I have a 2003 Nissan Altima 2. 5sl. My car would not start, hesitated to accelerate, seemed to lose power on several occasions and then "service engine soon" warning light comes on the dashboard display. Dealer service dept is charging me more than $200 dollars for a crank sensor replacement repair.

2003 Nissan Altima sl - my wife was driving down the street and came to a stop sign. When she came to a stop at the stop sign the engine cut off, but all electrical remined operating. She could not restart the engine. The car has been towed to a dealership to diagnose the problem. No clear answer has been determined for why the engine continues to shut off when the car is idling, even when driven by dealership mechanics. I just found a recall on your website for the circuit board for the crank position sensor on 2002 Nissan Altimas. The consequences listed in this recall are similar to the one I am experiencing. I am going to the dealership to have them check mine. Could you please look into whether this cricuit board problem is also a problem with the 2003 Nissan Altima causing that car's engine to shut off while operating.
The car failed to start only two weeks after buying it, and the problem has recurred. The car acts as if it's flooded, cranking but not firing. Both failures occurred after recently purchasing gasoline (the same gasoline retailer is used fairly consistently) and driving the car immediately home in cold, but not severely cold, temperatures. The dealer said these circumstances shouldn't cause flooding, but has been unable to find any problems and now refuses to research it further. Nissan consumer affairs has advised of a recall that may be applicable, but the dealer doesn't seem to be aware of it and I'm in the process of following up on this point.

While driving during cold days at any speed engine will shut down , and force consumer to pull of the road. This was due to a faulty gas module sensor. Consumer most have at least half tank of gas to avoid freezing up the module sensor.

Car using 2 quarts of oil every 3000 miles.
While driving 40-45 mph, noticed smoke coming from under the hood. Consumer pulled over and fire department put out the fire. Vehicle was totalled. Fire department thought fire was caused by fuel injection system. However, cause of fire has not been officially determined yet. No injuries.
The failure happened twice today. I drove my Nissan Altima gxe in new york, NY on Aug. 19, 2000 at about 6:30pm. When I was approaching traffic lights at speed about 15-20 mph the engine died and emergency lights went off. I was able to stop and restart my car. 10-15 minutes later, while moving in slow traffic at about 15 mph the engine died again and at this time both emergency lights and sound alarm went off. I was lucky once more to stop safely. I turned off the alarm using alarm key on the ignition key-chain and restarted car again. I used original Nissan ignition key with "Smart chip". Gas tank was 1/4 full. On July 22, 2000 my car had recomended by Nissan 7500 mile interval service.
