Nissan Armada owners have reported 132 problems related to equipment (under the equipment category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Nissan Armada based on all problems reported for the Armada.
The rear liftgate of the vehicle has a kick motion sensor. The liftgate kick sensor is poorly calibrated causing the liftgate to unintentionally open from distances up to 6 feet away from the vehicle as long as the vehicle is unlocked or the key is nearby. This is a serious safety concern being reported by hundreds of owners. Nissan dealerships currently do not report any company information to remedy the issue. I am concerned with many issues where an unintentional opening of the lift gate may cause bodily harm to me, others, or damage to my vehicle or other vehicles and items around me.

On the morning of Saturday, January 31st, we went to get in the vehicle and saw that the back hatch window had begun to shatter. It did not appear to be caused by vandalism or that it had been hit by any objects. Therefore, I did not report it to the police. I did report to my insurance. I took it to a safelite autoglass repair shop and they agreed that it was a very unusual break. The glass did continue to break and came out completely. They put a crash wrap on it that day and today totally replaced the glass.

After driving in snow the rear lift gate opens unexpectedly when walking behind the vehicle. This happened while the car was parked in my garage and I walked behind the car causing the rear hatch to open pinning me between the vehicle and the garage door. I was able to push it closed, howevere, if this happened to my wife or my grandson they could have been injured because they would not have the strength to push it. This happened again after our snow last week causing it to open while the garage door was open. The tailgate crashed into the garage door damaging the underside of the spoiler. I was told after the initial incident when I braught the vehicle in for service in December that Nissan was aware of this problem but there was no solution.
While driving my 2025 Nissan Armada platinum reserve during morning rush hour traffic and moving with the speed of traffic, the accelerator (gas) pedal assembly physically broke off, causing an immediate loss of throttle control. The failure occurred in active traffic at a busy intersection located at the top of a hill, leaving the vehicle stranded partially in a turn lane and straight-through lane. I was unable to safely move the vehicle out of traffic due to the pedal detaching from its mounting point. There were no warning lights, no prior looseness, and no unusual resistance prior to the failure. This appears to be a mechanical/structural failure of the accelerator pedal assembly, not an electronic throttle or sensor malfunction. Due to the dangerous location and inability to move the vehicle, law enforcement (a sheriff) responded approximately 30 minutes later to assist with traffic safety. The vehicle remained immobilized in traffic for an extended period, and it took nearly two hours for a tow truck to arrive. This incident created a serious and prolonged safety hazard, exposing me and other motorists to a high risk of collision. The vehicle had approximately 9,700 miles and has been driven under normal conditions. The vehicle is currently not being driven due to safety concerns. The failed accelerator pedal assembly is available for inspection. I am reporting this as a potential manufacturing or material defect and believe it warrants investigation to prevent similar failures in other vehicles.
I’ve had to replace the battery three times in three years that I’ve owned the vehicle I purchased it used. The transmission jerks like it’s slipping. It has done this ever since I purchased it no recalls on transmission. The side door airbag sensor is defective. The airbag light flashes on the dashboard took it to the new Nissan dealership was gonna cost five to $7000 for the sensor so that airbag will not deploy in the driver side door. I had a 2010 Nissan Armada airbag sensor went out and the steering wheel and it was outrageous to replace that airbag sensor no recalls I will never buy a Nissan Armada again. . I have had all maintenance and upkeep completed at the dealership on my vehicle. Why is there not a transmission recall an airbag recalls on these vehicles?.

My 2019 Nissan Armada has been showing a bci malfuntion warning light for the past year and a half on and off. Sometimes it puts the truck in limp mode, it won't start, or the brakes engage and the truck will not move while in drive. This has happened well over 30 times in the last year and a half. Typically, turning the truck off and on solves the issue, but there have been instances where I needed to unhook the battery. I read there was a recall on the 2017-2019 models for this issue. However, when I looked up the VIN on this site, it says my truck has no open recalls. I took it to a mechanic, but they could not find any issues as the warning light had gone off. In the additional details below I have put the latest time this happened which was yesterday. However it has been happening since 2024.

