When I first picked up my car the steering wheel was very stiff so I asked the dealership about it the same day- I was told it was probably the alignment and to not bring it back. And if I did, they may charge me to look at. About 2 months later I had been noticing my car would make an odd noise after about 5 minutes of driving and when I would brake. The dealership didn't have time to look at my car so I took it to a mechanic to check if there was something in brakes that was making the noise. They advised me to go to the dealership as the noise was not coming from my brakes but around my transmission- which warrantee would cover. I finally got an appointment with the dealership and was told I wouldn't have to pay for them to check it ** nothing was wrong***. Mid day after dropping the car off the night before- I was told that they couldn't hear any noise and to either leave it with them or take it home and if it's makes the noise to bring it back. So I went to the dealership the next morning and I was given that option again. The mechanic walked back to pull the car around and not even 5 minutes later he returns to say as soon as he started the car- he heard it. And it was loud enough to hear through music (which it wasn't really at the time) and to leave it for it to be checked again. I was then told a day later that my power steering pump would need to replaced and that it would well over 1k. They didn't not offer an apology or help. Instead they charged me when I went to pick up the car and were rude. I had asked for my paperwork as well as they didn't provide it to me when I bought the car, I was met with incredible rudeness and badgering. I did reach out to Nissan corporate for months with no resolution. The last I heard was from an agent that he asked them to provide me with the paperwork, but he couldn't guarantee they would. I was offered no further help.

The power steering pump (2017 Nissan Altima sr, 2. 4l, 35,980 miles) began to produce whining noises (high frequency pitch sounds) both when the engine runs with moving and when the car moves. Particularly, when I turn the steering wheel while the engine is on, it produces higher noises. If I don't turn the power steering wheel while the engine is on, it produces lower whining sounds. Thus, boulder Nissan in colorado replaced the problematic pump with a new one. However, the new one is not the solution at all. I have complained this issue against boulder Nissan. They couldn't solve the issue because the power steering pump itself is defective. I know all of 2011 ~ 2018 Altima have the same issue, which has been well known on the internet. Nissan company must recall the power steering wheel pump and replace it with a newly designed pump (not the same defective one). What happens if the power steering wheel doesn't function properly while driving?.

Over the past couple of months the steering in my car has gotten tough. I thought it may have been the power steering pump. I took it to the shop and they couldn't find the problem, being that the power steering pump was working properly and the fluid level was good. Yesterday I was at the gas station getting fuel. As I was driving away, there was a sound similar to a balloon popping and the steering jerked to the right, almost hitting another vehicle, and the steering is so tough now that it is impossible to drive the vehicle. I looked up the problem online and lots of people with the same vehicle have the same exact problem. And there was a recall for that reason. My VIN doesn't show a recall, but it needs to.

Tl the contact owns a 2017 Nissan Altima. When the vehicle was cranked, the contact heard a drilling sound. The noise occurred for at least two months. The vehicle was taken to all star Nissan (27700 juban road, denham springs, la 70726) where it was diagnosed that the tubing that traveled from the power steering pump to the steering column was vibrating and caused the sound. The dealer stated that the manufacturer was aware of the failure and that it was common for that year and model vehicle; however, there was no remedy available. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 17,600.
Tl the contact owns a 2018 Nissan Altima. While driving around a curve at 25 mph, the steering malfunctioned and it was difficult to control the vehicle. Also, the brakes malfunctioned without warning, loud squeaking noises were heard, and it was difficult to stop the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to jackson Nissan (2400 seymour rd, jackson, mi 49201, (517) 788-8300) at least ten times since it was first leased in may of 2018. The dealer recently replaced the brake pads and power steering pump. The failures recurred and the contact was reluctant to drive the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer sent the contact a settlement release and offered to pay $2,000. By signing the release, the contact would relieve the manufacturer of all legal responsibility if something went wrong. The failure mileage was 100.
The steering wheel comes close to a frozen state, half way when turning left or right which is a serious safety matter. It happened at least 10 times in a month or two(sept/oct-2017). I took the car to the myatt Nissan in salisbury, nc. It took them 3 weeks to repair it during which I heard contradicting statements from them. After a week in their shop I was told by one person(west) that they were able to recreate the problem(when one of the technicians drove it). The service manager(roger) denied it never happened, but they changed the electrical steering pump for free anyway though it was 14,000 miles above the warranty. They even documented that they were not able to recreate the problem, but changed the pump any way. The reason I want to report it is of the contradicting statements and their effort to document it as non-issue, but changed the pump anyway. Clearly they are hiding something. Still not sure if the repair resolves the issue as I haven't driven it enough to validate for sure.

