Fuel gauge is no longer accurate. Nhtsa campaign id # 10v075000 was issued for 2006 Nissan Frontiers. I called Nissan but they said my VIN number was not included in the recall. Apparently they think it's just a coincidence that I'm having the exact same problem with my 2006 Nissan Frontier. "Nissan is recalling certain model year 2006 and model year 2008 Frontier, xterra and pathfinder vehicles. The molded fuel tank shells can deform, causing the fuel sender float arm to contact an embossment molded into the tank shell causing the instrument panel fuel gauge to show that the vehicle has approximately one quarter tank when the fuel tank is empty. Fuel gauge reads just under a quarter tank at all times, no matter if the tank is empty or full.
2006 Nissan Frontier. Consumer writes in regards to several vehicle recall notices and other mechanical failures. The consumer stated his vehicle showed signs of engine problems, the second year after he purchased it. When the consumer took the vehicle to the dealer for the fuel system recall, he was informed the vehicle had an oil leak, and the engine was bad and needed to be replaced, after only having the vehicle for three years. The consumer stated the gas gauge has since stopped working again. The engine stalled on several occasions. The consumer stated he has since received a recall notice regarding the engine. The consumer took the vehicle to the dealer, to have the recall performed. However, the dealer stated after the repairs were completed, there was still a major problem with the engine, but it was not a part of the recall.
The contact owns 2006 Nissan Frontier. The contact stated that the fuel gauge did not indicate that the fuel tank was empty. As a result, the vehicle stalled while driving 65 mph. The manufacturer denied assistance with the repair because the VIN was not included in the recall associated with NHTSA campaign id number 10v075000 (fuel system, gasoline:storage:auxiliary tank). The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure and current mileages were 83,000. . . Updated 04/26/12 updated 04/30/12. . . . . Updated 05/21/12 the consumer stated the recall was fixed. However, he was charged because his VIN was not included in the recall. Updated 05/31/12.
The instrument panel fuel gauge to show that the vehicle has approximately one quarter tank when the fuel tank is empty.
This complaint is in regards to NHTSA campaign # 10v-075. Summary of the issue we are having is the same as the one stated in the recall. Due to a problem with the fuel sender float arm, our fuel guage is showing that the vehicle has about 1/4 of a tank when the fuel tank is empty. We took the Nissan Frontier to a dealer to get this problem fixed and that told us that they would not fix the problem for free (as stated would happen in the recall notice) because the vehicle had too many miles on it. They confusingly tried to discribe that the issue was a warranty extension and not a recall. We then call Nissan national customer affairs and they confused things even more. I was told by a service rep manager that there was 2 service programs for the problem we were having. One was a "recall" that would be fixed without date or mileage limits. In this situation, the problem caused the fuel guage to be stuck on full. The other was a "warrantly extension" that had a date or mileage limitation. In this situation, the fuel gauge would be stuck at about 1/4 tank when the tank was really less than that or empty. This is completely inaccurate information regarding what is stated in this safety recall campaign. I was told by the national service rep manager that Nissan will not fix this problem under this recall campaign.
Fuel gauge on 2006 Nissan Frontier indicated 1/4 tank of fuel when it was actually empty. I ran out of gas on a busy highway, very dangerous exit to side of road.
I recently had a "service engine light" appear and when I had it diagnosed at the dealer I was told it was a fuel sensor failure that is located in the gas tank. . I of course agreed to have it serviced which they did and reset the engine light. I was researching another issue with my vehicle when I stumbled across a recall on this same year truck for the same items I just paid for. The recall by Nissan ntb10-031a issued in may 19, 2010. This recall extended into 2011. It seems ironic that within a few months period I had a fuel system failure that required the same service and exactly the same parts replaced as described in the recall. I feel this was just too close and too much of a coincidence to not fall into this recall.