The display is not working properly, the low window washer fluid comes on and then goes off. The light in the back of the display wants to come on but doesn't. The sensors are lighting up when there is a vehicle next to you but no warning signal. Also there is no radio and the buttons on top do not work. I researched this and there was a recall for a dcu in 2018-2019 and that seems like the problem again. I have had nothing but issues with this car since I bought it. Nissan says its the battery which is highly doubtful because they just changed that and the brake switches a million times. Bcm came up a bunch of times also in the past but Nissan cant recreate the problem which I am starting be frustrated with and dont even want this car anymore although it was my dream car.

Bci malfunction light has come on and is causing multiple other dash lights to appear as well. Turning the vehicle on/off doesn’t work to reset it.
Car started sputtering and code said misfire dealership said it was the mass air sensor said they fixed it but symptoms continued when I picked up my vehicle issue sounds like the recall reason of the fuel pump.

Bci malfunction has occurred twice with the vehicle. I almost always have my children in the car with me. The first time it wouldn’t start again after I shut the engine off. Now the malfunction lights remain on. The brake switch was replaced and isn’t the issue. I’m afraid of this happening more often and am afraid of the potential risk for sudden braking.
The front infotainment system goes out every 2 1/2 to 3 minutes this also includes the hands free phone features and backup camera. Additionally, with the hands free phone the person on the other end of the line is unable to hear the driver of the car causing the driver to not be able to make hands free calls which is a law in colorado. I took the car into the dealership as per recommendation of Nissan customer care. The dealership found that the telematics communication module is failing and a new one is required, the rep stated this has been happening a lot with the same make, model and year vehicle as mine. Additionally, the silver colored trim around the center console puts off a very bright glare that catches the drivers eye and is blinding for a couple of seconds, the only way to resolve this is to cover up the whole center console so as to be able to see when driving.
While driving on the highway in caguas, puerto rico, suddenly the sunroof glass explote it into pieces, falling inside the car. I did not pass under a bridge, there were no other cars around, simply exploted! please do something about this defect according to online sources! just don’t wait on thousands of complaints to do something since many people don’t know they could and they just rather paid and repair! very unfair that the car companies are not assuming any responsibility!.
Ignition doesn't respond when key is inserted and turned to start. Sometimes it does it, sometimes it doesn't. When it doesn't work, it usually takes about 10 or 15 times trying and then it eventually starts.

I take my vehicle to the same dealer for all services and over the past several years, I've had "battery issues" that turn out to be control module issues that require new wiring for the vehicle to run at all, battery completely drains after several small trips around town. I have fully replaced the battery, done a warranty on it after than and I'm still constantly stranded. Nissan doesn't want to cover any of the labor ($645. 00) that it requires to run at all. No parts are needed, it's just labor to reconfigure the way the alternator works but they're telling me it's my problem to fix but it's not a worn out part, it's literally the electrical. What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? battery & Smart alternator how was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? vehicle will not start, battery completely drains after several small trips around town. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? yes, they're fully aware of the problem that these Armadas are having, recalls currently on 2017 & 2019 models but they're not recalling my year, 2018! has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? yes, dealer service center several times. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? no. First started in 2019. I've gone through several batteries, roadside assistance and personal jumps due to the faulty battery leaving me stranded several times over.
I bought the car on 06/27/2024, it had 3974 miles used by the dealer, and on July 30, 024 I returned it to the dealer, it has a problem with the steering, while driving it constantly goes to the left if I increase the speed on I-20, when you shift the lever from park to drive it feels like the transmission jumps, it bumps under the car and the power on the clock screen turns off while I was driving at night. I mean, I don't feel safe driving it anymore, I asked the dealer for a change but he didn't grant my request. I need help because I left the car at the dealer and today, August 16, I still don't have a car, no one has helped me.

