49 problems related to radiator have been reported for the 2007 Nissan Frontier. The most recently reported issues are listed below. Please also check out the statistics and reliability analysis of the 2007 Nissan Frontier based on all problems reported for the 2007 Frontier.

1 Radiator problem

Failure Date: 06/28/2020

The contact owns a 2007 Nissan Frontier. The contact stated that while his son was driving 65 mph, the vehicle vibrated abnormally with the check engine warning light illuminated. The driver pulled over and called the contact for assistance. The contact drove the vehicle back to the residence. The vehicle was later taken to petro Nissan (6248 us-98, hattiesburg, ms 39402) where the vehicle was diagnosed with a defective transmission and radiator. The manufacturer was notified of the failure however, offered no additional assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 114,000.

2 Radiator problem

Failure Date: 05/08/2019

Transmission was damage due to water coming from the radiator. Mechanic explained it to me to be a recall.

3 Radiator problem

Failure Date: 07/12/2018

Transmission failure due to radiator coolant leaking into transmission. Driving condition resulted in sudden hard downshifts and eventually led to a no start condition. Upon inspecting, the at control fuse was blown and when replaced the vehicle cranked, only to have the fuse blow again. The transmission, likely need to be replaced to remedy the issue. This issue is known and unfortunately, little has been done to hold the manufacturer accountable.

4 Radiator problem

Failure Date: 04/22/2018

The automatic transmission cooler that is internal to the radiator leaked coolant into the automatic transmission causing excessive friction destroying it. Nissan knew of the problem yet failed to warn owners that they could avoid a $6000 repair by replacing the know defective radiator for less than $1000. Nissan offered a prorated warranty extension of up to 10 yrs/90,000 miles (mine is a 2007 with 88934 so not covered) but only covering a small portion of the cost to replace the transmission. Nissan should be punished for failing to warn owners they could have avoided the transmission failure. A manufacture should have a duty to warn consumers in this case. This could cause a safety issue if the failure occurred in a critical situation. In my case the transmission failed when the vehicle was moving on state highway 460 near narrows, virginia.

5 Radiator problem

Failure Date: 09/23/2017

Transmission fluid in the radiator !!itonly has 75 thousand miles original only one owner dealers told me it would be 6,000 dollars plus to fix ,please help.

6 Radiator problem

Failure Date: 06/29/2017

When driving my 2007 Nissan Frontier with a 191000 miles and truck starts to slow down, it would down shift rough. Made appt for next day with mechanic. It still being the same day I drove my son to the park and came to a stop , truck down shift was rough again and service engine soon light came on, pushed on gas and truck felt like it lost power. Got to park a block away, turned truck off and it never started again. Towed to a mechanic . $1100 later, mechanic says tow it to the Nissan dealer for a diagnostic because the modular inside the transmission is not working and they can tell what's wrong. I get it towed to Nissan dealer for $90 and $450(3hrs of labor to diagnose truck) later, Nissan said radiator fluid cross contaminated with transmission and ruined it. Also found transmission fluid and engine oil in radiator. So the radiator and transmission needs to be replaced for $6800. Nissan dealer sends me service coupons, flyers to trade the Frontier for newer a model to my house. They also text and call. In 2012 they settled to extend power train warranty because of this problem. Why wasn't I informed of preventative maintence on a known defect.

7 Radiator problem

Failure Date: 05/08/2017

I own a 2007 Nissan Frontier le crew cab 4x4 and I have owned since it has had 72,000 miles on it. Last Monday while driving to work my truck shut off in the middle of hwy 53 and locked up the steering and almost took my life. Due to the fact Nissan has ignored their radiators are faulty leaking into the transmission, I am left with my truck sitting in the yard. I am a 22 year old male with 2 jobs and a full time student without a way to continue to purse my dream of becoming a physical therapist.

8 Radiator problem

Failure Date: 02/15/2017

Nissan recognized leak in radiator, leading to corrosion in transmission resulting in clunking shifting with automatic transmission, until transmission cannot shift by itself. Secret warranty bulletin put out but only to Nissan service centres and not shared with vehicles owners until to late for most. If they recalled or fixed the radiator, would not now need a new transmission repair for ~$7000. Truck will no longer go up hills unless one shifts as if it were manual.

9 Radiator problem

Failure Date: 11/18/2016

While in the freeway, speed slowed down to 25 mph. Got out of the freeway and opened hood. Found out radiator coolant low and some white stuff I could see. Right then it came to my mind that I have the Nissan famous radiator coolant leaking into transmission and would not think it would happen to my truck at 38000 miles. Transmission had milky like fluid. Why is there no safety recall when so many cars are affected that put a lot of people on danger. Instead I got the extended warranty of radiator. The dealer could have replaced the radiator 5 years ago. Nissan is aware of the problem for years.