The contact owns a 2006 Nissan Frontier. While driving approximately 50 mph, the contact noticed that the fuel gauge displayed an empty reading with a full consumption of fuel in the tank. The fuel gauge reading fluctuated whenever the vehicle was in operation. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer and was repaired three times under recall number 10v075000 (fuel system, gasoline: storage: auxiliary tank). The remedy did not correct the problem and the failure continued. The failure mileage was approximately 73,000. The VIN was unavailable.
The contact owns a 2006 Nissan Frontier. The contact stated after dispensing fuel into the vehicle, the fuel gauge would register that the vehicle was empty. The check engine warning indicator illuminated whenever the vehicle was on it remained illuminated until the engine was turned off. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for diagnostic testing. Nhtsa campaign recall id number 10v075000 (fuel system, gasoline: storage: auxiliary tank) was associated with the failure. The VIN was not included in the recall; although, the vehicle experienced the similar failure. The manufacturer was made aware of the defect and provided no assistance. The contact stated that the vehicle will be repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 80,000.
On approximately 10/9/2010, my fuel gauge stopped working correctly (approx. 39k miles on the vehicle). With about 1/4 tank full, I filled the tank but the gauge did not register "full". After a day or two, the gauge registered correctly. It has been working intermittently since this time and now there is a "service engine soon" light appearing. This problem is widely reported by Nissan truck owners.
I own a 2006 Nissan Frontier pickup. The fuel sending unit is defective and I have no way of knowing how much gas I have. This is not an inconvenience. It is a safety issue. I could run out of gas in traffic, causing an accident or I may have to replace it myself since I cannot afford to have the dealer do it. The repair is hazardous as it deals with removal of the fuel tank. 1/2 of the VIN numbers for this year Frontier have been recalled for repair of this defect and 1/2 have not. Those not recalled are experiencing the problem and Nissan is refusing to fix the problem.
The fuel gauge gets stuck on 1/4 tank or shows no gas even when full. There is a recall on this year model for this problem but Nissan will not replace it because they say it was manufactured in the correct month. They did say the problem was more vehicles then the recall covered and for those vehicles they extended the warranty to 72 months or 72,000 miles so the dealership could fix it. Seeing as my vehicle has 90,000 miles they said they have no intentions of fixing this problem under the recall.
2006 Nissan Frontier with fuel gauge not working correctly at approx 55,000 miles on vehicle. Initially service engine soon light came on intermittently when the fuel reached approx 1/4 tank full. Now, ses light stays illuminated and actual gas gauge intermittently works. This is well documented problem addressed many many times on vehicle forums. This is a serious safety issue as I have no idea of how much gas is in my vehicle and the potential exists for an accident on a major road due to a real gas outage. There has been a safety bulletin about this but no recall yet to my understanding and has occurred throughout many different Nissan truck models from the xterra, pathfinder, and Frontier.
After filling gas tank it drops to empty and service engine light comes on. After 43 miles it goes back up and then seems to work until next fill up. If idling in park for a few minutes it drops to empty again. Then the next day it goes back up again. It is constant problem and I never know how much gas I have other than tracking milage. Recall many others with same problem. Thanks.
This is a complaint about the same problem I'm having with my 2006 Nissan Frontier. I called Nissan and mentioned the recall notice for this and they would not guarantee that it would be covered. At this point the only way I can be sure that my vehicle has gas in it is to track the miles every time I fill up the fuel tank. The fuel gauge is useless and if I fill it up it immediately says it is empty, the yellow light comes on and my check engine light comes on. Even the Nissan recall notice says this is a safety issue but when I called them they said I "might" not be covered. . . . . 2006 Nissan Frontier with fuel gauge not working correctly at approx 80,000 miles on vehicle.
The contact owns a 2006 Nissan Frontier. The contact stated that he refueled the vehicle and proceeded to drive 70 mph when the fuel level gauge displayed that the fuel level was empty and the low fuel level warning indicator was illuminated. In addition, the service engine soon light was illuminated. The contact stated that the fuel level gauge would only display accurate fuel levels when the fuel tank was approximately three-quarters full and would fail when the fuel tank was down to three eights of a tank. The failure began two months prior and the vehicle was taken to a local mechanic where the contact was informed that the fuel level sensor would need replacing. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 65,000 and the current mileage was 71,000. Updated 01/20/11.