Bci malfunction light will occasionally come on and dealer unable to explain why and when they have its led to brake swich. Twice in two years this has also led to them replacing the brake switch in under 40k miles. Now at 53 k miles brake switch is causing issues for the third time.
My sunroof exploded without any object hitting it.
The infotainment system in my 2018 Nissan Armada failed. The issues include unresponsiveness of the touchscreen, frequent system freezes or restarts, glitches with bluetooth connectivity, loss of backup camera functionality during reboots, and a black screen. The most significant issue is incessant random reboots, which occur without any apparent cause. These reboots can continue for the entire duration of a drive or happen sporadically, leading to distractions, the loss of presets and settings, and interrupted bluetooth connections. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request. The malfunctioning infotainment system poses several safety risks. The frequent reboots distract the driver, especially when attempting to reconnect bluetooth or troubleshoot the system mid-drive. Additionally, the loss of the backup camera during reboots compromises visibility while reversing, significantly increasing the risk of an accident. The unresponsiveness and black screen further hinder safe operation, as critical features like navigation and audio controls are inaccessible. Yes, the problem has been reproduced by the dealership. They confirmed that the infotainment system experiences reboots and black screens, consistent with common complaints about this vehicle. However, they could not offer a resolution because my VIN is not included in related recalls or service bulletins. The vehicle has been inspected by the dealership, but no other parties, such as Nissan corporate representatives, have been involved in reviewing the issue though I have tried to get them involced with repeated attempts at contact via phone and email. There were no warning lamps or error messages prior to the failures. The infotainment system began exhibiting these problems approximately [insert date], and they have occurred consistently since that time. I have searched online for solutions and found that this is a widespread issue with the 2018 Nissan Armada and other Nissan vehicles in general. Many oth.
Car will not start it says push brake even when brake pedal is pressed. It will not start. However, it does start with remote starter.
A little over a year ago my car started to display “bci malfunction”, “forward collision”, “slick conditions” on the dashboard and would jolt me forward and then not allow me to accelerate. We didn’t know when it would happen because it didn’t happen every time until I got stuck at a stop light due to those lights displaying and jolting me forward and not allowing me to accelerate. I contacted the dealership and they got the car in and fixed what needed to be fixed and it didn’t do it again. Year and a half later it started displaying the same lights on the dashboard, jolting me forward and not letting me accelerate. This time I was parked in my work parking light and there was a light pole about 4 feet in front of my parking spot. I turned my car on, put it into gear it displayed those same images that I stated above, jolted me forwarded directly into the light pole causing my airbags to deploy into my neck. No one else was hurt as it was just myself in the vehicle, with the way it hit the pole I do not believe my airbag should have even went off as it should have been the passenger side airbag that should have deployed if any at all. My insurance has been contacted and is aware of the incident and it is currently at a shop being looked over. I have also contacted the Nissan dealership and they stated there wasn’t a recall on my vehicle and there wasn’t anything they could do for me.
My car shuts off and will not restart. The battery drains if I go for a short drive. I have taken and had it inspected by the dealership I bought it from and the Nissan dealership itself. I was told that it is showing no codes therefore they cannot address the issue. They drained and recharged my battery at the Nissan dealership, and it continues to happen. I have looked online and found many people with the same vehicle have the same issues. As for safety of the car I am not sure it poses a threat to anyone, but me walking home in this heat because my $35,000. 00 is not good. My mother who has many respiratory issues cannot be in this heat and when the car did not start she was forced to sit and wait for my husband to leave work for an hour to jump us. Many say to disconnect a wire but I was warned if I do anything, my warranty will be void. The Nissan dealership said because there is not a code for that, they cannot do anything. This happened yesterday and this is the 6th time since I got it.
Battery has been changed several times. First time we were told there was a recall on due to the brake light draining the battery. This was supposedly fixed and we were charged for a new battery. Within a year of new battery we experienced the same thing car not starting due to dead battery, we took it back to dealership and was told the battery they sold us was defective and we needed it to be replaced, battery got replaced (no charge since it was still under warranty). A year after that I’m back here in the dealership due to the same problem vehicle not starting due to a dead battery, now they are saying battery is not defective but they need to investigate further and in order to do that they charging me $160 dollars. Something is clearly defective that continues to drain the battery for no reason. It’s ridiculous having to change batteries every year and having the car not starting and having to jump start it every time you need to be somewhere. I have not have good experiences with Nissan I will not purchases another vehicle ever again from them, so people should be aware of all the problems and their failure to address them.
Vehicle no start - what component or system failed or malfunctioned and is it available for inspection upon request? brake switch not operating properly. Old part not available, had to have replaced. - how was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? personal safety, not knowing if the vehicle was going to start and where you would be at the time it happens. - has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? yes, vehicle was taken to Nissan dealership for issue and repair. - has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? no - were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? no.
Bci malfunction I went to start my car and had a bunch of warning lights in my dashboard along with my car not wanting to start. The alert my car gave me was bci malfunction. I don’t see a recall but upon looking up the information about this it’s really dangerous when switching lanes your car can apply the brakes on you and I have had my car for a year and 2 months and already having a serious problem like this? I’m upset! repair hasn’t been done yet but photos are showing what my dashboard looked like when it happened.
