel line so I put fuel injector in it and it a couple days later it happened while I was on the interstate again. This has happened to me at least 5 times. I can't even drive it on the interstate. After taking it to the multiple mechanics I was told that it was the transmission and it will need to be replaced.
When I start the car up there is a loud rattling noise for about 45 seconds then goes away. Also as I am driving my car there is a burned rubber smell and is mostly noticeable when I get from point a to b and exit the car.
The contact owns a 2010 Nissan Altima. Every time the vehicle was driven over a bump, a rattling noise was heard. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the failing motor mount and one strut needed replacement. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The VIN was invalid. The approximate failure mileage was 73,000.

I was driving northbound on western avenue busy main street in chicago all the sudden my car started shaking and vibrating as I approach the lighti had to turn my car off put it in park first turn it off and then try to turn it back on to accelerate it only works once until I got to the second main light and my car would not move or accelerate and I was stuck in the middle of a busy main street with cars behind me beeping and driving past me. Not to mention my rpm's we're going all over the place and I could not drive past 20 miles per hour and the car would speed up and slow down on its own and it felt like it was over working itself. Prior to this ionly a week ago that I heard a rattling noise and took it into my mechanic to see what the problem was and the computer told him it was a transmission issue which at this time Nissan had refused to repair and replace based on the warranty because I was over a thousand miles which at that point I never knew or was notified there was an extended warranty otherwise I would have taken in the car a lot sooner thousand miles is only two weeks more of driving for me. Also my rpm's were going all over the place I couldn't even drive past 20 miles per hour and then the car would speed up with the rpm's increasing not only does this present a problem need driving the car but it also created a safety issue I could have gotten hit from behind with my 1 year old child in the backseat crying hysterically and I could have gotten hit moving my own car to safety because I had to get it out of the main busy street and no one came out to help me and I was pushing my car by myself in 20 below freezing weather in chicago. Now it's going to cost me $2,000 to fix this problem that Nissan already knew was an issue never notified me of even with the extended warranty and did not want to cover it because I was over the mileage.

My car started making an engine rattling noise as if I needed oil. I took my car to a mechanic and had the oil and filter changed several times, but the noise continued and my check engine light came on and will not go off. The noise has gotten louder and my car hesitates when I try to accelerate. Sometimes when I try to start my car, it hesitates and will not start. The mechanic stated that it sounded like my crankshaft was going bad. I looked on the internet for those kinds of problem with my car and saw that there was a recall on this item, but my VIN didn't show that mine was one of the ones that was recalled. I am not the original owner of this vehicle, I bought it used from a car dealership. I need for this problem to be repaired without cost to me because this is not my fault.

I purchased a 2013 Nissan Altima s from carmax on 10/5/14. The car was suppose to be a birthday present to myself seeing as though I had not purchased a car in 12 years. I was very excited, but shortly after purchasing the Altima, I started to hear squealing coming from the brakes, and also roaring and rumbling which started in the front of the car, and proceeded to the center. I also complained about the car locking up and driving sluggish, and then releasing once the rumbling briefly stopped. I am also hearing an annoying whining sound coming from the right side of the vehicle. When I took the car back to carmax, they told me the roaring was coming from my windshield washer compartment that was loose, and that my brakes were fixed. Needless to say, I left and drove around the corner, and the squealing brakes and roaring came back. I took the car to a Nissan dealership in my area, and after telling them about the roaring and the whining, the service manager told me that he's quite familiar with the sound, and there is nothing wrong with the vehicle. He stated that the whining sound is coming from the power steering and the roaring is coming from the way I am driving the vehicle. How dare he! I only had the vehicle for a month before I took it to the Nissan dealership. He would not even try to look into the list of issues I requested to be fixed. The Nissan manager told me to go back to carmax or I would have to pay for the brakes to be fixed, and even charged me to rotate my tires. I left paying him for a service that I did not originally come in for. I went back to carmax and they finally fixed my brakes, but still could not find anything wrong that would cause the extremely annoying roaring and whining noises. This has been a nightmare, and I am thinking about taking legal action.

