36 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 02/11/2015

I actually had a problem with my 2006 Nissan Frontier stalling when driving down the road and found out it was because of ecm relay so I called Nissan dealer and found out there was a recall on the relay. Made a appointment to get it fixed and had them see why I had a hesitation when taking off. Long story short I show back up to get my truck and service advisor tells me I need a new transmission and radiator because of coolant and transmission fluid being mixed. The service adviser was very short with me and sure didn't want to explain anything about the problem,he just wanted me to order $5302. 87 worth parts to fix it. I don't know about the rest of you but I don't have that kind of money sitting around to buy a new transmission and radiator . This should be something that Nissan recalls apparently it's a big problem.

37 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/29/2015

I was driving on the interstate, and then all the sudden the rpms went up and I had no control with the gas pedal, like it was in neutral, I pulled over to the shoulder put it in park, put it back in drive and it started to go again, as soon as I hit 4th gear it did it again. Took it to the transmission shop and the told me it was the radiator leaking into the transmission because of a cracked line. See this has been happening frequently with this model, why no warning or recall?.

38 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 12/26/2014

Recently purchased a used 2006 Nissan Frontier from a dealer and after a couple days of driving the check engine light came on, shifted real hard and about caused an accident. After further investigation, we found that there was coolant in the transmission and vis versa. Estimated cost of repair is 5-7 thousand dollars.

39 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 10/31/2014

While in drive, vehicle does not want to shift into higher gear and took excessively long to gain speed. When this vehicle did eventually shift gears, it shifted extremely hard as if something was damaged . After diagnosed by mechanic, I was told that the radiator had leaked water and antifreeze into the transmission and both radiator and transmission needed to be replaced. I just purchased this truck two months prior. According to the mechanic, this is a problem Nissan has had and known about for several years and has not fixed or made known. I am told this will be an expensive fix, one that I can not afford anytime soon. This is a safety hazard because this vehicle could not speed up and I almost got rear ended several times. Please initiate a formal investigation of this vehicle and the above mentioned problem. This is clearly a manufacturer defect and should be corrected by Nissan.

40 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/26/2014

The automatic transmission radiator cracked and coolant leaked into the transmission rendering it useless.

41 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/14/2014

When I was driving on I-4 in orlando FL my transmisson suddenly failed from coolent leaking into it , I almost got hit by a tractor trailer when tring to get to the break down lane, come to find out this problem has been known by Nissan for quite some time and they didn't recall, I guess it will take someone getting killed before they are forced to step up and adress this know defect, not only is it costly for the fix it's dangerous.

42 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 07/16/2014

Transmission was shifting erratic had it towed to a transmission shop. They found that the valve body in the transmission was rusted from a previous radiator failure allowing the transmission fluid and anti-freeze to mix together, see odi number:10641659. Had to replace the valve body and overhaul the transmission.

43 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 07/12/2014

Contacted a mechanic because my truck would shake at speeds at or above 50 mph. It was also starting to shift very hard. The mechanic checked it out and told me that there was a very common problem with the radiator failing and causing coolant and water to get into the transmission. . . Which isnt good at all for it. Radiator and transmission are shot and need to be replaced. He tells me that Nissan has had this problem for some time now which was news to me. You would think Nissan would let owners know about a problem so severe and common. Now I'm on the hook for $4000 thanks to Nissan and it very unprofessionalism.

44 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 07/05/2014

Hello fellow "nissaners"! well, was so happy with this truck and my wife as well, because that was her first idea to purchase this good-looking vehicle. Our son was driving our Frontier to school and back home a few years ago, then to a local university. Everybody were so happy! then my son mentioned that truck is behaving very strange: heavy shaking/jumping at highway speeds around 60-65 mph. I didn't believed it till I draw myself. True! a few times I felt like heavy hit from behind, looks like someone ended up to truck's rear side! then I searched web and after some exploration realized the problem is radiator coolant contaminates with automatic transmission fluid! how?! I opened radiator cup and saw milky substance on it and transmission fluid was not a clear pink color, it was more like pinkish milk shake color! that was it!!! after almost $32k were paid in full and happy family for a few years, now a huge frustration and helplessness!!! dealers "offer a help" only if we pay full price for transmission and radiator to change - about $6k. I have not so much money!!! I heard Nissan refusing a recall on this huge issue. Mr. Nissan or whoever you are, please do something about it, are you sleeping well every night?! we don't!!! are you (mr. Nissan) afraid to go bankrupt of this big problem - I've bet you are! but think of those people who are behind the wheels of your trucks and suvs and on this cars one day might get stuck in middle of fast highway because of this failure. . . !!! I really hope somebody can hear us out there. Please do something!!! please!!! other Frontiers, pathfinders, xteras - please write your complaints!!! don't seat and wait when something will happen, or till something happens!!! thank you!!!.

45 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 05/20/2014

Radatior coolant failure leaked into transmission causing it to fail. . .

46 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 05/12/2014

I am yet another victim of the transmission/radiator problem along with hundreds, possibly thousands of other customers. Defective radiator allowed coolant to mix with transmission which is now outrageously expensive to repair.