Component/system: ignition system (brake switch/start button malfunction) and power door locks available for inspection: yes, both issues are ongoing and can be demonstrated at any time. Description of the problem: my 2020 Nissan Armada platinum is experiencing two serious and well-documented issues that I believe pose a clear safety threat, especially to families like mine. First, the push-button start system regularly fails. Despite pressing the brake, the vehicle won’t start unless I exit the car, lock it, and use remote start. This is a ridiculous, repeated workaround that I’ve had to normalize—sometimes in public places or when I’m in a rush with my children in the car. After doing research, I discovered this is directly tied to a faulty brake switch—a widely reported issue among Armada owners. The problem began sporadically in late 2023 and has become more frequent since. There are no warning lights, no diagnostic codes, no notice. Dealers acknowledge the issue but Nissan has refused to issue a recall. The second—and far more terrifying—issue is with the power door locks. In early 2024, both of my rear doors stopped locking and unlocking automatically at the exact same time. That is not normal wear and tear—that is a simultaneous systems failure. And these aren’t just any doors—these are the doors my children use every single day. This means that unless I manually check and lock them every time (which doesn’t always work), my children are sitting in unlocked back seats. Heaven forbid someone walks up to my car while I’m stopped at a red light and opens the door to snatch my child—because the door isn’t locked and the vehicle didn’t secure it like it should. This is completely avoidable one—if Nissan would take responsibility. The repair cost is $900 per door. It is clearly a manufacturer defect. The dealership confirmed both rear actuators have failed. What terrible tragedy has to happen before something is done?.
I purchased this vehicle about a month ago and when trying to activate the Nissan connect services to get the advanced safety and convivence features I was told that I cannot do so because the Armada is a canadian vehicle. The SUV I purchased in USA was built for canada and the connect service that does some of the security and convenience features will not work because of the cell service built in to the SUV will not work in the USA and Nissan does not have a part replacement to make it work. I have contacted Nissan USA and Nissan canada and keep getting the run around and each pointing at the other to try to get it resolved. I was finally told that there is not option to replace parts to make the features work in the us. If a car is built for one country and the safety features will not work in another country then it should be illegal to sell those cars across boarders. I now have a $70k that does not give me the advanced safety and convenience services that is advertised to have. I have looked any many Nissan websites and do not find anywhere that these features will not work and I do not know anyone that when buying a car asks where it was manufactured. I am also told that since this is a canada VIN I could have issues getting recall notifications in the us. I am not sure if that is true as I don't think that I have any recalls open.
While traveling w/b on i78 into pennsylvania I noticed my car suddenly veering to the left. I stopped at a toll booth to proceed to the next exit to check on the problem and as I accelerated out of the toll booth the car began to fishtail wildly. After being able to bring the car under control I pulled off to the shoulder expecting, from the sound of the scraping metal, to find a blown tire. When I checked on the r/r tire I noticed it seemed to have collapsed and that the lower control arm had broken from the frame of the car leaving the car inoperable. I had the car taken on a flatbed to the nearest Nissan dealership.
The 2020 Nissan Armada platinum began with a bci malfunction notification on the dash, as well as multiple other warning lights illuminating on the same time on the dash. As well the low windshield washer fluid light came on after just changing the oil and checking fluids in mid-June. Reservoir was filled with additional washer fluid, the notification went off, but returned 30 minutes later despite the reservoir being full. Later in the day, the gear shift would not immediately engage to allow me to put the car into drive. While sitting at a stop light in a turn lane the car was put into park to adjust the navigation settings. From that point, the car would not shift into any other gear to make the car operational. Panicked and blocking traffic in the road, the car was turned off in the hopes it could be turned back on and it would engage the gear shift. The Armada would not start after that point at all. I sat for ten minutes attempting to restart the car, constantly having to get out of my car to waive traffic around me, putting myself at risk of being hit. Thankfully, a local fire dept was coming back from a call, and stopped to assist me. They blocked traffic to my right with their fire engine, and a family member came and blocked traffic from behind me with their vehicle to keep me safer than I had been. The firemen tried everything they could to get the car to start to get the car to safety as we contacted a tow truck. With no success after another 20 minutes, they had to get a long screwdriver from the fire engine to release the shift lock to be able to put the Armada in neutral. It took three firemen, and a family member to be able to push the car across three lanes of traffic, with the fire engine driving alongside my right to block traffic, pushing me into a busy intersection (at one point with an 18-wheel coming at us) to make a right onto the connecting street to a gas station parking lot to await a tow to the dealership. So scary!.
06/22 vehicle did not want to start and new battery was purchased. 07/22 vehicle did not want to start again and a message on the dash bci malfunction, took to Nissan for diagnosis. Battery was replaced. 07/24 same problem vehicle did not want to start, aaa charged battery and mentioned it needed to be replaced.
The contact owned a 2006 Nissan Armada. The contact stated while driving approximately 20 mph and approaching a stop sign, the contact became aware smoke and then a fire coming from underneath the hood. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact and passenger exited the vehicle safely. The contact stated that she had minor hip pain but did not seek medical attention. The contact stated that the fire department arrived at the scene and extinguished the fire but not before the vehicle was destroyed. A police report was filed. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The contact related the failure to NHTSA campaign number 10v517000 (engine and engine cooling) and 08v284000 (equipment) for which the VIN was included. The approximate failure mileage was 182,000.