At slow speeds, there is a whining noise coming from the car. Dealer said it is normal as it is a new electric steering pump and not the old belt system. The problem is continuous and has not stopped.

I started my car as usual to run some errands. It started fine. I stopped at the gas station and shut off the car. It would not start again. It was freezing cold. My car was blocking the gas pump and it could not be moved. I ruled out the key fob because it still unlocked the doors. I inserted the key fob in the emergency socket that is supposed to start the car in case the battery in the key fob dies. Still nothing. I had my brother bring me a new battery for the key fob. Still nothing. He took me home. I had to leave the car there. After some internet research, many many others with Nissans were having the same issues. The culprit is the electronic steering lock module. It locks the steering wheel and you cannot start the car when it is locked. I went back to the car tore the panel apart and located the steering lock. The research I did said that sometimes you could get it to release the lock pin if you tap on it with hammer. So I stepped on the brake while holding in the start button and tapping on the steering lock module. After 20 minutes of banging on the module it disengaged enough to start the car. I drove it home and shut it off. It won't start again. Nissan says the warranty ran out Jan. 1st, 2016. This should be a recall. The dealership quoted me a price of $679. 51 just for the part not including labor. That is ridiculous! what if I were somewhere remote and the car would not start? I could have froze to death. Please look into this issue as it seems to have happened to 1000s of people.
My car was stationary at a gas pump when it failed to start. I had to get it towed to dealer to replace the electronic steering column lock (escl) unit which had failed and prevented the engine to start. Nissan had issued an extended warranty, 72 months/unlimited mileage due to known manufacturing irregularities of the escl. Unfortunately for me, the malfunction occurred after the warranty time had expired but I feel the issue is one that needs to be addressed for all owners of vehicles with possible faulty escl units.
Dec 2 2016. . On my way to work at 5am car would not start at gas pump after all fail attempt to start even by nissian pro. . Car was towed. . One hour to repair 880 dollar steering lock. . Lost 2 day pay. . Never recieved extended warranty yet was told car has 65000 excellent condition so I thought. . Nissian need to be accountable.
Arrived at a gas station to fuel up, after I was done the car wouldn't start. Come to find out that the steering lock pump (which is connected to the push to start mechanism) is worn out which stops the car to turn on.
The car steering wheel pump makes a whining noise which can be heard loud and clear. The noise is so irritating that it can out anyone have a vertigo. Yet two Nissan dealerships say this is normal, and refuse to accept it. Some Altimas have the noise asnd some do not. I strongly believe that Nissan (the company) and Nissan dealerships are colluding and don't want to make this expensive recall. This will may lead to drivers having accidents due to the highly annoying noise.
Car was brought brand new. Did not have any problems until one day my husband was driving to the dealership to have the car scheduled maintenance done at 3000miles. While driving, the steering wheel went stiff and hard to control. He managed to drive to the dealership without hurting himself and getting into an accident. The dealership stated that the electric steering pump was the problem and car has to stay for 4 days and they changed the steering pump. A few days after, I was driving the car to work which is about 2 miles or less away from home, the steering wheel went stiff on me while I was making a turn to the parking lot. I had to step on the break to avoid hitting the electric pole. Went to the dealership, they said that they needed to repair the wiring harness and something about a rust y nut that they needed to polish so it would not lose contact with the electric system??? im not sure about that part though. It was my husband and the service advisor who had that talk. My concern now is that we feel that we have a lemon car. Tried contacting Nissan corp but they said that all repairs have been done and if it happens again that they will review the case. My point is, the car is unsafe to drive. The steering wheel will give out on you while driving and might cause an accident. Please advise us on what to do with this. I almost had one in this car, I don't feel safe hauling my two kids in this vehicle anymore but Nissan would not do anything about it- well I guess not until we have an accident. I could not even bear to trade the car in because the next owners might have the same problem. . . Please help!.