The contact owns a 2008 Nissan Altima. The contact stated while driving approximately 40 mph, a rattling noise emitted from the engine. There was decreased on engine rpms when the accelerator pedal was depressed. The vehicle was taken to a dealer. The technician indicated that the exhaust heat shield needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the problem who stated that they had trigger an unknown voluntary recall for the issue specified. The failure mileage was unknown.
Driving long distances my car overheats, looses power going from 70 mph down to 40 mph in high speed traffic. I am forced to get off the highway and let it reset itself. It has always made a whining noise during acceleration, and the brakes have squeaked from day one. I have complained to Nissan several times and am always been given lame excuses. Now that my warranty is up they have a solution to my problems. New transmission or overheat converter to the tune of $1600. How convenient they have a solution not that my car is out of warranty!! they refuse to help me or fix my car unless I fork over the money. My car has had problems since I purchased it and there was never any resolve. I purchased an extended warranty as I do a lot of driving. My car was out of warranty 2,000 miles when they miraculously found a cause and solution for my problem.
Tl- the contact owns a 2013 Nissan Altima. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked, he heard a winding noise. After opening the hood, he heard a loud whistling noise emitting from the engine. The vehicle was taken to a dealer for diagnosis and the contact was informed that the noise was normal. The manufacturer had not been made aware of the failure. The vehicle had not been repaired. The failure and current mileage was 200. Mah.
So I have been hearing a whining sound coming from the engine compartment of my car at low speeds. I took it in and the dealership told me it was a normal power steering noise. And said there was nothing they could do, I brought it back a week later after I found out the next day that their is a Nissan technical bulletin on this. And they had it for a few days with my other concerns and returned it to me saying that my car did not qualify for the repair. Why is this? it is making untoleribble noises and yet they do not fix it? to this day I am still getting these noise's and have read that the steering pump has failed on other 2013 Nissan Altimas. There needs to be a recall!.
While driving on the highway, engine began to make rattling noise and lost a significant amount of power during acceleration. Due to location and time of night, I coasted (barely using any acceleration) to a safe location. Turned engine off to look under the hood- could not find any problem. Tried starting car again and would not start. Had it towed the next day to mechanic- he found shards of metal in the engine oil and stated that the valves screws had came off and ruined the engine. I had always put in synthetic oil every 5k miles, and did a complete engine flush every year/25,000 miles ever since I bought the car 6 years ago. This occurred at 133500 miles and the engine cannot be salvaged. To replace the engine, the estimates I am receiving are between 2,000 and 3,000 usd.

Car was purchased almost two years ago, used. It drove well and any maintenance showed the car in great shape until recently. The engine started making a rattling noise. I took it to a mechanic to find that the car was extremely low on oil, which had never been an issue and oil changes done on schedule. The car now goes through about one quart of oil per two weeks. I was told the car would need a new engine. No warning lights appeared while driving to indicate that there was an issue with the engine or the low oil.

