36 Radiator problem

Failure Date: 08/23/2013

I was driving when my vehicle suddenly lost speed and would not accelerate when I pressed the gas. It eventually stopped, and would not start back. The following day, I had it towed to a reputable repair shop, where I was told that I needed a new transmission and a new radiator, which would cost me more than $6000. 00. They explained that there was a crack in the radiator, that caused the transmission fluid to mix with the coolant. This fluid mixture ruined both the transmission and the radiator. Believing this was an absurd occurrence, I looked online, and learnt this was a common defect for Nissan exterra, Frontier and pathfinders from 2005-2010. I called the Nissan toll free number and explained my situation. I was given a case number - 11982851 - and was told I needed to get the vehicle diagnosed at a Nissan dealer. I paid a second towing fee and got the vehicle to the nearest Nissan dealer, where the diagnosis was confirmed. I called back the Nissan toll free number, and was told that because my vehicle was over 100 k miles, they would do nothing to help me. I asked to talk to a supervisor, and was told none was available, but one would call me within 4-8 hours. That time has expired, and I have called back three times, but still have not been able to talk to a supervisor. Frustrating to have bought a Nissan vehicle right off the freight truck, brand new, and having to change out the transmission so soon, especially knowing the manufacturers were aware of the defect. Also, I was not given any warning, and was just driving along, and had a failure that could have caused a serious accident.

37 Radiator problem

Failure Date: 06/05/2013

I was driving my truck on a two lane road at approximately 40 mph when the truck started to shake and shutter and would not shift properly. I was almost rear ended on a bend in the road because of the reduced speed I had to drive to keep the truck from shaking. I have researched my Nissan Frontier's transmission issue and it appears to be a cross contamination issue where the transmission cooler leaks allowing transmission fluid and radiator coolant to mix causing damage to the transmission. I have not driven the truck since the incident for fear of a total transmission failure which has happend to other Nissan Frontier owners causing them to be standed on the roadway. Nissan seems to not want to recall the trucks for the cross contamination issue which I feel puts peoples lives in danger.

38 Radiator problem

Failure Date: 05/18/2013

After reading about previous complaints online and an investigation performed by NHTSA I think the transmission is leaking fluid into the radiator. What was the conclusion of your investigation?.

39 Radiator problem

Failure Date: 05/04/2013

As I was parked at a service station, I put my truck into reverse and it was the same as neutral and never engaged. This is a very common, but not necessary, issue with the transmission on the Nissan Frontier. I almost blew up my engine last year when the radiator cracked and allowed transmission fluid to mix with the coolant and caused the temperature gauge to go way up. This mixture made its way to the transmission and has caused irreparable damage; undoubtedly, this is why I no longer have reverse. I replaced the radiator and flushed my transmission fluid three times last year and thought I may have fixed the problem. Evidentially, the damage had already been done. This problem is very well known to Nissan and, as a Nissan Frontier owner, I was never notified regarding this possible issue. I understand that Nissan has agreed to settle with owners within a certain mileage range; however, my truck is only 5. 5 years old and exceeds the mileage requirement because my occupation requires alot of highway time which has put alot of miles on it. I feel Nissan needs to step up and take care of this problem with all owners of these vehicles before someone gets hurt or killed if it hasn't happened already. My truck is now rendered useless until I pay thousands of dollars to fix it. This should not be my problem at all!!.

40 Radiator problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2013

Vehicle began running poorly and studdering between gear shifts. Knew about the potential for the transmission and radiator fluid to mix and destroy the engine from the lawsuit that was filed and correspondence we had recieved from Nissan. Sure enough, took the vehicle to a Nissan dealer and an independant car shop and both diagnosed the same thing - radiator and transmission fluids mixing. No option but to get it reparied for a whopping $4,409. 26. It is disgraceful that Nissan will not formally acknowledge this defect and pay for the repair bill no matter what your mileage. This was our first and last Nissan.

41 Radiator problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2013

The contact owns a 2007 Nissan Frontier. The contact stated that the radiator was cracked and allowed coolant to enter the transmission. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that the transmission and radiator would possibly require replacement but first, a diagnostic was required. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure and current mileage was 101,000.

42 Radiator problem

Failure Date: 01/14/2013

The car was brought in for fluid changes since the car was nearly at the 100,000 mile mark. They explained the radiator had failed and caused the transmission to be contaminated. This car was brought in several times over the years and they never disclosed that this known problem can ruin a transmission. I paid 3000. 00 to have the car fixed because I was in the 80-100,000 k mile range. This class action settlement is a bad deal for Nissan consumers. We should have been notified that that this could happen. I would have gladly paid 600. 00 to have the radiator replaced. Its a good thing this happened while at the dealership. I understand that many people have been stranded. Nissan knows this and fails to tell its customers. This is unsafe, and I think it should be a full recall.