My car started just fine when leaving my house, I drove it to a gas station, parked at the pump, turned off engine and filled up my tank. Upon restarting my vehicle, the engine never turned over, car will not start, or recognize key fob. My steering wheel locked up and the red car icon with a key inside of it was blinking "security device icon" as well as the orange "no key" warning lit up on console. Even after depressing my brakes, the car did not respond. I had to call roadside assistance to tow my car, as it still will not start.
Problem vehicle is 2004 Nissan Altima with 50,000 miles. Noticed when driving that steering wheel was binding when I tried to turn the vehicle. Seems like power steering is going out. Had everything checked with fluid and power steering pump. Not that so during the course of the drive the steering wheel would bind both during turning and when returning the wheel to straight. The binding (requiring both hands) to turn the steering wheel and also required extra effort to return the wheels to straight because the binding prevented the wheels from returning to straight . The binding is bad enough that it could cause an accident I am scared to drive it. Because of the effort required to turn the wheel and the difficulty in straightening the wheels. The binding force was intermittent and seemed to be related to certain places in the orientation of the wheel. After research on the internet I discovered that many other people are having this problem with similar year and model of car. Is there a recall for this problem. It really needs to be major accidents could happen. I am affraid the steering is going to go out comletely and cause a head on collision.

I was parked at a store and the car wouldn't start. I looked up a temporary fix and was able to get the vehicle started. Once I got home, I researched the problem and discovered that Nissan knew what the issue was: the steering lock assembly was malfunctioning. This is an intermittent problem. It can occur anywhere or any time. Nissan extended the warranty (just for that part) 6 years. The dealership informed me that they wouldn't honor the extended warranty unless they could duplicate the fault. . . And they would charge an $80. 00 fee. . . Just for a mechanic sitting in the car and starting it. And if I wanted to have the work done anyway, it would cost approximately $1200. 00. Obviously, I didn't leave the vehicle with them since I knew it would start at that time. The problem is, from every comment about the problem on Nissan boards, from what the Nissan dealership itself said, this is an intermittent problem. So the next time it happens I could be at work late at night. I could be driving across texas and stop for gas, then I'm stuck at a gas pump unable to shift into neutral to move the car. I (or my wife) could get stuck anywhere when this problem occurs again.
Power steering pump began making very loud high pitch whining noise after only owning the car for two days. Took to dealership and the service manager looked at it and claimed that the power steering pumps are electronic now and they do make a little noise but nothing like the noise my car was making. He contacted Nissan the very next morning and had a rep out to look at it. Currently my brand new car is sitting at the dealership not drivable because the power steering pump is on back order. Apparently Nissan has 13 of these pumps on back order so my car is not the only one with this issue. Nissan needs to look into a fix and recall these pumps before it does become a safety issue.
Nothing happen yet, but need to update and alert about a problem that can be dangerous. The Nissan Altima 2013 and 2014 have a new design for the power steering pump(electronic) this made a whisper sound inside of the cabin very high , when you drive from 0-30 miles. This continuous sound is irresistible and made you uncomforted when you drive. This is a safety concern and the decibels inside of cabin is too much. Also my autistic child is very sensitive to this sound and react again. That can be so dangerous because they irritated again the sound(you can control) and after 30-35 is go. Can you imagine have to drive all day on the city limits. I spoke with Nissan north America and they said is normal. Can we aware of the potential problem this can made, can we made the Nissan create a recall and try to solve this situation with the power steering sound inside of the cabin. Thanks.