The fuel sending unit broke down and the gauge shows there is fuel left in the tank while it is actually empty. Danger since it increases the risk for a crash. Other VIN numbers same year and model has been recalled but mine not included.
2006 Nissan Frontier's fuel gauge is sporadic. It will read 1/4 tank and then suddenly drop to empty and the low fuel light comes on. After filling, it may take an hours for the gauge to read full. Shortly after the problem started the service engine soon light came on. Computer error says error po463 fuel level sensor circuit high input probable cause: this is a safety issue. From NHTSA campaign #10v075000: "this could cause the vehicle to run out of gas and stall in traffic increasing the risk of a crash". Nissan dealer service tech. Told me this a big issue with many more vehicles than the recall (NHTSA camp. #10v075000) covers. I contacted Nissan to ask if they planned to expand the recall. They said no and declined to assist with even the part for the 500 part. From looking at numerous forums and this site. I can see that the are many owners in the same situation--a defective gauge and their vehicle not covered by the current recall(s). I don't know the statistics on what it takes to trigger an expanded recall but I hope NHTSA looks into it.
The contact owns a 2006 Nissan Frontier. The contact received repairs to the vehicle under NHTSA campaign id number: 10v075000 (fuel system, gasoline: storage: auxiliary tank). Following repairs, the contact filled the vehicle with gasoline fuel and the fuel level indicator would not read accurate fuel levels. The dealer advised the fuel tank would need to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The current and failure mileages were 63,000.
2006 Nissan Frontier le 4x4 with may 2006 build date. Fuel gauge stopped registering upon fill up. Gauge needle drops to empty with low fuel light within 2 miles of fill up, followed by service engine soon light. After 3-5 days of driving, gauge intermittently starts reading actual fuel level and ses light goes off. Consequent weekly fill ups have exact same results. Nissan dealer says an active recall for fuel sending units does not cover my VIN. Impossible to tell how much fuel is in tank exactly on any given day. I use miles driven as gauge, and reset upon fill up weekly for a rough estimate.
At about 37,000 miles, the fuel gauge on my 2006 Nissan Frontier started reading "empty" no matter how much fuel was in the tank, and the "check engine" light came on continuously. The fuel sensor was replaced with a "revised" unit and now at 46,000 miles, it is reading "empty" all the time, even when the tank is full.
The contact owns a 2006 Nissan Frontier. The ignition was started and the contact observed that the fuel gauge displayed empty, after dispensing gasoline into the fuel tank. The failure occurred on several separate occasions to include inaccurate readings. The check engine warning light also remained illuminated on the instrument panel. An authorized dealer was notified of the failures. The technician stated that there was not a safety recall and the service warranty would not cover the repair expense. The vehicle had not been repaired at the time of the complaint. The failure mileage was 37,500. The current mileage was 37,760. Updated 05/18/10.
The fuel gauge shows the vehicle has approximately 1/4 tank of fuel. It seems to stay there for some time, then after some mileage drops completely below empty, the fuel warning comes on solid (not gradual before this failure). All indications upon filling up is that the tank is close to empty. All indications appear to be identical with a similar recall for the same recall for the Nissan Frontier xe models both before and afterward in the 2006 model year. Mine manufactured 08/06. That recall is NHTSA campaign id number: 10v075000.
Nissan 2006 Frontier se crew cab. Check engine light comes on; and check has a "p0463" code. Gas gauge does not give accurate fuel level. Occurs all the time. Sometimes the check engine light goes out, but will light up especially if near empty or after filling up. No correction; except to spend $800 at Nissan dealer to replace part of the fuel tank assembly.