43 Radiator problem

Failure Date: 12/03/2012

As I am driving, the transmission will not shift at 40 mph. I pull over and find out that it will not go into reverse, either. I drive over to the Nissan dealership and find out that the part of the radiator that connects to the tranny has cracked and dumped all of the radiator fluid into the tranny, killing it. I need a new radiator and transmission. Nissan is covering the costs (for repairs but not alternate transportation for the week that it is taking to fix this) but upon returning home and looking online, I found out that Nissan has known about this problem for about 5 years and instead of doing a recall (costing lots of money), they extended the warranty on the radiator assembly from 3 years/36,000 miles to 8 years/96,000 miles hoping that problems will occur after that time and then they are off the hook for repairs. How dangerous could this have been under different circumstances. I am angry and disgusted with the way Nissan has handled a problem they know could have caused a serious safety risk.

44 Radiator problem

Failure Date: 10/02/2012

Nissan Frontier; truck pick up an vibration that turn into alot of jerking. T alk to the dealer about it,they said to check trans fluid to see if it had a strawberry color to it. If so the radiators was probably cracked and that coolant seep into the trans causing server trans failure. Have no warrenty. Computer in trans is damage. Now valve body got to be replace with computer board along with all new clutches and radiator going to cost around 5 grand to fix.

45 Radiator problem

Failure Date: 07/19/2012

Known issues with faulty radiators is causing it to fail and mix antifreeze into the transmission causing the transmission to fail. . The result is a ~$9200 bill from your dealership for a new transmission and radiator. . Nissan absolutely refused to take ownership of this issue making me the owner of my 4th Nissan truck to pay. .

46 Radiator problem

Failure Date: 07/06/2012

On July 2011 had to pay for new transmission for my truck after the radiator leaked in to the transmission, talked with Nissan and tried to get them to stand behind it and they said they would have if the truck was, in side the new warranty they had put out but I was at 91611. They know what is wrong and how to fix this. They have to put the transmission cooler on the out side of the radiator about $ 200. 00 fix. This replace cost, me more than $ 6000. 00 to get fixed. Now at 97980 miles we are back at the shop having the same thing, done over again, this time they are covering after I had to have a out side tech come in and prove that this was happening again. The first said it had to be replaced and then they had another one check it and said I was hearing the tires and the transmission was good. I would not pick up my truck because the 12 month warranty was about to run out on July 26 2012 . After the out side tec checked it out and said the transmission had coolant mixed with it they ordered every thing new again. . . Should not have had to pay for the first one. .

47 Radiator problem

Failure Date: 04/19/2012

I had been noticing my automatic truck shutter before thumping into gear months before I actually took the truck into the Nissan dealers shop for analysis. When they inspected, I was told my transmission had been damage due to contamination by engine coolant and I would need a new transmission. The source of the contamination is a cracked atf line that runs through an engine coolant chamber in the radiator. This defective part and design came directly from the Nissan factory. Nissan knew about the defect and failed to notify the consumer or replace the failed transmissions @ no cost. Please advise of any recalls and results from the investigation.

48 Radiator problem

Failure Date: 02/29/2012

About 2 weeks ago I started to feel as if the truck was not shifting correctly, soon after that the check engine light came on and I brought it right in to our regular service station. A diagnostic check revealed code p0717 for a turbine revolution sensor and I was told to take it to the dealer. The Nissan dealer did their own diagnostic (no test drive) and found it to be a bad value body, as well as bad timing chain and tensioners, and replacement of all 6 coil packs, along with a few other general findings gave me an estimate of nearly 5 thousand dollars. The 2 diagnostic checks have cost me close to $250. I was in shock and did not have the ability to pay for the repairs up front, so I took the truck to 2 other service stations, one being aamco who specializes in transmissions. None of the 3 other stations found any other issues aside from the transmission. Aamco after a test drive and diagnostic check determined there was an issue but would need to remove the transmission to determine the extent of the problem. Aamco found there to be water being pumped into the transmission, and also claimed it was the 3 problem of this type they had seen so far this month. Apparently the radiator leaks water into the transmission. The fix is a rebuilt transmission and separate cooler for the transmission to assure this won't happen again. At a cost of 3200 to me! this particular aamco is across from the dealer and claims that have done work for the dealership to fix the same problem! I also received a letter back in oct. /Nov. Indicating a possible radiator problem and an offer of an extended warranty. Nothing was mentioned of the damage that could occur to the transmission! I feel cheated, and in my research have found this to be a very common problem. Nissan should stand by their product and do the right thing by their customers!.

49 Radiator problem

Failure Date: 12/15/2010

Nissan radiator/transmission cooler needs to be replaced at a cost of $3,000 for vehicles up to 100,000 after a class action suit was done. Nissan is acknowledging the problem and I feel this should be cause of a recall and that Nissan should pay the full cost to replace. This cost represent 1/2 of the kelly blue book value on the vehicle. The vehicle is non-operable. The cost also represents about 15% of what the vehicle was originally purchased for. After speaking with Nissan consumers affairs, they say there is nothing else to but to contact you to try to change it to a full recall.