The electronic steering control lock malfunctioned and would not allow me to turn the vehicle off. A certified mechanic had to pull the fuel pump fuse to stop the engine. Dangerous. Could not start the vehicle after shut down. Nearly $1000. 00 in repairs.
As many have already described, when driving at low speeds, the car emits a high pitch noise. This noise was not present when test driving the car and apparently only begins to manifest itself after having been driven a few hundred miles. When I brought the car in for the first attempt to fix it, we test drove a brand new car on the lot to compare the noise, and it did not make this noise. On my first attempt to fix the noise I was told there was a bulletin to address the problem but ultimately the bulletin did not solve the issue. We tried again. It appears that it is the bracket which is holding the pump in place that is causing the noise. When the mechanic removed the bracket, the noise disappeared. The bracket needed to be put back for safety reasons but as soon as we did, the noise reappeared. The mechanic ultimately did something that reduced the noise and I was happy. Unfortunately, the noise returned and when I brought it back, I was told that there was nothing to do. A regional person was going to be at the dealership the following week and I was asked to bring my car back for his assessment. His assessment was that the noise was normal. Nissan deems the noise normal because all the cars are producing the noise? that makes it normal??? the noise is unacceptable and had it presented itself during the drive, I would never have bought it. I shouldn't have to turn on my radio at a high volume in order not to hear the high pitch noise. It's embarrassing when I have passengers in the car who ask me what the noise is? I complained to Nissan customer satisfaction (that's a joke) who is telling me that if the dealership says that there is nothing to fix, then there is no problem. The mechanic said that mine is not an isolated issue and that others have brought their car in for the same problem. Corporate is taking no responsibility for this. This is not acceptable!.
The contact owns a 2013 Nissan Altima. While driving various speeds a loud noise emitted from the engine area. The defect also occurred whenever starting the ignition. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for diagnosis. The technician stated that the noise originated from the power steering pump which functioned as designed. The manufacturer was notified of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 2,000.
I got into my car with my 3 month old son to bring my fiancé dinner at work. After we dropped dinner off we stopped by the gas station to get gas. I turned off my car to pump, and when I returned to the driver seat I put my foot on the brake like normal and hit the start button and nothing happened. I assumed my car had died, but my lights would still come on and I noticed a warning light that said key. I had my 3 month old in the car and it was cold outside so I quickly flipped through the manual to find out what that light meant. After reading about it in the manual and looking it up online I quickly realized this is a recurring problem in the Altimas. I had to call my fiances father to come pick us up and have my car towed. So now I have to pay for the car to get towed and from everyone else's complaints it will cost atleast $700 to fix. Nissan has a huge issue they need to recall. I travel a lot with my 3 month old, and what if this would have happened at a random gas station far away from family. I do not feel the we should have to pay for their mistakes in making this vehicle. Something needs to be done about this now.
Parked can in front of store and attmpted to start it but it would not start. Yellow "key missing" light comes on but it won't start. Key battery is new, car battery is new, won't jump start. Car is dead. Turns out to be the steering lock mechanism. Only 57, 000 miles and this is only one of many issues we have had with this car. New battery (2) new brake switch new alternator new a/c pump new front rotor.
I am writing to you in the hope that someone will look into my complaint and safety concern with the power steering pump of the new 2013 Nissan Altima. There has been no accident to date. This complaint concerns the newly designed 2013 Nissan Altima that when driven has a constant, annoying noise that sounds like morse code. This noise problem has apparently been identified by Nissan as coming from the power steering pump due to other owner?s complaints about the noise. Nissan claims this is a ?normal noise? and both the dealer and the Nissan customer service center are aware of the multiple owner complaints about this noise, yet will offer no corrective service to eliminate this disturbing noise emanating from an apparent defective power steering pump. 2013 Altima drivers need to be warned of the possible defect of the power steering pump and to be alert and report any problems in steering while driving. As an owner of a 2013 Altima, I am extremely disturbed about the dealer?s and Nissan?s response to my complaints about the power steering pump that it is just normal noise. I have owned 7 new cars over my lifetime, the last 2 being 2009 Altimas, and have never had such a noise from the power steering pump. My car and work experience is that unusual noise from a pump means that something is wrong with the pump; and usually the pump has to be replaced before its tragic failure. Nissan's non-response to fix or replace this power steering pump in the 2013 Altima is unconscionable, and should not be condoned as an acceptable business practice regarding the safety of the vehicle occupants. I respectfully request that this issue be investigated to determine whether the power steering pump is defective or not - before there are serious accidents caused by the pump failure.
I started my car to leave for work around 6:30am and left to get gas before continuing to work. I was able to drive the car to the gas pump and turn off the engine without incident. When I attempted to start the engine after pumping gas the car failed to start. I noticed that there was an indicator in my dash that I had never seen. It was a red indicator that I would later find out showed a problem with my steering lock mechanism. The car would not move past the "lock" stage and I had to promptly have it towed to the Nissan dealership. I later found out that this repair would cost almost $800. 00 before taxes. After researching, I have found that there have been many similar claims in the past few months. I would just like for my case to be known with others that have had a similar position.
Passenger's air bag turns on and off randomly while an adult (150 lbs) is sitting while car is moving at different speeds (0 to 80 mph). I took car to dealership in January and reported problem to the service manager and he stated that it was normal. I explained to the manager how that could not be normal because the passenger can suffer serious injuries or even death if we had an accident. The service manager stated he checked the car's computer and there we no error codes. The car is not included in the recall Nissan issued in April. Now, I'm nervous/worried when I have a somebody in the passenger's side and the airbag light turns off randomly. In addition, the electrical sterring pump makes a loud vibrating noise at low speeds. Service manager stated it's not normal but Nissan does not know how to fix the problem.
