36 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2010

Year, make and model: 2006 Nissan Frontier error: erratic fuel gauge reading. Show 1/4 tank even when empty or totally empty when it was just filled. Action taken: spoke with Nissan on the symptoms and the error code received from diagnostics (p0463) which states that it is the fuel level sending unit, but they informed me that my VIN is not on the list, and I would need to file a complaint form on NHTSA to get resolved.

37 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 12/15/2009

Gas gauge sporadically would not register the gas when we filled up the tank. Quoted $500 to repair. Heard radio news a couple of months ago that Nissan was recalling vehicles due to seat belts, gas gauges and exterior lights. The problem now is continuously - when gas gauge reaches 1/2 tank, it drops to empty. Problem has not been corrected yet.

38 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 12/03/2009

I am an owner of 2006 Nissan Frontier crewcab se. Since day one at random while filling the fuel tank it pukes gas out onto side of truck, ground and me. The dealership where I purchased my truck were jerks, said it was the pump design at the station. Just dismissed me, "try another station. " I have since talked to other owners having the same problem. This a health, safety, and environmental hazard.

39 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 11/20/2009

Fuel gauge on 2006 Nissan Frontier does not always work, leading you to believe you have more or less fuel than actually in the tank. My truck is not included in the recall announced on March 2, 2010, yet has the same problem. I've spent $250 to have this repaired and feel I should be compensated.

40 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 11/18/2009

Drove home from work with 1/4 of tank. . . Went to fill it all the way full. . . . Started engine, service engine check light turned on. . . And noticed the tank is not registering its full. . . Started driving. . . After a mile fuel gauge drops to empty and low fuel light turned on. . . Went home and did some research. . . And im surprised its not just me that have this same problem. . . . We need to do a recall for this.

41 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 11/02/2009

Fuel gauge malfunctions when gas tank is full. When the tank is fully filled, the gauge indicates empty and the gas light remains on. Other times the gauge reads at different levels, mostly half full or one quarter tank.

42 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 09/18/2009

Defect on level sensor of the fuel tank, caused the check engine light to come on, and the fuel meter to malfunction. This defect could lead to run out of gas at any time putting any passenger in danger while in the highway. This is a very common problem with Nissan path finder, Frontiers and many others especially 2005 to 2007 models. Nissan dealers are charging about 600. 00 dollars to fix something that they do defective and continue to do defectively.

43 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 08/10/2009

"I have a 2006 Nissan Frontier. I had 1/4 of a tank of gas and went to fill up. After filling up my gas tank, I turned on the car, at which point the needle did not register the full tank. After driving a couple miles, the check engine light came on. I went directly to the dealer and was told that it was a fuel sending unit/sensor and that it was no longer covered after 41k miles. After returning home and doing research, I went online to x. Nissanhelp. Com after performing a search, I came across many others who have experienced the same problem. Apparently it has something to do with the fuel sending unit. A similar problem was found on the 2000-2004 xterra models and a recall was performed when the vehicle would stop after not getting any fuel, posing a great danger. It seems that something in the unit is faulty and will corrode over time. There is a general consensus that everyone who is having the problem is experiencing the same thing after having the vehicle for over 2 yrs and with around 39k-49k. If this problem existed in previous models, and it was recalled, the 2005-2007 xterras, Frontiers, and pathfinders should get this fixed at no charge to the customer!! why wait for accidents and possible deaths, especially since the problem lies in an integral part of the vehicle. Cost of repair ranges from $300-600. ".

44 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 07/12/2009

2006 Nissan Frontier le with 45,550 miles. Fuel gauge stopped working and dropped to empty with a full tank of fuel. Distance to empty and mpg dashboard data turned to just blinking dashes -------. Check engine light illuminated. Coral springs Nissan, coral springs, FL would not take vehicle until fuel level was at 1/4 tank or below. I have to drive vehicle for 1 week to drop fuel level and deal with an inaccurate fuel gauge. . . Never knowing truly how much fuel I had along the way. Turned out diag. Code p0463, under nsb07069a,,,which was fuel level sensor. Fortunately car was covered under extended warranty with a $50. 00 deductible. . . . Otherwise this is a 600. 00 repair. This is an all too common Nissan problem that Nissan recognizes. . . Some vehicles the fuel gauge never moves and you think you have fuel in the tank. . . . . A safety issue!!! !Nissan should be forced to do a recall on this issue.

45 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 06/15/2009

The contact owns a 2006 Nissan Frontier. While driving approximately 35 mph, the contact noticed that the fuel gauge registered an inaccurate reading at any fuel level in the fuel tank. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who stated that the fuel tank sending unit needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 60,000. Updated 04/05/lj updated 04/05/11.

