Nissan Altima's radiators need to be recalled. I have a 2003 v6 and I do every maintence possible. The radiator leaked and caused extensive engine damaged. I contacted Nissan corporate office and noone seems to be concerned even though this happens quite frequently. I broke down on the innerstate and I could have been hit from the back by another car. The service manager jeff evans at hall Nissan in newportnews, va 757 369-6600 says he had to replace a radiator in one Altima three times. I don't know why no one has recalled this but I hope this message gets to as many people as possible. Let everyone know that the new Altima may look nice but that's about all it's worth. It's just eye candy and they obviously spent more time one the outside instead of what's most important "the inside". Who wants to ride around in a car with their kids that is subject to break down? my car is still in the shop and it will cost my out of my pocket $2500. Please research this and get this message to everyone it may affect. Also I want to add that noone from Nissan wanted to take responsibility for the repairs even though they are aware of the problem. I think they don't want to recall the part because they are too busy trying to sell the new 2005 model. Thanks!.

After approximately 49,000 plus miles on my 2003 Nissan Altima, 3. 5 se, I noticed oolant leaking from the radiator. I took it to the Nissan dealership service department where I purchase the car from and I was told that the radiator needs to be replaced because it is not repairable. The dealership service personnel told me that the new type of radiators installed on these car models have plastic tops and once ruptured or damaged, cannot be repaired. I was just wondering how can this happen with my vehicle that has 49,000 plus miles in it. I had purchased the vehicle new. I was told the warranty for the radiator expired after 36,000 miles. I had the radiator replaced as suggested by the Nissan service representative and had to pay a hefty price for a new one plus labor.

as of today (oct. 4, 2006) the radiator has not been replaced. Under normal operating conditions, with no accidents, the radiator should not fail at such a low mileage. I have reason to believe a similar failure is occurring on my wife's car (40,000 miles), purchased the same month. Nissan needs to do a recall, and pay for this replacement.

Bought car used in March 2003 with 28451 miles from decormier Nissan in manchester, CT 06040. Since I have had car there have been numerous problems. No starting, car would stop running while driving, ignition coils have been replaced, cam position sensor replaced (twice), 5 recalls, brakes redone due to excessive corrision, after brakes redone needed to replace both front warped rotors, radiator replaced after bottom seam blew out. Latest problem is what I feel is excessive consumption of engine oil. Car originally did not use oil between oil changes (3000 miles). Car is currently using just over 1 quart per 3000 miles. Brought car to dealer with 52,281 miles to perform oil consumption test. Brought car back with 53,924 miles. In 1,643 miles car consumed 0. 6 quart of oil. Dealer said this is acceptable. Have since contacted Nissan of America (1-800-nissan1) to start case #4630040. I am also concerned about recall for pre-catalyst (done on 9/23/03) because there is a possibility certain engine operating conditions may cause damage to the pre-catalyst. Material from a damaged pre-catalyst could enter the engine and result in increased oil consumption. I asked the dealer about the pre-catalyst and there were not aware of this. Pre-catalyst recall is on the Nissan of America web site then why is the dealer not aware of this?.

Nissian of north America refused to replace a defective radiator. . . . . . Question how do you crack the head of a radiator at zero mile per hour in idle with nothing running accept the motor on a cool morning about 70 degree.
2002 Nissan Altima overheats, air conditioner and engine failures. Customer states that she has brought the car in on numerous occasions for the overheating, air conditioning, and engine failures. The consumer stated she was backing out of the driveway, when all of a sudden the engine light flashed and there was an immediate loss of power and no steering capability. The starter, engine control module and radiator were replaced. The thermostat was sticking which was one of the reasons the engine was overheating. The rear middle seat belt locked into place. The fuel door would not open when using the internal latch. The gear was difficult to get out of park.
In my new Nissan Altima 2003, the radiator has been replaced twice for developing a crack. The problem continues, but the dealer refuses to admit the radiator is defective and needs to be replaced again. They have many other customers having the same problem.

The vehicle was taken to two dealers and the radiator and crank sensor were replaced. The manufacturer was notified and a report was taken. The investigation concluded that the vehicle could not be replaced under the lemon law because the time had expired. The speed and powertrain were unknown. I have a 2003 Nissan Altima 2. 5s and @ 3900 miles the radiator went bad , now @ 4800 miles the radiator is bad again. Dealer is very unhelpful of situation and acts like they don,t want to fix. Germaine Nissan is 2 hours away from my home , only bought from them because I was told they were a respectable dealership. It puts almost 150 miles on my car to drive it up ther and back,and they say I don,t qualify for a loaner car.
Nissan replaced the radiator/parts three times but the consumer continued to smell antifreeze inside the vehicle. Several attempt by different service dealer have been made to alleviate the problem, but none have been successful.
Nissan Altima 2003, with several failures, leaking gasket, etc. The consumer stated the water pump failed, the windshield leaked, the vehicle would not start, the windshield wiper failed, the heater and defroster did not work, the radiator cap and thermostat was replaced and the wheels rusted.
The contact owns a 2002 Nissan Altima. The contact stated that the vehicle was leaking oil. The vehicle was taken to a local mechanic who diagnosed that the transmission needed to be replaced since water and oil were mixing together and leaking into the engine block which also caused the radiator to over heat. The engine block also needed to be resealed. The remedy did not correct the failure. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed that the engine block needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was repaired. The failure mileage was 180,000 and the current mileage was 230,000.
I am aware of tech. Safety bull. Ntb 96-009; 009a; 009b. Transmission failed 3 times. Each time it would not shift into reverse and neutral gear was a forward gear. Drive gears were not correct, often neutral. 1st 2 times, problem corrected itself after about 1 hr. Dealer refused to deal with problem until 3rd failure, claiming they needed to see the actual problem before dealing with it. They did inspect car after 1st failure but found nothing. 3rd time they did line and pressure (?) tests, which they could have done 1st two times but did not. Transmission failed. They did not attempt to determine cause of failure, claiming that Nissan corporate instructed them to replace and not investigate. Told me they were putting a "new" transmission in. Found out after work done that it was a remanufactured one. They also replaced radiator. Nissan corportate contacted after 1st failure, but refused to deal with problem. I am concerned over safety and installation of remanufactured trasmission. I own 2 other Altimas, a 96 and a 94. Should this be the subject of a recall and shold Nissan be responsible for sharing data on investigation of failed transmissions with your offices in light of TSB?.

Consumer 2002 Nissan Altima radiator was leaking.
Repairs required for 3 recalls, replacement or radiator and mass airflow sensor. However, manufacturer is willing to pay replacement of radiator, but won't pay for the replacement of mass airflow sensor.
Consumer was complaining about radiator leaks coming from the hose clamp area and the top of the radiator. Dealership had been informed; however, they told consumer that there was no problem.