47 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 03/29/2014

I bought my 2006 Nissan Frontier in for regular maintenance, during the dealer inspection they noticed a noise coming from the engine. The noise is a whining sound and I thought nothing of the noise until they stated that its the timing chain and that it needs to be replaced. From the research I did the timing chain is supposed to be a non-serviceable item and should last the entire life of the vehicle. Upon further investigation I found that this was a known defect that Nissan motor corp is aware of. Nissan motor corp had issued TSB's for this item and they have even been part of a class action lawsuit. Why were Nissan owners not made aware of this issue? now I am faced with a $1,500 repair decision. From what I have also read if this chain breaks it can have serious safey issues for the driver, why has Nissan not set up a recall for this issue.

48 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 03/21/2014

We bought this Nissan new in 2006 -great little truck. But recently the engine would stall and all the lights on the dash came on. Took it to our mechanic he said it was a tran code took it to the Nissan dealership and they said the coolant had gotten into the trans or vise versa (a lot to take in),so I needed a new transmission and radiator. I found this issue on your website for a recall but my vehicle was within the years of the recall but it has over 100,000 it has130 so the dealership said there was nothing they could do to help with the $5500 bill they just quoted me. Is there any help out there for me on this issue??? please.

49 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 03/07/2014

Radiator coolant leaked into the transmission, destroying the transmission. Transmission needed to be replaced, costing over $4500.

50 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 02/22/2014

I had just parked my truck in my driveway(truck was off,key was removed) when I removed two bags from the back seat area(the seat was where it all ways is) I walked in the kittchen area put the bags on the table,as I was walking back to my truck I seen the truck roll back about a foot or 2 then stop. There wasn't any snow or ice on my driveway,no black ice eather the temp around 45,sun shinning. I did see my truck roll this is the god's truth. If I would have under the truckfor any reason I my not be here telling you this. I do not us my parking break I never us it,the trans, locks when you put it in park. The time of day was 1pm this the frist I have seen this.

51 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 02/10/2014

My Nissan Frontier began making a slight engine noise at about 30,000 miles ( I am hearing impaired). The noise became more noticeable when accelerating. At about 39,000 miles someone else heard the noise and told me my timing chains were about to break due to a common Nissan defect and not to drive the car as the engine could lock up while driving without any warning. Although there was a service bulletin by Nissan in 2007 and 2009 (ntb09-128) I was not made aware of the danger of driving this vehicle. I feel the timing chain tensioning system is defective on these vehicles and is dangerous to the public. If the system fails the driver would be unable to accelerate or maintain their speed and expose them to the risk of being rear ended if their vehicle suddenly stalls. I would not have expected an engine with only 30,000 miles to fail. Had they notified me in 2007 or 2009 of the problem I could have had it repaired under my extended warranty. I had to pay to have this common and dangerous defect repaired.

52 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/03/2014

I have a 2006 Nissan Frontier with cross contamination of radiator fluid and transmission fluid. The dealer states the known defect is beyond the 100,000 mile cutoff for the extend manufacturers warranty that deals with this common and well known defect. The estimated cost of repair is 4800. 00 with the full burden resting on me for a common and well known manufacturing defect that could have been avoided had Nissan recalled the vehicles and made the repairs as soon as they were aware. There is a class action lawsuit but again my vehicle is outside of the parameters of the lawsuit. I don't quite know what to do as I like most everyone don't have $5000. 00 sitting around and unfortunately my credit is in horrible shape so I can't get a loan to pay for it nor can I qualify for a loan to trade it in. How in the world can I ever justify buying another Nissan product knowing they don't produce a safe, quality product and they are not willing to fix defective equipment.

53 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 11/20/2013

Driving going 50 trunk shut off, luckily I was able to get off the highway. It happened around 10 more times over a month before it just quit. Not having high mileage on the truck now or at the time of receiving a warranty notification back in 2012 never thought of it. So we had it towed to put on a fuel pump that it did not need $400. 00 still will not start . I started looking up reviews on Nissan to find out that Nissan has known about this in 2007 . I still owe $3600. 00 on this truck ,bought it new with 24 miles on a lease. . . Loved it. . . So after my lease was up I refinanced 2010 with 41501 miles bought a 3 yr extended warranty, never used it . Now after learning about a CO - pay for a truck really Nissan . . . My truck has 81000 miles . . I don't have 2500. 00 to put in it . Time for Nissan to recall it,and face it you have a problem Nissan . Please I need help.

54 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 11/13/2013

My 2006 Nissan Frontier has automatic transmission fluid in the radiator, and radiator coolant in the automatic transmission. The transmission is now shifting improperly.

55 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 10/09/2013

Vehicle began to shift upward and downward erratically at various speeds and rpm. It would also shake and shudder like the whole vehicle was on a rocky road -- everything vibrating from the frame to the steering wheel. Very sudden, alarming, and disconcerting.

