1 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 12/17/2021

2 months after purchasing the vehicle (with 98,410 miles) it started to shutter around 40 and 60 mph. At a little over 100,000 miles it began to slip in 5th gear (overdrive). It has been getting worse in the last 1,000s. Both Nissan or the local dealer are willing to offer any financial assistance.

2 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 11/18/2021

I was at work, which is 100% depended on my vehicle, as I work in the oilfield, I was out in the middle of nowhere, when I was getting back into my vehicle, I turned the key and the vehicle would not even turnover, I was forced to walk 5 miles to get to a job site that cell phone service to make a call for help, took the truck to my mechanic, he said it was a transmission code coming up on his computer and that he was unable to fix, so I had to tow the vehicle a second time to Nissan in grand junction CO. Where they informed me that the transmission and radiator fluid has mixed together, now I'm needing a new transmission and coolant system at a price over $6000, they did let me know that this was a very common problem with this vehicle.

3 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 02/17/2021

After turning over 72,000 miles, a slight vibration was noticed during normal driving conditions. Our local transmission mechanic diagnosed the problem as a non-repairable transmission due to radiator fluid mixing with the transmission fluid: resulting in the need for a brand new transmission.

4 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 10/11/2019

Check engine light came on. Nissan diagnosed engine coolant in transmission fluid. Need new transmission and radiator.

5 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/08/2019

I bought this truck from a dealership, with 118,500 miles in, and I only drove it 1,500 miles and transmission broke, I never the warranty for the truck, and the repairs came out $4,237 dollars what can I do in this situation. Please let me know. Thanks.

6 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/05/2019

Lost power while driving, had it checked by transmission shop and turns out there is a defect in oem radiator causes contamination of transmission fluid and engine coolant. Was required to spend over $6000 out of pocket to fix.

7 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2018

The transmission in one day lost reverse drive and left me on the freeway with the motor reving up. And down and dying while the transmission just spun ,leaving me to tow it to the nearest transmission shop, the vehicle was on the freeway moving at about 5 mph with took the motor about 3 or 4 thousand rpm to move because the gears were gone and apparently from a auxiliary transmission cooler that mine needed.

8 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 05/07/2018

While driving truck on highway it occasionally felt like I was driving over rumble strips.

9 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 04/28/2018

The evidence of engine and power transfer evidently progressed over of days and regressed within a matter of hours, then minutes to the point where engine would barely start and obviously barely propel the truck over 10 mph w/engine dying out regardless of throttle or automatic shift position. I limped the vehicle to the nearest respected and qualified tech bob wells -total car care. This is the second time Nissan's lack of "due diligence" left customer down, all within a year or so. A frustrating, time consuming, and costly experience.

10 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 02/22/2018

Trans. Went out due to radatior leaking into it, went out while driving.

11 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 07/12/2017

Having major issues. Noticed a recall but it was already settled. What can I do? radiator affecting the transmission.

12 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 06/26/2017

The contact owns a 2006 Nissan Frontier. While driving 25 mph, the gear failed to work without warning. The contact was able to park the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer (younker Nissan located at 3401 e valley rd, renton, wa 98057; (425) 251-8100) where it was diagnosed that the transmission and the radiator needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 132,000.

13 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 06/23/2017

2006 Nissan Frontier - a defect that permits cross-contamination of engine coolant and transmission fluid, ultimately causing the radiator and transmission to need substantial repairs or fail entirely. The truck was in motion on a highway. When accelerating the transmission did not downshift - it felt as if the transmission went into neutral.

14 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 05/10/2017

The contact owns a 2006 Nissan Frontier. While driving 60 mph, the rpms elevated to red and the speed decreased. The engine warning indicator illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the coolant leaked into the transmission and the transmission, radiator hoses, and radiator needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 79,000.

15 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 05/09/2017

When I drive on highway, my 2006 Frontier is shaking or vibrating even if I completely stop, I have 118,000 mileage. I went to my dealer and change the spark plug, change the valve gasket cover, and do oil change because the service engine went on. I did finished the service, my service advisor called my phone and he said that my truck is ready for pick up. I arrived, went to the cashier I paid $748 for the service, got my truck. Then I drove after a munite the shaking issue is still thier so I called my advisor, he advised me to bring back and do diagnos test for $150. After the diagnose test they said they found missing accelaration and need to replace 4 ignition coil for $1114. 00 parts/labor. Unfortunately I paid $749 for the recent repair, so, because I spent a lot of money for the first repair, he only want me do 2 ignition coil replaced for $775 parts/labor.

