8 Seat Belt problem of the 2024 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 03/04/2024

On [xxx] I purchased a brand-new 2024 Nissan Altima sr from vaden Nissan located at 10421 abercorn street, savannah, GA 31419, phone 912-920-5600; with approximately 25 miles on the odometer. On the day of purchase, the vehicle emitted a noticeable mold odor inside the cabin. The vehicle was returned to the dealership on March 11, 2024, due to the mold odor. It was again returned on March 13, 2024, after water was discovered inside the trunk area of the vehicle. At the time of sale and shortly thereafter, water was present inside the trunk area, and the vehicle continued to exhibit water intrusion. The water intrusion appears to be associated with defective weatherstripping or sealing, which allowed moisture to enter the vehicle. On March 19, 2024, the dealership returned the vehicle to me with visible mold present inside the vehicle. The mold condition was observable at the time it was returned to consumer use. The vehicle was not professionally remediated for mold contaminated before being released back to consumer possession. A professional mold inspection later identified over 100,000 mold spores and at least ten (10) different types of mold inside the vehicle. Although the source of water intrusion was reportedly repaired on October 25, 2024, the vehicle remains inoperative and unsafe due to mold contamination. The mold condition persists despite repair attempts. I remain in possession of the vehicle, which cannot be safely driven or occupied. The manufacturer was notified of the water intrusion and mold contamination; however, the safety issue remains unresolved. I respectfully request that NHTSA review this matter to determine whether the water intrusion and resulting mold contamination present a broader safety concern and whether the handling and return of the vehicle to consumer use was appropriate given the visible mold condition. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

Failure Date: 08/01/2022

The driver seat airbag seems to be disabled. I am seeing a airbag warning light for driver airbag in the dashboard. The dealership doesnt see to car and a 4yr old car should not have airbag issues when it has never been in an accident. The driver seat seatbelt also seems to be disabled, if I step on the break the seatbelt doesnt seem to be gripping me its still freely moving which it shouldnt be. This is a big safety issue and seems to be a manufacturing defect.

My shoulder strap driver side did not restrain me and none of the air bags deployed. I flew forward towards the steering wheel and dash. Do to me being very short I didn't get hurt, just stiff neck, shoulders. The collision company who did my work stated that the seatbelt should have restrained me and at least 1 airbag should have deployed. I contacted Nissan and I was told that the air bags and seatbelts are only suppose to work in a roll over to prevent from being thrown from the vehicle and that the airbags and seatbelts are working properly. 31 Seat Belt problem of the 2016 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 12/01/2020

I have a 2016 Nissan Altima. First: I was involved in an accident in which a regular truck hauling an enclosed trailer drove over a large piece of plywood on the interstate at 70mph in front of me (also going about 70 mph) causing the piece of plywood to raise off of the road after he cleared it and it flew into the front of my vehicle and bounced up onto the hood and then hit the roof before flying off of my car. During this process, pieces of the plywood became stuck in the grill area of my car. There were no injuries, thankfully, but I am concerned the airbags did not deploy. Second: I've had this car since July of 2019. Over the past 6 months I have noticed that when I press the gas, the rpms rise but the transmission takes a bit to shift into gear causing a lag in acceleration. I have also noticed that if I am at a light or a stop and shift into drive sport, it doesn't do this. I have gotten in the habit of shifting into the sport mode when accelerating from a stop sign or red light. Third: my daughter was hit today by a truck crossing lanes to turn in front of her. She was traveling at appx 35 mph. The truck hit my passenger side front area, destroying my headlight, bumper, and grill. It was hit hard and the airbags did not deploy. The seatbelt did not lock, causing her to bounce forward and smack her head on the steering wheel. I am concerned now about the seatbelts and airbags and am more worried that they are defective after reading other complaints about these same issues. I love my car, but it doesn't seem to be very safe at all.

Failure Date: 06/01/2020

The passenger airbag issue from campaign id #r1609 in 2014 and again in 2016. The same issue is now happening again. This includes the passenger airbag light showing the airbag is not active when an adult is sitting in the seat. The seat belt light is also on showing the passenger is not buckled up when in fact the seat belt is connected and latched. This happening when the vehicle is both moving and not moving. Nissan issued a consumer affairs case number, but is refusing to fix the issue under the recall due to it being fixed twice before.