Fuel gauge stopped working, making it impossible to tell how much gas is in the tank. This is dangerous and a huge inconvenience requiring me to fill up way before necessary to avoid have the truck run out of gas in the middle of the freeway. There was a recall, but my VIN didn't qualify. This is a much bigger problem than Nissan is acknowledging. They need to extend the recall to all vehicles with this fuel system design.
Molded fuel tank shells can deform causing the fuel sender float arm to contact an embossment molded into the tack shell causing the instrument panel fuel gage to show vehicle one quarter tank when the fuel tank is empty. Vehicle ran out of gas and stall in traffic, increasing the risk of a crash.
As my vehicle uses gas the gauge sticks at about 5/16 to 3/8 full. This action causes the fuel gauge to then do unusual things such as fall to empty and throw a fault code to the obd ii. Or the fuel level on the gauge will stay at approx. 5/16 to 3/8 full for a prolonged time while driving. I have contacted Nissan but they say the trucks build date falls outside of the vehicles which have been recalled. It sure seems to me that I too have a gas tank with the deformity which causes the fuel float to "catch' or "stick'.
Nissan Frontier 2006 all have a common defective part, the fuel level sensor. I have this truck and at approximately 43,000 miles, the sensor went out giving me the "service engine soon", code number p0463. The Nissan dealer said it would $350 to replace, at my expense. After further research in internet forums, this is a common defect with all 2006 Frontiers with the sensor going out at approx 42,000-43,000 miles. The fuel gauge no longer functions, leaving the owner not knowing how full the fuel tank is. There are post on various forums of drivers being stranded with an empty tank due to this defective part. Nissan has recalled some of the vehicles for this defect but when I advised Nissan customer service that my truck had the same defect, I was told that my VIN was not part of the recall. It is clear that the recall needs to be broadened to all vehicles produced in that year.
2006 Nissan Frontier fuel system. After fueling up my pickup, the check engine light comes on and gas gauge show empty and dte computer goes out. Being a component of the fuel system this can be dangerous. Any malfunction in a gas tank should warrant investigation and resolution.

I don't know the statistics on what it takes to trigger an expanded recall but I hope NHTSA looks into it. I've checked with other online forums for Nissans & there are many other people having the same problem. Nc requires that we get our vehicles inspected every year. My truck will not pass with the service engine light on. . . Please help!.
The contact owns a 2006 Nissan Frontier. The fuel gauge displayed empty when the gasoline tank was full or empty. The vehicle was taken to a local mechanic who stated that the failure was caused by the fuel sending unit. The manufacturer advised her that the VIN wasn't in the recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated the she doesnt have a telephone number were she could be reached. The failure mileage was 56,000 and the current mileage was 83,000.
06 Nissan Frontier fuel sending unit failed, 460,000 miles. The gas gauge shows 1/4 full when I just put in a full tank of gas. It should show a full tank of gas, but it doesn't it just shows a 1/4 tank full. This is a known problem that Nissan should take care of. I'm surely not the only person too complain about this problem. What does it take to get a recall on this problem?.
I have a 2006 Nissan Frontier, my gas gauge and vehicle computer that reads the gas level is not working. It left my new born baby boy and wife on the side of I-95 in port orange florida because it showed gas in the tank when there was none. Upon doing research I found this is a problem that occurs in many Nissan model spread out around the year of our truck. I feel that this is a problem that needs to be taken care of by the dealer though a recall on the fuel sending unit. This is not an isolated problem but one that reaches many Nissan owners. Thank you.
The contact owns a 2006 Nissan Frontier. The fuel gauge displayed that the fuel tank was full when it was empty and empty when it was full. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who stated that the fuel sending unit needed to replaced for $500. The manufacturer was calledl and confirmed that his VIN was not included in the recall. The failure mileage was 31,000.
Fuel level gauge on my 2006 Nissan Frontier [xxx] gives sporadic readings: reads empty when tank is full. After several miles gives apparently accurate reading until approximately 1/4 tank when it suddenly reads empty. This usually (but not always) occurs. Nissan claims this VIN is not covered under the current recall of this model for this exact same problem, and insists they have no obligation to fix it.