46 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 04/28/2009

06 Frontier fuel sending unit gone haywire. Gas gauge not working properly. Have seen hundreds of the complaints w/same problem. Nissan doesn't seem to worried about the problem, seeing there is no recall. Sure hope me or my family is not stuck in a vulnerable situation because of it. I'm hearing that its a short in the wiring of the unit inside the fuel tank that doesn't sound to good to me. Vehicle is out of warranty.

47 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2009

Fuel level gauge not indicating proper level. Especially occurs immediately after fill up. Sometimes within a day or so the gauge will move to correct level and work fine until the next fill up. Other times gauge will show empty even with plenty of fuel in tank. The service engine light is also sporadic. This has been happening for over a year. Mileage when first occurred 45000.

48 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 01/21/2009

2006 Nissan Frontier king cab fuel gauge sensor malfunction , 47 kmiles on truck reported 600 dollar repair at dealer, internet search , very common Nissan needs to recall and repair, fault is corrosion on fuel tank electrical connection.

49 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 01/10/2009

The fuel sending unit has quit working for the second time which causes the fuel gauge to give false readings. Nissan replaced the unit when it quit at 10000 miles under warranty but, now the vehicle is out of warranty and the unit is not working again. After talking with several owners of the same vehicle I found out we are all having the same problem, going through multiple units. Nissan does seem to be fixing the problem but, just coving it up. After talking with the dealership they do not want to try to cover it, they want me to pay $400 for parts and labor which I am not going to do. Besides the fact that $100 for parts and $300 for labor is outrageous I am not going to replace this part just have it fail again. This part should be on a recall because it is clearly defective and not a part that should have to be replaced 2, 3, or 4 times or even at 10000 miles. Now my problem is the truck seems to be using more gas because of this. I have been going off of the mileage because I know my vehicle will do a little over 400 miles on a tank of gas but, it left me on the side of the highway in a bad neighborhood at 11:30 at night with 352 miles showing. My girlfriend also has to drive this truck and I fear her safety when she is driving the vehicle. She could get stuck in a bad neighborhood or in dallas, TX traffic it is not easy to get to the side of the road when it runs out of gas. Also, this problem sets off the check engine light and the vehicle inspection is out. They will not let the vehicle pass with this on.

50 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 01/06/2009

2006 Nissan Frontier nismo's fuel gauge is erratic. It started at about 37,000 miles, but I ignored it because I had allowed the warning light to go on and thought that after a few fill ups it would register correctly, but it did not leaving me stranded on the road. The dealer, although they acknowledge this is a common defect in the vehicle, asked for over $400 to repair, which I do not have. Now I have to keep filling the tank after every 200 -250 miles fearing I may run out of gas again. There should be a recall on this as it creates a safety hazard such as when I ran out of fuel on the turnpike.

51 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 01/04/2009

The fuel gauge in my 2006 Nissan Frontier is faulty. It either shows a lower level of gas than what is in the tank or it shows the tank is completely empty. It also causes the service engine light to appear. This started at about 38,000 miles.

52 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 12/30/2008

Error code po463 comes up on check engine light. Fuel level sensor malfunctioning gas gauge still remains at empty even though the tank is full. Seem to have a lot of people with Nissan trucks having the same problem.

53 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 12/17/2008

Went out one morning to go to work and the fuel gauge read e. Re-started the truck and the gauge went to 3/4 tank. Drove to work and back, went shopping, than re-fueled and the gauge was on e again . The service engine light also came on at this time. Called dealership and they said there was no recalls on it and that my warranty was expired, took the truck to a mechanic who cleaned a part near the tank and cleared out the codes. It worked for about a week. Drove the truck that week and re-fueled. Gas gauge stayed on e with the service engine back on. Called dealer and the cost is around $700. Waiting for the price from my mechanic.

54 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 12/07/2008

2006 Nissan Frontier pickup - gas gauge is sluggish to move upward after a fillup. Takes several days to register accurate tank level. Also, check engine light intermittently comes on. Occasionally drops to empty and empty tank indicator light comes on and then gradually moves to correct level. Have had in shop several times without success. Vehicle has less than 50k miles on it.

55 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 11/14/2008

The fuel sending unit on the truck failed at about 38k miles. The gage is slow to respond to a fill-up 30-60 minutes to register full. It functions normally until around half a tank, then the needle drops to e and the empty tank light comes on. After refueling the truck several times it was still half full of fuel. The check engine light has been on since the start of the problem. Online boards have indicated that this is a common problem on this truck. A code scanner at a parts store also said that it was a problem with the fuel level sending unit. I will probably replace the part myself.