56 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 09/18/2013

I use my truck every day. I started to getting problem with the transmission. I did a diagnostic on the transmission and it came that the transmission is infected and it need to be change. I just got these truck like 4 month ago.

57 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 09/11/2013

Driving 2006 Nissan Frontier truck on hill at stop sign went to go and trans did not pull. Rolled back into a tree. Found out about defective radiator but no recall???? useless class action law suite 5500. 00 to fix.

58 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2013

At low speeds the transmission stutters / hesitates. I've been told by Nissan that I need a new valve body. I believe my vehicle suffers from the radiator / transmission issues as experienced by many other customers.

59 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/30/2013

My 2006 Nissan Frontier se crew cab check engine light came on at about 100,000 miles. I read the code and it indicated that an emission problem (I. E. A sensor or catalytic issue) was the matter. Soon after the truck began to exhibit a strange vibration in what appeared to be the engine specifically around 40-45 mph. I brought the truck in at 101,000 miles to have it serviced at the dealership. They determined that not only did the catalytic converter need replacing but also there was radiator fluid in the transmission and the bill was over $6,000. I declined the service and immediately called Nissan north America. They explained that I was 1000 miles over the extended warranty and wished me to have a nice labor day weekend.

60 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/19/2013

I got a check engine light on my Nissan Frontier and brought it to the Nissan dealership to have checked and was told I would need to replace the entire transmission and radiator because engine coolant has leaked into the transmission and is destroying the transmission. After a quick search it seems there are hundreds if not more of people with this same issue of Nissan having a poor design and putting many people at risk by having their transmissions seize up at any given time while driving. Having coolant leak into the transmission is not a normal wear and tear issue and is gross negligence on behalf of Nissan to ignore this problem.

61 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 07/08/2013

Whilst trying to drive forward, the vehicle is unable to have enough momentum to drive- in other words the transmission is not functioning correctly. According to the mechanic I brought it to, I was advised that he has seen this happen with this make/model/year before and it is caused due to an issue with the radiator leaking anti-freeze into the transmission system.

62 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 05/20/2013

I bought a used 2006 Frontier 2 years ago and only put 20,000 miles on it and now the coolant is mixing with the transmission fluid and they want to to pay 2500 dollars to help fix it. And this bull crap. Nissan needs to man up and stand behind there vehicles. Dissatisfied customers can spread the word. Never buy a Nissan.

63 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 05/17/2013

The transmission stopped and my vehicle would not go faster than 2 mph. I could not get it uphill. I had to have it towed. It was constantly jumping forward prior to this incident. On the highway it felt like it couldn't get out of gear.

64 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 05/07/2013

Hello, I have a 2006 Frontier on it's way to the dealership right now having the radiator & transmission replaced. That is caused from the coolant mixing with the transmission. I don't know how Nissan can say this isn't a safety issue when your vehicle can stop in the middle of highway traffic due to your transmission dying. Recall needed! thank you!.

65 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 03/27/2013

While driving at 40-45 mph I would get a very loud harsh vibration that felt similar to driving over one of the warning strips on side of hiways warning you you're going off road. It also eventuall would barely move from a stop at a traffic light. Took it to local transmission repair shop that informed me the coolant from radiator leaked into trans causing the failure. Looks like I'm getting a new trans and radiator. Nissan needs to recall and reimburse all these ppl spending thousands on what is obviously a factory defect. I see complaint after complaint of the exact problem I am having. Thanks a good luck to everyone. Hopefully Nissan does the right thing.

66 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 02/04/2013

Transmission began stuttering and shifting poorly at about 114,000 miles. This is a typical symptom for a problem Nissan has known about for some time. A failure in the radiator allows engine coolant to mix with transmission fluid - destroying the transmission. So far it has cost me $1000 to have the radiator replaced and the transmission drained and refilled. $11/quart for special Nissan tranny fluid. I expect I may have caught the problem early enough to avoid major transmission damage, but will only use the truck for local trips now. This issue should be a recall issue and Nissan held accountable for repairs.

67 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 02/01/2013

While driving vehicle and accelerating, the transmission hesitated to shift and then jumped into gear causing a lurch in the vehicle.

68 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 02/01/2013

Coolant has entered transmission fluid, this can cause the vehicle to become immobile in traffic, intersections, etc.

69 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/17/2013

The contact owns a 2006 Nissan Frontier. The contact stated that while driving 5 mph, the vehicle stopped accelerating. The contact stated that she turned the vehicle off and smoke emitted from under the hood area. The vehicle was towed to transmission specialist for inspection where they advised the contact that liquid from the radiator leaked into the transmission. As a result, both the radiator and the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified and advised that the vehicle was not under recall. The VIN was not available. The failure mileage was 111,000.

70 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/15/2013

My Nissan dealer told me I need timing chain guides and it would cost me $1600. 00, then I go on line and Nissan new about this problem in 2009. They said if I had 60,000 miles they would have covered this, they new this was going to happen and did not tell me. This is fraud and something should be done about this. This problem is happening all over the country on these vehicles. What are you going to do about this?.