16 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 04/26/2017

I just had to replace my transmission due to a recall. Oil and water in the transmission and radiator. I did not own the truck at the time of the recall. . How can I get reimbursed ??? this is terrible!!.

17 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 02/01/2017

Tl- the contact owns a 2006 Nissan Frontier. The contact stated that there vehicle had slowly reduced speed and had come to a complete stop several times with no warning. The dealer robert woodall Nissan, 132 union st, danville, va 24540, (434) 797-1411 had replaced the transmission however the repair failed to provide a permanent fix as the failure continued. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer who had only inspected the vehicle but was unable to determine if this was an electrical failure, engine failure or a power train failure. The contact was uncertain if the vehicle was included or excluded from the manufacturer service campaign number pc068. A remedy to repair the vehicle was not available yet from the dealer which was unacceptable to the contact. The contact was not included in NHTSA action number: dp12004 (power train). The manufacturer had issued 6 TSB on electrical, 7 TSB on the engine and 4 TSB on power train. The manufacturer was notified of the failures. The approximate failure mileage was 108,172. Dyd.

18 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 11/11/2016

While driving my 2006 Nissan Frontier the truck would not respond to the accelerator being pressed and then began jerking. The check engine light came on and it has been doing this for a couple of days. I took it to my mechanic and he said is was the radiator leaking into the transmission and destroying the transmission which Nissan knows about the defct but has chosen not to fix. If I was traveling at a high speed on the interstate and the truck did not respond to the accelerator and started to jerk a collision would have happened. The fact that Nissan knew about this defect and chose not to inform me of the problem causes considerable alarm.

19 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 09/14/2016

Due to design flaw resulting in mixing of transmission fluid and radiator fluid, transmission was destroyed and had to be replaced. Vehicle was in motion on a city street at approximately 45 mph whenever failure occurred. I have since been made aware that this is a common issue with many Nissan vehicles with similar systems. Documentation of transmission replacement is not currently in my possession, however if necessary, all documentation can be obtained from transmission repair facility.

20 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2016

There is a recall on the 2006 Nissan Frontier coolin leaking in to transmission.

21 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2016

The contact owns a 2006 Nissan Frontier. While driving 50 mph, the vehicle stalled. The contact stated that the accelerator pedal was depressed and the vehicle failed to respond. The vehicle was taken to the dealer to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that there was fluid contamination in the transmission. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 105,000.

22 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 03/14/2016

The transmission is shifting hard and I believe I have I have a similar problem that is common for this vehicle. The radiator fluid is foamy and dis-colored which I have found to most likely be tranny fluid getting into my radiator, and coolant getting into my transmission, which the way it looks, means I need to replace my radiator and transmission. I cannot contact the dealership I bought it from to help with repairs because they closed their doors. . . Only had this truck since 2/8/2016.

23 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/25/2016

Cross contamination of coolant and transmission fluid due to factory defect in radiator. Began with no heat suddenly in the middle of January. No check engine light to warn of issue. Changed out the thermonstat and noticed the strawberry foamy liquid in the radiator then search 2006 Nissan transmission problems on line. Vehicle also stops and starts very, very, slowly in intersections, on ramps.

24 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2016

My vehicles contain a defective radiator cooler tank that ruptures and forces coolant into the transmission through the cooler lines. When the coolant mixes with transmission fluid it creates a frothy liquid that eats valves, errodes seals and causes corrosion. It¿s toxic, irreversible and killed my 5-speed automatic transmission on my Nissan Frontier 2006. Now I have to pay $3,700. 00 for the repair of the transmission. Why Nissan did not repair all the cars? they knew that most of the car will brake pass 100,000 miles. Like mine. Also when you buy a car from the dealer, they do not tel you this problem.

25 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 12/12/2015

Tl-the contact owns a 2006 Nissan Frontier. The contact stated while driving at 50 mph, the vehicle stalled in the middle of the highway due to failure in the transmission. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the coolant system needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 96,000. Ng.

26 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 11/16/2015

The internal portion of the transmission cooler/warmer inside the radiator failed and contaminated the transmission and cause it to fail. A known problem in this vehicle.

27 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 10/28/2015

Coolant mixing in transmission. No warning, truck just quite working.