56 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2008

2006 Nissan Frontier fuel gauge erratic indicating empty when below 1/2 tank full. Suspect float or sensor in fuel system.

57 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 09/18/2008

Vehicle gas gauge does not work. When I fill up the tank the gauge will show full, and the light will go off. Then as the fuel is used up the light will come on even though the tank is 3/4 full.

58 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2008

The fuel level sensor on my 2006 Nissan Frontier crew cab stopped working right after the warranty period was up. It started fluctuating and giving false readings, then stopped working all together. Since the fuel sensor is tied to the check engine light, I was unable to obtain a safety inspection sticker until the item was repaired. To repair this, the fuel tank had to be removed. This cost me 400 to fix. I believe the unit to be defective, as I have been seeing more consumers who purchased this truck logging the same complaint. Furthermore, I have a fear that is the unit is shorting out, it could cause a fire. After all, it sits on top of a 20 gallon fuel tank. This should be recalled!!!.

59 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 08/18/2008

2006 Nissan Frontier xe 4 cylinder manual trans. At approximately 35,000 miles my fuel gauge stopped working after filling up, and read empty. The check engine light came on immediately. The fuel gauge began behaving erratically, sometimes reading correctly without the check engine light on, but always malfunctioning at approximately half tank, causing the check engine light to come on. Then it ceased to function at all with the check engine light remaining on. Nissan of santa rosa told me it would not be covered under my q certified power train warranty 100,000 miles or 2 years. Nissan told me it was a problem with the fuel delivery system, and the sensor inside the gas tank needed replacement, at my charge. Also, I cannot have my evap emissions system recall work performed until the fuel delivery system problem is fixed. As a result I cannot complete my vehicle registration for this year. I demand a recall of the fuel delivery system for the 2006 Nissan Frontier. Thank you.

60 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 05/12/2008

One day without warning check engine light came on and fuel level gauge became incorrect and erratic. This happened at approx 38000 mile just out of warranty. I have ran out of gas in traffic because my fuel gauge was reading 1/4 tank and there was none. Having to fill my vehicle in traffic is a major safety concern.

61 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 01/07/2008

Summary: Nissan is recalling certain model year 2006 and model year 2008 Frontier, xterra and pathfinder vehicles. The molded fuel tank shells can deform, causing the fuel sender float arm to contact an embossment molded into the tank shell causing the instrument panel fuel gauge to show that the vehicle has approximately one quarter tank when the fuel tank is empty. My VIN si [xxx] Nissan claims my vehicle is not part of the recall when it is obvious that im having this issue and have had it for some time now. Nissan is refusing to honor it's customers. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

62 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 09/12/2007

2005 Nissan Frontier - gas gauge was not working, and not showing that I had gas in my tank. Then it began giving me problems, misfiring while driving and "service engine soon" light appears. I took it to a Nissan dealership who told me that the fuel level sensor a circuit high input needed replacing. Since I was not under warranty, I had to replace fuel sending unit. My job at the time, required me to drive alot, though the car was barely two years old. I had over 30,000 miles. Still, the problem cost me over $800!!!! and in all respects, it was a problem with a defective part - not because I drive it. I am sorry I ever bought this vehicle - I should have bought a Honda element (my wife's car) she has never had a mechanical problem in the four years she has had the car. Nissan makes a trash pickup. Disgruntled and frustrated over Nissan's incapability to produce a better vehicle, and replace faulty parts. They obviously need the money!.

63 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2007

I own a 2006 Nissan Frontier cc 4x4 in which the fuel tank sending unit is faulty and Nissan tells me my vehicle does not fall within their current fuel sending unit campaign. The sending unit failed at approx 44,000 miles. I currently have 66,000 miles on the vehicle. I have run out of gas once when it first happened. Now I put gas in it every 2 days regardless of what the gauge says.

64 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 01/21/2006

The contact owns a 2006 Nissan Frontier. The contact stated that after receiving a recall notice in reference to NHTSA campaign id number (10v075000-fuel system, gasoline:storage:auxiliary tank). The vehicle was taken into the dealer to be repaired; however, immediately after leaving the dealer the failure recurred. He also stated that the tire pressure sensor gauge had malfunctioned since the day that the vehicle was purchased. The warning light illuminated on the instrumental panel. The vehicle was inspected by a dealer who informed the contact that they were unable to diagnose the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The transmission also failed when the vehicle staled and he was unable to get it restarted. The vehicle was inspected by a dealer who replaced the transmission. The failure mileage was approximately 47,000.