I purchased the vehicle on 3/23/12. I had an oil change on 3/26/12. The engine started making a rattling sound on 4/20/12 and a mechanic recommended an oil change because the oil was black and low. He did the oil change. The noise went away after the oil change. Then on 5/6/12 the rattling noise came back. I checked the oil and it was extremely low. I added 3 quarts. Then on 5/16/12, I checked oil again and had to add 1 1/2 quarts of oil. There are no leaks under the car or inside the hood. The car is consuming an excessive amount of oil. I only drive the car about 100 miles per week and sometimes less. . And the "check oil" light never comes on to indicate that it is low. I now have to check the oil every other day because I am worried that it will use it all. I have to keep quarts of oil in the trunk, in case it runs low again. This is not normal.
Tl-the contact owns a 2006 Nissan Altima. The contact stated that when the ignition was started, a loud rattling noise emitted from the engine area. The failure occurred during the initial start up and when driving at various speeds. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who stated that the engine piston ring needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the problem and informed the contact that the vehicle was not included in NHTSA campaign id number 06v223000 (engine and engine cooling). The approximate failure mileage was 125,000. Mah.
My vehicle began exhibiting the famous Nissan vq35 timing chain noises early on, mostly it was just a rattle which I was told was not a big deal. Later, at around 100k miles it became a very loud whining noise. I am concerned when driving my car because of the fact that the timing chain is a very important part of the vehicle, if damage occurs to it this could destroy my engine. Price quotes for repairing this are as high as $2500! the parts have been updated which proves Nissan knows of this issue and has had a plan of some sort to fix it for those that exhibit the problem. It's just too expensive to get done! Nissan should cover the bill for this!.
At 85000 miles, the car began to shudder and had difficulty accelerating; the diagnosis was a blown head gasket. At around 130000 miles the car started feeling rough and making rattling sounds. The dealer replaced the right and back engine mounts, leaking valve cover gaskets, front lower control arms, and left front hub and bearing but the sound still exists. At 141000 miles the "check engine light" came on and the dealer replaced the catalytic converter. At 144000 miles, the car suddenly would not go more than 10 mph. After turning the car off, the engine initially would not turn over; after a few minutes, the car started again but still could not go more than 10 mph. The second stop seemed to temporarily revive the car because it could be driven at normal speeds (at least long enough to make the 1 mile drive home) but it emitted a strong burning smell. At this point the diagnosis is irrelevant - it's time for a new, more reliable car.
The contact owns a 2005 Nissan Altima. The contact stated that there was a buzzing and rattling noise when the vehicle was started. When the weather was cold the problem lasted longer whenever the vehicle was started. If the vehicle was warm the noise was not heard. The dealer stated that the failure was caused by the timing chain tension guide which was made of plastic and failed in cold weather. The VIN was not available when the complaint was filed. The failure mileage was 74000 and the current mileage was 80000.
Timing chain on my 2005 Nissan Altima is making a buzzing/whining noise at the engine area. This whole process started on Wednesday, February 11, 2009 when the Nissan service department found the issue and stated that it should be fixed to the amount of $1,578. 00 (+tax). They even sent a "cpia - goodwill recommendation" request to which Nissan's message back was "goodwill is not recommended". At that time I explained to them that it did not make any sense to me why a timing chain that is meant to outlast the life of the engine would need to be replaced when my vehicle only has 76,717 miles on it. I have always ensured it is well maintained at the intervals recommended and I am a very safe and good driver and keep my vehicle in good working condition, it is not neglected in anyway. They suggested that I phone the Nissan customer care line to see if there was anything further that could be done. After 6 phone calls with Nissan customer care they too decided that they felt it was out of warranty and not their problem. So I went back to the dealership and received a recommendation to speak with the service manager. I sent him a very detailed email requesting assistance, he stated he'd look into my concerns. Unfortunately, he too received the same response that Nissan feels they are not obligated in anyway to repair the timing chain on my vehicle because it is out of the warranty period. At this time I plan to pursue this further by contacting the better business bureau and lemon law to see if they can assist in anyway. I believe that it is ridiculous for the consumer to pay the cost of replacing a part that should be replaced by the manufacturer since it is obviously a defective part, since it's designed to out live the life of the engine, last I checked 76,000+ miles on a Nissan is not the life of the engine. I hope that Nissan will finally realize they are responsible and assist in resolving this matter for me.
I went through inspections in delaware and the car failed for catalytic converter. Engine makes a very loud rattling noise when the oil is too low. I think the car dealer went out of business. Is there anything that can be done?.
My 2002 Nissan Altima vehicle was taken in for service at bob bell Chevrolet Nissan, 7900 eastern avenue, baltimore, maryland, 21224, on Thursday, August 2, 2007. It was brought in for servicing of all the vehicles' recalls, a soft grinding noise that could be heard when turning the steering wheel and low freon levels for air conditioning. On Friday afternoon, August 3, 2007 around 5pm, I was contacted by the service department and strongly advised to pick up the vehicle before the service division closed at 6pm. The dealership stated that all recalls and issues had been resolved and completed. I picked the vehicle up around 5:45pm and proceeded to travel home. After only fifteen minutes, the vehicle engine started to smoke profusely. The engine started shaking harder and harder and a loud rattling noise could be heard from within the engine. The teenage passenger in the vehicle began to vomit and her eyes started swelling due to the volume of fumes expelled from the cars engine through the ventilation and into the car. I immediately pulled over (3700 eastern blvd. ) and rushed to get her out of the seat where she continued to vomit once outside the vehicle. The dealership now denies ever seeing smoke from the engine (see attach. ), as well as, denied causing damage to my car that potentially resulted in the engine smoking. The vehicle was picked up on Wednesday, August 8, 2007 with the engine rattling uncontrollably even after being returned a second time to the dealership. The vehicle cut off while attempting to DE-accelerate at a red light the following day. Uncertainty surrounds whether the vehicle will cut off again while DE-accelerating proving it hazardous to drive, whether the vehicles five recalls where all properly addressed, and if the engine will start smoking again.

The vehicle was taken to the dealership where the contact had the vehicles engine computer reprogrammed, however the contact is still experiencing the problem. There were no prior warnings. The current and failure mileages were 213000.
I purchase 2006 Nissan Altima from eastern carolina Nissan in may 2006. I have been hearing a rattling noise 1 week after purchase. I notified Nissan and they stated that is was spark knocking but when I contacted them to inquire on service report, not noted. The airbag light on/off during driving. The doors lock when keys are in and car is started/off.
Purchased a 2006 Nissan Altima on 04/04/06 with 267 miles on the car. We noticed a rattling noise from the engine, we took the car in to dealer at 2700 miles (05/22/06) & told them of the problem, while we were there we had them go ahead & change the oil. They changed the oil first, then they could not hear the noise (duh !) the service tech told me they could not find anything wrong, that only the hood bracket was slightly loose. I explained that the bracket was loose because I had looked under the hood trying to figure out where the noise was coming from. I insisted that there was some sort of problem. They said if you hear it again bring it back and we can drive the vehicle together. 3-4 weeks later we started hearing the noise again, & received the letter in the mail from Nissan. We took the car back in at 5993 & we were told we were indeed part of the recall and to bring the car back every 700 miles (are they serious ?) Vehicle is losing oil but shows no sign of leakage. Presently, it is unknown where oil is flowing to due to oil gauge reading below the full mark. While idling in park vehicle cuts off, when restarted it made a rattling noise and cut off again. Vehicle had 3 oil changes since December 2001. Service technician said that piston rings were put on too tightly. Consumer was asked to drive vehicle for 500 miles to see if the problem would correct by itself. Consumer also stated vehicle burns fuel quickly.
