1 Automatic Transmission Torque Converter problem of the 2011 Nissan Frontier

I was driving my truck as normal when I heard a chatter from the gear shift. . I lost all power in the low gears and it would take 45 seconds to get to 60 mph. I drove it a short way like that and the check engine light came on. I parked my truck for a few hours an when I went to drive it back home the problem seemed to be fixed and was driving normal. I started my drive home and after 50 miles I could smell something burning so I started to get over to the side of the road. At that point I lost all power and the truck was dead. It would not start and I had to call for a tow truck to get my family and I home. I was watching the temperature and oil pressure gauges on the dash and they were normal so it was a surprise to me when I took it to the mechanic and he told me the problem happened because the lower part of the radiator that cools the transmission cracked leaking radiator fluid into the transmission. This caused all the parts to swell up causing the computer to burn up, sensors to fail. I spent over $4000 on parts and labor to get this fixed. That included a rebuild kit, band,piston, exchange rebuilt torque converter, new valve assembly, radiator, radiator cap, front pump bushing, crank sensor,revolution sensor, and all the labor. There were known issues of this exact problem and earlier models up to 2010. There was a class action lawsuit about it. Well the problem is still there on the 2011 model. I should be reimbursed for all my cost since Nissan knew about this issue and still made a inferior product the following year. They did nothing to address this engineering flaw even though they had complete knowledge of the problem. This could of been avoided by having a separate transmission cooler . Nissan was negligent for letting this design go to market when they already knew it was an issue. It should of been resolved on the 2011 but it wasn't,.

2 Automatic Transmission Torque Converter problem of the 2007 Nissan Frontier

Failure Date: 12/31/2015

The problem began as "shudder" resembling what is felt when the car moves onto the "rumble strip" near the shoulder of the road. This occurred while traveling at lower rpms (1500 - 2000) at average highway speeds in 5th gear (55 - 65 mph). Since the vehicle is primarily driven in town at lower speeds, the "shudder" occurred rarely and was not initially identified as a problem. Over the course of several months, the problem began occurring more frequently and at lower speeds, but always at lower rpms (1500 to 2000) and in all gears. As the shudder worsened, the vehicle also began to shift more roughly, often jarring as it moved from one gear to the next. (this occurs at all gear changes. ). The vehicle is now "slipping" quite badly as it moves from 4th to 5th gear. The vehicle was taken to a mechanic who diagnosed torque converter problems and possible transmission failure. The mechanic has recommended replacement of the transmission. It appears there may have been a valve body failure in the transmission and cross-contamination of the coolant and transmission fluid.

3 Automatic Transmission Torque Converter problem of the 2006 Nissan Frontier

My vehicle shuddered and felt to slip out of gear while driving! because of this known issue of leaking coolant causes transmission failure. I bought this Frontier with very low miles and was never told of this potential issue from the dealership. It should be a safety recall as it prevents the vehicle from accelerating and if you are driving can cause an accident. I am now reading that Nissan owners have no idea this is happening until too late. Once the coolant is mixed with the transmission fluid this lethal combination kills the valves, seals and torque converter -- rendering your entire transmission useless. I read that this issue is currently contained to the 2005—2010 model years. I have a 2006 with 64k miles! it is only time until this issue causes multiple accidents since this issue happens while cars are driving. Please push Nissan for a recall. I should not have to pay for a known engineering / manufacturing defect.

4 Automatic Transmission Torque Converter problem of the 2005 Nissan Frontier

Failure Date: 07/14/2014

The contact owns a 2005 Nissan Frontier. While driving approximately 50 mph, there was an abnormal noise coming from the vehicle. The vehicle failed to accelerate and the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the transmission, the torque converter, and the radiator needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the timing change needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 93,000.

I noticed as I was driving vehicle started to have shaking or vibrating/jerking ( at different speeds), it seems to hesitate when I increase speed. My technician thinks something is going on with transmission or torque converter. Concerned vehicle may break / stop running.

Transmission failed due to radiator leakage into transmission fluid. Just out of warranty! Nissan claims powertrain warranty will not cover since it is a radiator problem which causes the failure. ----- leaking coolant causes transmission failure an alarming number of Nissan xterra, pathfinder and Frontier owners are stepping forward with stories about how cracked radiators are causing coolant to leak into the transmission. Once mixed with the transmission fluid this lethal combination kills the valves, seals and torque converter -- rendering your entire transmission useless. This issue is currently contained to the 2005¿2010 model years. Some articles online claim that being aware of the proper warning signs may help prevent your Nissan from needing a rebuilt transmission. These warning signs are: heavy vibration while shifting heavy vibration while accelerating abrupt stalling shuddering noises car doesn't warm up when sitting owners who have had their radiator crack are claiming that even if you catch it early, your transmission is still doomed trouble due to this engineering / manufacturing defect. Com for the three Nissan models that are showing the defect: pathfinder: 2007, 2006, 2005 xterra: 2005, 2006, 2007 Frontier: 2005. 2006, 2007 perhaps even more troubling is owners who have already had their transmissions "repaired" by an authorized Nissan dealer are still reporting catastrophic transmission failure. Through no fault of their own, Nissan owners who are out of warranty are left to cover the hefty repair bill, which can be over $4,500 when all is said and done.

7 Automatic Transmission Torque Converter problem of the 2004 Nissan Frontier

Failure Date: 07/01/2011

Noticed transmission fluid was slowly leaking and covering the bottom pan. Mechanic looked at it and found a crack in the housing of the transmission near the top. My certified mechanic had never seen this before. The transmission and torque converter now needs to be replaced and the "core" cannot be sent back for any credit. Total cost so far is approx. $2,800. The transmission housing has no external damage that would have caused this crack to the housing. Consumer sent an updated portable to correct the VIN. Updated 07/08/11.

Failure Date: 09/30/2002

Check engine light on, dealer says I need a new transmission. (this truck has been to the dealer many times to have a "chassis" noise checked out with "no probem found" by the dealer. ).