10 Radiator problem

Failure Date: 09/16/2016

The contact owns a 2007 Nissan Frontier. After stopping at a stop sign or red light, the vehicle hesitated to respond when the accelerator pedal was depressed. The instrument panel gauges illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the valve body needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired on two separate occasions, but the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the radiator and transmission fluid mixed together. The radiator and transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 108,000.

11 Radiator problem

Failure Date: 09/02/2016

The contact owns a 2007 Nissan Frontier. While attempting to start the vehicle, it failed to start. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the radiator was leaking into the transmission. The vehicle was then towed to an authorized dealer where it was confirmed that the radiator was the cause of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 102,000. The VIN was not available.

12 Radiator problem

Failure Date: 07/18/2016

My truck stopped in the middle of the freeway and when it was taken tothe mechanic it was collant in the transmission. Not onky do ineed to replace the transmission but also the radiator. There wereno signs of this issue or any warnings.

13 Radiator problem

Failure Date: 05/09/2016

When entering hwy 17 (70 mph speed limit) I pressed the gas pedal to the floor to enter oncoming traffic. Instead of increasing speed the truck stalled. I pulled onto the right side emergency lane in order to prevent traffic from running over my vehicle. I placed the transmission in park and it seemed to smooth out . Motor was running with excess rpm's and transmission was slipping. This was a near accident. I could hear cars behind placing on brakes and blowing horn. When returning home was told by Nissan dealership radiator cooler and transmission had to be replaced due to faulty lines. Nissan should have recalled this problem.

14 Radiator problem

Failure Date: 05/09/2016

Entering 4 lane highway with 70 mph traffic. Kicked Frontier into passing gear to enter ongoing traffic. Frontier stalled and slowed instead of increasing speed. Transmission slippage and jerking caused motor to increase rpms. I had to move my truck over to right of paved lane and onto pulloff area in order to prevent accident. I was told at the Nissan dealership that I had transmission damage due to radiator fluid leaking into transmission . It cost me $2500 to repair a problem that could have cost lives. I understand this was a problem that was not recalled by Nissan.

15 Radiator problem

Failure Date: 05/05/2016

The contact owns a 2007 Nissan Frontier. While the vehicle was being serviced for an oil change, the contact was informed of a leak in the radiator. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the radiator was defective and was leaking fluid into the transmission. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was approximately 109,000.

16 Radiator problem

Failure Date: 02/29/2016

Transmission failed due to coolant intermixing with transmission fluid. This is the second time this vehicle has had catastrophic transmission failure due to a crack in the cooling system. First time was just over the warranty so I was forced to pay a $2500 copay. The vihicle started showing signs of a secondary failure just prior to 100000 miles and when I brought it to the dealer they lied to me and said there was just residual oil in the radiator from the first failure. . . Now I am past any warranty copay and the transmission is failing at just 100500 miles. That is just two years (less than 18000 miles) after they replaced the radiator and transmission. This is unacceptable that consumers are being forced to pay for a known issue of poor engineering especially when it was supposedly fixed by the dealer with Nissan parts. They have obviously not fixed the problem but just replaced with another defective part. On top of that they denied there was a problem to so I would continue to drive the vehicle until it was past the extended warranty (from 2012 class action lawsuit). While there was no accident in either indecent there was a near collision the first time as I was in the middle of a busy intersection and the second there was traffic behind me that had to avoid rear-ending me as the vehicle stopped, this is a dangerous defect that could result in injury or death.

17 Radiator problem

Failure Date: 02/14/2016

The contact owns a 2007 Nissan Frontier. While driving 30 mph, there was an odor emitted into the vents and the contact noticed smoke under the hood. The contact coasted over to the side of the road and noticed oil and antifreeze fluid spilling from the reserve tank onto the transmission. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the spill caused the transmission and radiator to fail. Both the radiator and transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The VIN was unknown. The approximate failure mileage was 94,000.

18 Radiator problem

Failure Date: 02/02/2016

About 3 weeks ago my truck was not shifting correctly I take to the dealer and they found a code p0717 for a turbine revolution sensor. They found there to be water being pumped into the transmission. Apparently the radiator leaks water into the transmission.

19 Radiator problem

Failure Date: 09/19/2015

Tl- the contact owns a 2007 Nissan Frontier. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds the vehicle would hesitate to shift gears. After examining the vehicle the contact discovered that transmission fluid was present in the radiator coolant. The cause of the failure was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The VIN was not available. The failure mileage was 80,000. Jft.