Component or system unknown other than personal research. Suspect break sensor or possibly called stop lamp. Again, not positive. My Armada randomly will not start, leaving me stranded many times (with children). When I push the start button, sometimes the car shakes while making a horrible sound and trying to start but never starts. It has to be jumped off before it will start. Sometimes, it just clicks and does nothing. We took to our local midas, who found no codes triggered, battery, alternator, starter etc all good. We drove another week and it happened again so this time we took to the Nissan dealership. Again, they checked everything, found nothing. Upon researching myself, I'm finding many people having this same issue yet Nissan team has no clue what to fix. I'm stuck driving a car that leaves me randomly stranded or doesn't start at all for me to even leave my house. I tried looking up the part myself and adding a new one (desperate to find the issue) but I'm not car savvy and can not locate the "easy" piece near my break pedal. I'm getting desperate and should not have a car with less than 70,000 miles leaving me stranded. No warning lights appear.
The contact owns a 2005 Nissan Armada. The contact stated that the fuel gauge inaccurately displayed the fuel level in the tank while the fuel tank was empty; causing the vehicle to stall. The contact refueled the vehicle and was able to restart the vehicle. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was opened. The manufacturer informed the contact that there was no recall associated with the VIN. The contact related the failure to NHTSA campaign number: 10v074000 (fuel system, other) however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The failure mileage was approximately 192,000.
