Nissan Frontier owners have reported 5 problems related to clutch pedal/linkage (under the power train category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Nissan Frontier based on all problems reported for the Frontier.
The 2012 Nissan Frontier has a rubber grommet on the clutch pedal which triggers saftey switch. The grommet goes bad and the vehicle will not start. Cannot be jumped. Must be towd or fixed on the spot. These grommetts go bad in 15,000 miles and it cost 15. 00 for a new one. You cannot maintain a piece of rubber on te clutch. Rediculous.

Took my truck to peltier in tyler for an ecm relay recall. Mechanic looked at truck and found that the radiator transmission cooler was leaking anti-freeze into my transmission. Was told to replace radiator immediately and flush transmission. Did this however transmission went into limp mode and progressively got worse. A mechanic replaced the valve body which cost over $1000 for the part alone and checked the clutch packs in the transmission. Clutch packs checked okay however the mechanic could not guarantee that the torque converter was okay. Vehicle seemed to drive okay after the repair. Now the torque converter seems to be going out and the vehicle will go into the limp mode. I have to disconnect the battery to reset the code and it will drive okay for about 10 miles and the service engine light goes on. When this happens the vehicle goes into the limp mode. My mechanic told me that he thinks the torque converter is shot and will have to be replaced. Update as of 07/192011 - mechanic replaced my torque converter and rebuilt transmission. The old torque converter came apart and after pulling the transmission, he saw a lot of metallic shavings on the screen on the valve body. While driving to work on 07/22/2011, I was driving around 70 mph with the cruise control on. All of a sudden my rpm gauge redlined and my transmission went into neutral. I immediately released the cruise control by tapping the brake pedal. With no shoulder on the road at my location, an 18 wheeler was quickly coming up on my rear. I put my flashers on and was able to coast to an exit. The 18 wheeler came within inches hitting my rear end. Now my Frontier is in dunn's transmission shop in tyler, TX to be repaired. As of this writing, the problem has not been diagnosed but I am sure the problem will be in the valve body since something caused the transmission to go into neutral. Probably some metallic material got inside something in the valve body which was replaced in March 2011.

Clutch failure 2009 Nissan Frontier se 4. 0l 6 speed man trans, crew cab 4x4. VIN [xxx]. 10,300 miles clutch failed, flywheel distortion cause catastrophic disc and pressure plate failure. Repair faulkner Nissan, jenkingtown, PA USA. Return clutch pedal zero resistance down pedal. Returned to dealer was told normal, miles now 11,200 clutch catastrophic failure, slave cylinder now failed (leaking). System inherent design flaw. Brake master cylinder and clutch system share same fluid reservoir. Poss brake failure may result. I am a retired gm master mechanic, I posses more skills on car and trucks then most. This system really requires redesign poss convert to linkage clutch throw-out bearing system and a more heavy duty flywheel (not dual mass) and more like a stage ll or stage lll competition clutch configuration. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

Purchased vehicle new with 6spd manual transmission. At roughly 4k miles an intermittent noise was noticed and perceived to be coming from the dash cluster. At 7. 8k miles truck was serviced as noise became more prevalent. Dealer made repairs to dash cluster by inspecting and sound proofing area. At 9k miles noise had returned and was sent to a different dealer. They too troubleshoot and insulated the cluster. Noise continued off and on until a return to the dealer for repairs at 14. 5k miles. Dealer at this time couldn't replicate issue. After owner of truck performed their own extensive online research the determined the noise to be coming from the clutch and transferring to the pedal on the drivers side. Driver returned to dealer with new description of problem and suggesting of throw out bearing inspection. Upon inspection dealership said that there was abnormal amount of clutch material on top of throwout bearing and was from the driver's driving habit. They want $1000 just to drop transmission and inspect clutch then more $ to replace clutch. From researching online, this is a common problem for Nissan 6spd transmission on the 05+ Frontiers and xterras. Nissan won't warrant the item because it is considered a "wear" item. Many consumer have noticed the noise from the day they purchased vehicle and others have had complete clutch failure at less than 15k, sometimes as little as 5k miles. How, other than factory defect, could this happen? noise was noticed at 4k miles originally. Owner is concerned for safety where if the transmission/clutch fails under certain circumstances the vehicle will be rendered useless putting the driving into harms way. I. E. Train tracks, oncoming traffic, emergency vehicles. The problem could leave the driver defenseless and unable to maneuver out of deadly situation.