20 Radiator problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2015

The radiator fluid leaked into the transmission and ruined the transmission. I understand that this is a known problem by Nissan and they never notified us. If we had been told about the problem before the radiator leak we would have fixed it and would never have had to replace the transmission. We contacted Nissan consumer affairs and they refused to help pay for this so we were stuck with paying over $5000 for a new transmission.

21 Radiator problem

Failure Date: 05/05/2015

Nissan Frontier has been jerking sporadically for a month driving locally at different speeds city or highway. I assumed it was cheap fuel and a needed tune up. I decided to take the truck in for a diagnostic test at firestone and they were unable to determine the cause or issue of the jerking. Requested diagrams of the engine was unreadable and no help. Firestone recommended I take it to the Nissan dealer. I took the truck to the Nissan dealer and they quoted a $5000 plus repair bill. This seem out of the ordinary for simple jerking and no other symptoms. In addition they had noted on the diagnostic and repair bill some other repairs that obvious needed fixing as good condition. Immediately I knew that the diagnostic test performed was false- the mechanic did not diagnose/test my vehicle correctly and the repair quoted was due to an issue they new about from the start. That's when I started doing online research to see if there were any recalls are problems going on with the Nissan Frontier. My guess was correct. Nissan is aware of this fault regarding the transmission and subsequent issue of the radiator. Nissan dealers are then charging customers to fix an issue that will re-appear. Customers should have some recourse other than spend thousands of dollars on product defect and that recourse should be a recall of these defective vehicles to be repaired. Where is the fairness and why does someone have to die or be seriously injured to prove this is a known defect in the product, Nissan knows its a defect.

22 Radiator problem

Failure Date: 04/23/2015

Transmission was slipping bad, and the coolant was looking brownish red. Transmission fluid was in the radiator and through out both the engine and transmission. When I took it to the dealership to get check-out they said my warranty had expired and that this wouldn't be covered. Would need to replace radiator and transmission. . . . Costing me $ 2,731. 25. Although this is a known fact that Nissan is having a good amount of problems with various Nissan model including my Nissan Frontier. Very unhappy Nissan customer of many years. . . . . Now I'm starting to have timing belt issues which falls under another Nissan Frontier problem. Will have to get fixed at my own expense. My dealership know these things but are not open about these fact. I take my Frontier in for maintenance nothing ever said and never seem to get recall notices either. . . .

23 Radiator problem

Failure Date: 04/01/2015

Radiator repaired as leakage from crack causes transmission to go bad , known by Nissan according to service dept.

24 Radiator problem

Failure Date: 03/11/2015

Truck would not start. Towed to auto garage. Told radiator has a defective coolest line that runs thru transmission. This caused cross contamination of radiator fluid and transmission fluid, causing breakdown of transmission and radiator. Found out online that this happens with three types of Nissan vehicles made between 2005 and 2010. Nissan will only cover if under 100,000 miles but I have to pay first 3000 on a fix averaging 3800 to 4000. I was never notified of any problems by Nissan. They knew their was a problem and I believe that are stalling and covering this problem. They should be 100% responsible for this liability. Car company's paid for all types of recall for their design flaws, what is the difference here other than the amount needed to do what is right.

25 Radiator problem

Failure Date: 12/17/2014

Tl- the contact owns 2007 Nissan Frontier. The contact stated that during a routine oil change, the technician informed that the transmission and radiator needed to be flushed and replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 109,500. Djr.

26 Radiator problem

Failure Date: 12/17/2014

I took my vehicle in for service 12-17-14, since the heater was not working properly and just found out the that radiator cracked and leaked radiator fluid into the transmission, possibly contaminating the transmission. They are replacing the radiator and flushing the transmission a few times to try to salvage the transmission. They informed me of a recall on this problem but I'm past the permitted mileage. I bought the vehicle used in 2012. The service dealer said the recall included a new radiator and transmission for $3800 but that the deductible was $3000??? this is a serious design flaw that should be fully covered and fixed by Nissan!.

27 Radiator problem

Failure Date: 12/10/2014

I first began noticing a problem with my 2007 Nissan Frontier when the heater was having trouble heating up the cab as I was driving. At first the problem was intermittent and the heater would warm up for a while and then get cold again. Shortly after that I began to notice a vibration or shuddering at higher speeds as if I was hitting a rumble strip. I began doing some research on the internet and found that this is a very common problem with several Nissan models between 2005 and 2010. I took the truck to the local dealership and they knew immediately what the problem was and what was needed to repair it. The radiator develops a crack that leaks into the transmission and starts tearing up the internals of the transmission. The dealership recommended replacement of both the radiator and the transmission. The cost to do this repair was about $5,100. 00. The cost was not covered in the Nissan extended warranty because the truck had over 100,000 miles. I am extremely frustrated that Nissan does not stand behind their vehicles. I did not receive any notice from Nissan that there was an engineering defect in their cars.