28 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 10/18/2015

Bought the truck used at a Nissan dealership. Had under 50k miles. 2 months ago check engine light came on and heat was not working. Had it looked at several times spending money each time but they could not find problem. Last month truck started running rough. Found out this week it needs a new transmission/radiator due to a problem that Nissan has known about for years. There was a class action lawsuit about the problem. They said my truck is too old to qualify for help. According to sites I see we do qualify and I need some help. It overheated today and broke down on highway and is not drivable. I need someone to help me with this.

29 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 09/10/2015

Tl-the contact owns a 2006 Nissan Frontier. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 60 mph, the accelerator pedal was depressed as the rpms went up but the vehicle failed to accelerate without warning. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the transmission was filled with fluid and needed to be repaired. The vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximate 127,000. Sg.

30 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 07/31/2015

I went to kerry Nissan where I bought the truck when I got the notice about the cross contamination of the transmission fluid and antifreeze due to a defect in the radiator. My truck had 88,000 miles on it at that time. I was told by the dealer not to worry because it was rare for this problem to happen. I asked about preventive measures and was told there was none. I asked about replacing the radiator. I was told that wouldn't help because it would be the same radiator. Now at 108,000 miles my transmission is shot because it's full of antifreeze. The truck has been garage kept, maintained, and looks like new. The dealer has quoted $5,236. 00 to repair. I contacted Nissan they told me I had to take it to the dealer who is charging me $95. 00 to tell me what I already know. Nissan knowing at that time they weren't going to do anything to help me. How do they settle a class action suit for 80,000 miles when all the incidents happen closer to 100,000? there should have been a total recall on all the vehicles affected to replace the radiator with a redesigned one. This is so wrong. I was planning on driving this truck another 5 years.

31 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 07/27/2015

The transmission on my truck suddenly went out with no warning during my morning commute in heavy traffic on the 202 loop in phoenix. Shifting to a different gear had the same effect as stepping on the gas, which was that the engine revved with no increase or decrease in speed. I had to coast across 4 lanes of fast moving traffic. It was an incredibly dangerous situation. I am told by the Nissan dealership that transmission fluid mixed with coolant and that it was a catastrophic failure. I have received no notices of any kind from Nissan and was shocked to learn that this is a known, commonly occurring defect and that the defect manifests instantaneously and without warning most of the time. Nissan should be held accountable for the defective system and for not notifying me that I should have the dealer fix it before they put my life and property and that of every person around me at risk. Updated 09/15/lj.

32 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 07/09/2015

Car would not start, towed to mechanic. He reported transmission needs to be replaced due to contamination. To my family this is a safety issue due to the fact that we live in a very rural area that sees little traffic nor does it have good cell phone reception.

33 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 06/03/2015

When I got out of college the first thing I wanted to do was to buy my dream car. I had been looking into getting a truck and I was debating between my number one choice a Nissan Frontier or 2nd choice Toyota tacoma. I knew the tacoma was probably more reliable in terms of minor parts yet I just loved the design of the Frontier and therefore I bought one in 2006 brand new. Ever since it has been my preferred and only way of transportation. I knew that maintaining it was imperative therefore when it came to an oil change, change of suspension trusts, transmission service, change of spark plugs; it was all done at the proper time. Yet my truck started giving me issues 4 months ago when it would shake or shimmer on road and freeway. Did several tire rotations, did suspension change, yet the issue still persisted. It all came down to a screeching halt when I was going up to sequoia national park for a hike with friends. My Frontier all of a sudden started loosing power and then the gears would just not change. Eventually my 'engine service soon' appeared and was forced to stop our trip. Had to hire a tow truck to bring down the truck and upon scanning I got a p1759 code. Upon researching I come to find out this is a common issue with not only this line of truck but also xterra and titan brands. You cannot believe my disappointment. If it were something simple I wouldn't mind but transmission?!? really?!? because of somebodies' mistake when it came to the engineering of the truck?!? and to find out Nissan is just ignoring the issue. Total disappointment and frustration! now I have to wait for our sweet government to take action since this is a perfect example of a major corporation irresponsibility and ultimately. . . . Greed. Be warned all Frontier drivers, your time will come.

34 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 05/02/2015

Radiator cracked and leaked coolant into my transmission, killing the transmission.

35 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 04/13/2015

The contact owns a 2006 Nissan Frontier. While idling or coming to stop, the vehicle would shutter. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for a routine oil change and diagnostic testing. The technician determined that there was a leak in the radiator causing the coolant to seep in to the transmission. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 92,000.