28 Radiator problem

Failure Date: 12/02/2014

My truck was diagnosed with a timing chain issue due to a whining from the engine. If timing chain fails the engine will lose power puttig people at risk. Nissan has known about the issue since TSB # 07-042 issued July 17 2007. I purchased in oct 2007 had I had this information available to me I would have made a different decision. In April 17 2009 another TSB was issued #07-042a, on December 14 2009 another TSB #07-042c. Sometime between 2006-2007 the primary timing chain tensioner was redesigned. So Nissan was well aware there was an issue. The service department never mentioned this issue untill I was out of warranty leaving me on the hook for repairs. The timing chain should last the life of the motor . Please open an investigation on this matter. Nissan did not do anything for their customers about the radiator transmission cross contamination until a class action suit was brought against them and they lost. There is a class action suit in process in California for the timing chain issue. Any one who has whining buzzing in the engine in their Nissan from 2004-2007 with the v-6 q40 should file a complaint as well.

29 Radiator problem

Failure Date: 03/20/2014

Transmission started to rumble when shifting to overdrive. Looked into the issue and heard about the cross contamination issue. Looked for symptoms and found that water had gotten into the transmission and flud in my radiator. I have spend hundreds on flushing them out and bypassing the radiator. Transmission is still rumbling. The extended warranty does me no good, for I am over the covered milage limit. Greg cordova.

30 Radiator problem

Failure Date: 02/07/2014

The transmission had been shuttering and slipping for a couple of months. It was getting worse so I took it to kings transmission on 3-13-14 to have it looked at. They discovered water in the fluid and informed me that this model of vehicle had a wide spread problem with the radiator failing and leaking coolant into the transmission cooling lines. The truck is now at a Nissan dealer getting a new transmission and radiator.

31 Radiator problem

Failure Date: 12/26/2013

I was driving my truck when it began to slip at round 45 mph. The shifting then became very hard. I looked on-line and saw websites discussing transmission/radiator problems. I opened my radiator and saw it was very milky in color. Took it in to the dealership and told that I needed a new radiator and transmission because of a known problem.

32 Radiator problem

Failure Date: 12/18/2013

My 2007 Nissan Frontier developed shuddering in the transmission. It has received all regular service at 3,000 mile intervals. Today I was told that the transmission is contaminated with radiator coolant due to failure of the radiator and will cost $6200. 00 I note innumerable examples of radiator failures with catastrophic transmission failure in the public forums and Nissan agreed to a class-action settlement up to 100,000 miles with a $2500 deductible. Most vehicles are over 100,000 miles. This is a known defect which should be subject to a vehicle recall.

33 Radiator problem

Failure Date: 10/17/2013

Our truck overheated on 10/17/13. The garage informed us the internal radiator had busted and had leaked antifreeze into the transmission and transmission fluid into the radiator. According to the mechanic it had been this way for awhile. There was nothing to indicate there was a problem this major. Nissan could not explain how this could have happened nor why only that if we give them 2500 they will replace the radiator and the transmission. This radiator and transmission are both factory installed. I think this is a definite safety issue as this will cause the engine to overheat and the transmission to go out and leave you stranded. This is a very costly repair that most people cannot undertake. So far we have paid $300 for a "band-aid" fix until we can find a way to resolve this issue. This is a definite problem with the Frontier 4. 0l and it's only fair to say there is something wrong with the factory radiators.

34 Radiator problem

Failure Date: 10/09/2013

Diagnosed as a failed transmission cooler which allows coolant to mix with the transmission fluid, causing internal damage to the components. There was no warning prior to this catastrophic event - it just all of a sudden happened. The entire transmission and radiator had to be replaced at a cost of $7,000 - Nissan did not cover $3,000 of this as they said it was a "deductible" - how can you have a deductible on a design flaw?.

35 Radiator problem

Failure Date: 10/05/2013

The engine overheated. When I lifted the hood I noticed a cream colored substance coming out of coolant reservoir. Had the truck towed to Nissan dealer. After diagnosis was told the transmission fluid and the coolant fluid got mixed together. Apparently this has happen before on 2007 Nissan Frontier engines. Dealer said I needed to have the transmission and the radiator replaced at a cost of $7,000 of which they told me Nissan would pay $4,000. My complaint is that Nissan knew this was a problem with apparently no way to keep it from happening. I feel Nissan should be responsible for the total bill.
